July 9, 20231 yr I think 2 hearts is alot more divisive as a single than what kind of fool. This! I don’t dislike it I just hate that it was the lead single - should have been single 3 or 4 if at all.
July 9, 20231 yr Ya if it wasn't a lead single I'd think differently about it but for me it will always be the song that should have been a good album track.
July 9, 20231 yr Author I think 2 hearts is alot more divisive as a single than what kind of fool. Interesting. I thought universally most Kylie fans liked (or didn’t mind ) the song but didn’t feel it was an appropriate choice for 1st single. I don’t recall too many Kylie fans going “wow they made the right choice making this the 1st Single”
July 9, 20231 yr Ya as a song its not hated its more the decision to make it the lead single is the issue.
July 9, 20231 yr I do quite like What Kind of Fool! I think it deserved to be better than it did, low Top 10 at least. Although I "wasn't there" to experience it when it was released (I was 4 at the time, not paying any attention to music) so I can't really think of it from the perspective of how it came across in 1992. I think it sits comfortably within the PWL era singles, and dare I say I prefer it to at least some of the much bigger singles from the first four eras. :kink: I saw a clip on Twitter at some point, it was of Kylie promoting the single on CBBC, and she couldn't hide how unenthused she was about the song. I wonder if she's softened to it at all. I remember it seeming surprising that it actually made it onto the original 2CD version of Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection.
July 9, 20231 yr Is this the interview Jay? D-uU_qgjVfQ Lmao you can see her stopping herself from saying she hated it. There was a small acapella clip from the Anti Tour, think it could have been an audience request. Didn’t seem like anyone, even Kylie, could get the lyrics in the right order or even know what they were!
July 10, 20231 yr Bless her - she was so over it at that point, she had signed to Deconstruction so was just finishing her PWL commitments. Imagine having ideas fro KM94 etc and having to promo WKOF and Celebration
July 10, 20231 yr I remember it seeming surprising that it actually made it onto the original 2CD version of Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection. Yeah I forgot it was included on 'Step Back in Time'! That was most surprising, especially over 'Did It Again' which is perhaps the most memorable from 'Impossible Princess' and generally more liked than 'What Kind of Fool'.
July 10, 20231 yr Maybe what kind of fool is a osng she may like more now than she did back then, i think as the years went on Kylie grew to appreciate some of the pwl material more and more.
July 18, 20231 yr Just noticed 'What Kind of Fool' (and 'Finer Feelings') both appear on NOW Yearbook Extra 1992! https://www.amazon.co.uk/NOW-Yearbook-Extra...5-3029204?psc=1 Kylie had a double appearance on the standard NOW Yearbook 1992 too with 'Give Me Just a Little More Time' and 'Celebration'.
July 18, 20231 yr I wouldn't call this divisive at all. Yes it was a step backwards when compared to the material from her last 2 albums before this, but its still okay, a harmless piece of pop fluff that basically felt more like a contract obligation where Kylie was done with PWL at this point & couldn't wait to move onto the next chapter of her career. This is just one of those typical 'Greatest Hits' singles & out of the 3 new songs on there, this was the best option to lead with. 'Celebration' wouldn't have done any better if released first the #20 peak felt about right for it & 'Where In The World' is a nice enough album track that again felt like a regression from Kylie's more mature offerings at the time.
