Posted August 31, 20231 yr How well do you think Tension will do in its first week? Following the huge success of Disco in 2020, which opened with the highest first week sales of the year to that date of 54,905, Tension is released on 22 September. How do you think it will do? August 31, 20231 yr Went for No.1 (I mean why would it not be) with 50-60k sales. I think the Padam hype could help it do a little more than her last album but i'm not expecting a massive increase.
August 31, 20231 yr Easy number one on 60k+ I'd say. I see that 'Tension' has cassettes on first week too now, so the formats compared to 'DISCO' are roughly the same. So big coverage and 'Padam' success should bring it up. What 'Tension' doesn't have compared to 'DISCO' is a chart battle. Doja Cat clearly won't put such a threat like Little Mix did and cares mainly of the USA market where Kylie has no chance anyway. So 60k+ might be a bit optimistic, but let's see how 'Tension' the single fares too. If it becomes a hit, now that could give a multiplicative effect to the album!

She beat the the most amazingest girl band in the world, right??
August 31, 20231 yr Notably there have been zero other albums ever that had a hit before they came out :o (voted for #1 (obvz) and 60-70k, predicting it to have modestly better performance in both sales and streams than 'DISCO' - although fair point about it not having the big competition for #1 aspect this time)
August 31, 20231 yr The suggestion that this album is going to become a cultural touchstone as big as Thriller actually manages to be far more sensible than the idea of it selling a million in a week.  Edited August 31, 20231 yr by I am Kenough
August 31, 20231 yr I guessed <40K because Padam Padam is slightly a TikTok song IMO and I’m unsure whether her comeback is established enough from that. I’m a pessimist but happy to be proven wrong.
August 31, 20231 yr The two (so far) people that think this is gonna miss the top 10, are they trolling or just seriously deluded?
August 31, 20231 yr I’m sure it will enter at no1 but not sure how much it will sell. There is no denying the success of padam but not sure how tension will be received as a single. It might sell similar to disco maybe slightly more if tension is another hit.
August 31, 20231 yr Hopefully tension takes off, if nothing else i hope it can give Kylie another top 40 hit, Kylie getting 2 top 40s off one album this dat and age is great for her if it happens.
September 1, 20231 yr I'm surprised about the sub 40k votes! My prediction is that Tension will sell more than 40k by the time of the Monday midweeks, let alone the whole week. For comparision - Disco had sold 36,798 sales in the Monday midweeks. That was off the back of singles that up to that point had peaked at #82 (Say Something) and #75 (Magic), both having only spent 1 week in the Top 100. [Note: On the date that Disco entered at #1, both singles achieved new peaks - Say Something re-entered at #56 and Magic re-entered at #53 - both boosted by the sales of 7" vinyl singles] Disco's updates: #1 - 36,798 (Monday 9th November 2020) [midweek] #1 - 39,111 (Tuesday 10th November 2020) [midweek] (+2,313) #1 - 45,093 (Wednesday 11th November 2020) [midweek] (+5,982) #1 - 50,397 (Thursday 12th November 2020) [midweek] (+5,304) #1 - 54,095 (Friday 13th November 2020) [official chart] (+3,698) {+17,297 since Monday update} I see Tension selling more than Disco, I think 60k+ in a week. *Manifests*
