My ReviewNow That’s What I Call Music! 111 or Now 111 was a bumper 50-track edition released in the Spring of 2022. Containing 4 UK #1 singles from the time, it was the first volume to feature music from Lauren Spencer-Smith, Luude, Cat Burns and PinkPantheress.

The main omissions on this volume came from the likes of Adele, Dave, SwitchOTR, Dove Cameron, Central Cee and others. Overall though, most of the main hits of the time were included.

So far this is the only volume in the series to feature music from the cast of Encanto, ACRAZE, Belters Only, Yola, Holly Humberstone, GAYLE, The ANXIETY, Foals and a rare credited appearance from the legendary Stevie Wonder.

Artwork Rating: 3/10 Extremely Poor

What a childish cover if ever there was one, it is so comical and loud but seems to just be a mess of multiple elements including bizarre characters, stars and heart shapes, splash marks and all sorts of other things. Overall there is too much going on and it looks messy.

Disc 1 Favourite: Tiësto & Ava Max – The Motto

Not anything that special, but Tiësto was making plenty of pop friendly hits with big stars at the time, and this one stood out to me as one of his highlights.

Disc 2 Favourite: Charli XCX feat. Rina Sawayama – Beg For You

Ok, I know it is a sample of a popular hit by September, but this collaboration really hit the mark for me, and it was one of my favourites from 2022.

Disc 3 Tracklist:

(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Dave – Starlight 3:32 {1}

2. SwitchOTR feat. A1 x J1 – Coming For You 2:58 {5}

3. Adele – Oh My God 3:45 {2}

4. Jessica Darrow – Surface Pressure 3:22 {3}

5. Niall Horan & Anne-Marie – Everywhere (BBC Children In Need) 2:51 {23}

6. Em Beihold – Numb Little Bug 2:49 {25}

7. Joel Corry, David Guetta & Bryson Tiller – What Would You Do 2:54 {21}

8. Wilkinson & Issey Cross – Used To This 3:46 {33}

9. Vibe Chemistry – Balling 3:41 {35}

10. Jethro Heston feat. Max Marshall – Cut Me Loose 3:22 {63}

11. Clean Bandit feat. A7S – Everything But You 3:18 {55}

12. Elley Duhe – MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT 3:04 {43}

13. Dove Cameron – Boyfriend 2:33 {9}

14. Ruth B – Dandelions 3:54 {42}

15. Griff & Sigrid – Head On Fire 3:09 {44}

16. Sam Fender – Spit Of You 4:33 {41}

17. David Kushner – Miserable Man 3:53 {39}

18. ArrDee & Aitch – War 2:47 {6}

19. Central Cee – Retail Therapy 2:55 {21}

20. Hazey – Packs And Potions 2:41 {11}

21. Polo G – Bad Man (Smooth Criminal) 1:46 {47}

22. Liilz feat. ZieZie – Glad U Came 2:05 {15}

23. Tyga & Doja Cat – Freaky Deaky 3:35 {36}

24. Megan Thee Stallion & Dua Lipa – Sweetest Pie 3:21 {31}

25. Muni Long – Hrs And Hrs 3:24 {41}

----------

Total time: 1:19:58

Overall Rating: 5/10 Poor

It is hard to find much to talk about with this volume, I guess at the time the charts were littered with music from Encanto that many other songs struggled to get any real exposure, and that could explain the high number of DNC songs again. There are certainly a few omissions I would have chosen in favour of other songs.

My Best 5 (as of July 2023)

1. Charli XCX feat. Rina Sawayama – Beg For You

2. Swedish House Mafia & The Weeknd – Moth To A Flame

5. Kylie Minogue & Jessie Ware – Kiss Of Life

2. ArrDee – Flower (Say My Name)

A fan of the artwork a lot so voted for extremely good for that one.

Disc 1 looks stronger than Disc 2 there, Tate for first and Charli for second CD.

Good for last option!

I don’t think I’ve ever voted for Ed Sheeran in one of these before but it is genuinely my favourite on disc 1. Tears for Fears disc 2 (Charli & Rina a very close second)
Voted for Billie Eilish as my Disc 1 favourite and The Anxiety for Disc 2 - actually heard the latter on the radio today and was reminded of how much I love it.

The "DNC's" are generally stronger this time around than most of the chart hits.

Yola, Holly Humberstone, and Foals for me

Of the chart hits - either Acraze or Post Malone

I will be in the vast minority - but I can't stand the Tiesto / Ava Max collab

Looking at this track list, and having not kept up with the Now series since about 75, this looks like the worst track list of all time.
  • 2 weeks later...

Late, but I voted for We Don't Talk About Bruno and Go by Cat Burns.

I've been listening to this album tonight and was impressed to learn that Now 111 is the only compilation in the world that Bruno ever made it onto outside the actual Encanto soundtrack and a US Disney vinyl compilation. Surface Pressure has never made it onto any official compilation album outside the soundtrack.

Of course, the only downside of having the song on the album is the way the artist credit takes over the entire bottom line of the front cover, rather than just being able to start 'Encanto cast'.

Quick correction to your facts: Foals’ Wake Me Up wasn’t quite a DNC, it made #98!

Ah good spot, I’ve not tended to venture outside of the UK Top 75 when recording chart positions for these compilations so I’ll probably keep it that way for now but potentially there is a project to be had to go through all the DNC tracks from the various compilations to see if any did chart between 75-100.

I’ll certainly keep my eye out! :)

Couldn't agree more. Most of those songs I can barely remember! :lol: Voted very poor for the artwork, Ed's Shivers and The Weeknd's Sacrifice for faves and the edition being a generous 2/10. :kink:
