Posted August 12, 20231 yr Not necessarily in terms of how well it performed in the contest, or didn’t perform, but in terms of how you feel about the entry now, it’s legacy or if it became a major hit after it was confirmed in this contest. Maybe it was a song that many were introduced to here and loved ever since. It could also be a song that you were sure was going to be confirmed by many others but you were the one who confirmed it first and got to share it with the community, or a song you felt sure would be vetoed but managed to get through anyway! I’m sure we all have defining moments in BJSC where an entry we choose really stands out for us on a personal level, so what is your defining BJSC moment?
August 12, 20231 yr Alison Goldfrapp, for me, was a good last minute entry! It also got me into the top ten for the first (and probably last!) time! It also meant I was able to host which … won’t happen again ha!
August 12, 20231 yr Somnium - ‘Sinking’ 2QJiYlU-ZPY Quality-wise it is my favourite Jadakissnia entry. On top of this, it was a particularly inspired pick (such a hidden gem that it’s still not on streaming platforms 😭) that went on to connect with quite a few others as well, finishing in 2nd place with a really close gap to the winner.
August 12, 20231 yr Time but Aaj came close. Both came very high in my year-end charts but Time was my first ever top 10. Aaj enamoured the listenthrough crowd and defied the odds and I'm proud of it too!
August 12, 20231 yr I’m proud of most of my successes really, but Troll - Jimmy Dean always stands out to me when these questions are asked. My taste is quite safe, to send an 80s pop track and have it banded about as a possible shock winner, is one of the most shocked I’ve ever been this contest. I thought it’d be bottom 5 in the semi and it wound up being a resounding success of a risk that was well worth taking.

' ' maybe for somehow getting 2nd, it's a really rare beast among my metal picks that can manage to do that. ' ' because it is one of my favourites, is certainly one of my most inspired ever, and has a good fanbase despite its midtable finish, and ' ' for a completely unexpected bronze medal and leading to me hosting.
August 12, 20231 yr So far, it can only be Kohta Imafuku - Orihime. 9 gold medalists in the final were quite a lot for an unknown trance producer with less than 1k monthly listeners and a country with more NQs.
August 12, 20231 yr I think it has to be RAMelia. My last winner and the only song I’ve EVER sent to BJSC where I thought ‘this is a surefire winner’ the first time I heard it. It was run quite close in the end by FARC but I hadn’t ever heard such an emotional trance track, the way it went from ballad into trance felt like the perfect find. Also Freya Ridings’ Lost Without You. Ballads almost always tank in BJSC but this one felt special to me - I was pretty surprised it came 2nd however (with the same points as the winner) but it was completely backed up by becoming a very rare and unexpected piano ballad UK top ten hit a few months later, despite her having no industry or tastemaker hype at all at the time I sent her. So my ears were apparently on the money when I heard that one. Edited August 12, 20231 yr by gooddelta
August 12, 20231 yr breaking the record for lengthiest BJSC winner probably with the 11 minute long Thomas Bergersen piece, I’ll be amazed if anyone manges to outdo that. albeit sad in the sense that the song wouldn’t have existed in the universe where Avicii was still alive and well. Gecko becoming a huge UK hit albeit in remixed form months after I sent it. Rumours giving me my long awaited first top ten then randomly becoming a minor UK hit.
August 12, 20231 yr CHUNG HA & R3HAB - Dream of You for being a K-Pop song that unexpectedly became a Top 5 smash! Also Regi & Emma Heesters - Zwaartekracht which should have won and I will die on this hill.
August 12, 20231 yr I'm mostly proud of my 90's entries...Adiemus 'Adiemus' is one of them but for the fun-sies reasons Chilli & Carrapicho 'Tic Tic Tac' is something I thought it will DNQ and then ended up in Top 10...I need to be brave and send more iconic 90's entries again!!! DO YOU REALLY WANNA KNOW ABOUT THE BOY FROM THE SHOW!!!
August 12, 20231 yr I've only done 3 (4 when the contest starts) so far but I can say that i'm really proud of 'DRACULA' & '$payforhaiti', we can all forget about TCTS :teresa: I'm at my proudest when I see other people enjoy the music that enjoy, corny but true lol I'm really excited to share my next entry tbh, could potentially become my favourite entry to date. August 12, 20231 yr There are a few that I am proud of for a variety of reasons Going super old school here, but BJSC VII was the first time I actually found an artist that wasn't previously known to me in any way, the first time I actually took a bit of a risk in BJSC and it landed me a solid top 10 result. WJjZ9RHW2RI BJSC VII: Red Blooded Women - Colour Me Dirty Fast forward two years and I got my very first winner! My 3rd time entering something not in English, I still love this song and I am still so proud that this was my debut winner because I think it really exemplifies the growth my personal music taste has had because of this contest. BJSC really opened up my ears to non-English content and now Molly, an artist I found while searching for something for the very first Foreign Language spin-off, is one of my favourite artists and last year I flew to Oslo to see two artists I have entered to BJSC (Veronica Maggio and Gabrielle) in a double headline show and not a word of English was sung all night. 2007 me would never have believed such a thing. UXD2HPqJuWY BJSC XXVIII: Molly Sandén - Mitt Liv Är Mitt This one I am just so proud of making it out of the Semi-Finals. Sadly the official video has vanished from YouTube but it is just an absolute riot and I was/am obsessed and so naturally I entered it into BJSC expecting it to absolutely bomb in the SF. It's my joint lowest finisher of all time, but that means it made it against all odds to the final and this is still probably the most proud and entirely honestly surprised I have ever been of one of my entries qualifying. -SKSC2-7evU BJSC XCV: Karpe Diem feat Izabell, Bendik, Stella Mwangi, Silvana Imam, Julie Bergan & Christine Dancke – Attitudeproblem (P3 Remix) A double header, this is one of my favourite runs of entires throughout my back catalogue. Desperate to find something, I think my first choice was unceremoniously vetoed, I was doing a YouTube related videos binge to try and hunt something down. Not even half way through the song, I'd submitted it as my entry. Never have I been so sure about having found a stone cold banger that the world needed to hear than with Wearing Nothing. Dagny is now one of my favourite artists of all time, I have seen her twice and I have two more dates booked in. I preach the good word of Dagny to all of my friends and basically anyone who will listen or who asks me for a music recommendation. hMqLEwk7KAw XCVI: Dagny - Wearing Nothing
August 12, 20231 yr Author I gave it some thought since I made this thread and I’ve come to conclude that from my first era in BJSC that Bailando was a punt for me to send something I was relatively unfamiliar with, in a different language, and from the last millennium. It performed quite well finishing 11th which was my highest finish to date at that point, and for a long time many after seemed to associate Zanmatony with this song and I can’t have an issue with that. kKqsV3t94PY Following Zanmatony’s return to the contest in 2021, I would suggest I’ve had quite a decent run of success with more qualifying entries than experienced before. I’ve constantly changed up the sounds and genres I’ve sent, and I’ve tried to become much more diverse in the selections I make and where they come from. Luna qualifying in the biggest participated contest I’ve been involved with was a major success for a genre that almost never gets seen in BJSC; PrXfHRYhHXk
August 13, 20231 yr I think my proudest would have to be When In Rome - The Promise, I really loved how much people connected with it and of course it being my first/only top ten helps! I'd also say Mahawam - Hoping No One Notice since I'd written it off as a no-hoper but it turned into my biggest hit at the time and got a little bit of hype.
August 14, 20231 yr I feel equally proud of my first two top 10s, but if I had to pick one... j-NAEvc-b6E It was my first country entry and I was amazed at how many voted for it! Not only that but it dominated the beginning of the results with a handful of 18s. One of the only times I've sent a song with 100% confidence it would do well, and I knew it on first listen, so I was proud of myself for finding the song in the first place.
August 14, 20231 yr I'd say in terms of contest success I am most proud of my Bon Bon - 10000 Luchtbalonnen - All Night Long - Blush run. 4 top 5 hits in 5 contests. Dead V had to ruin the streak in between
August 16, 20231 yr My debut entry - Mila Jovovic - The Gentleman Who Fell. I submitted it about 10 minutes after I was convinced to join the competition by wardy. No thinking. No knowledge of what works in BJSC. I ended up qualifying and achieved a result I haven't beaten since.
