September 8, 20233 yr Author  Missed the top 40 this week? Nicki Minaj Last Time I Saw You 3rd single from Pink Friday 2 Released: 1st September 2023 Label: Young Money Video tjjADhzQKNM Biography Few artists have impacted 21st century rap like Nicki Minaj. Born Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad and Tobago in 1982 but raised mostly in Queens, Minaj attended Manhattan’s prestigious LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (the inspiration for the movie Fame) before trying to make it as an actor— a past evidenced by the deep performative streak that runs through her music today. Turning to rap in her twenties, Minaj quickly became one of the brightest stars in Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money universe. Her work—shapeshifting, ferocious, cartoonish, and often filled with oddball voices and alter egos—is as capable of breaking hearts (“Super Bass”) as it is detaching heads (her breakout verse on Kanye West’s 2010 “Monster,” in which she arguably outshined both West and fellow guest Jay-Z). Minaj’s electrifying presence has also made her a secret weapon in the pop world, where she's just as likely to share credits with David Guetta and Justin Bieber as Ludacris and Future. On top of her own success, Minaj helped rap—and rap audiences—look past narratives of gritty realism for something fluid and playful, but no less genuine or powerful. Railing against the double standard faced by women in entertainment, the outspoken Minaj once told MTV, “You have to be a beast. That’s the only way they respect you.” - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2010 71 Your Love -1- 2010 100 What's Wrong With Them (Lil Wayne feat. September 8, 20233 yr Author  Missed the top 40 this week? Doja Cat Demons 3rd single from Scarlet Released: 1st September 2023 Label: Kemosabe Records / RCA Records Video qwtyEKTGGQ8 Biography Some call the end of summer the “slow news season”—school's still out, vacation is in full swing, and headlines tend to get weird—and Doja Cat (born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini in 1995) knew just what to do about it. In August of 2018, the Los Angeles singer and rapper dropped “Mooo!”, a sultry R&B jam, thick with double entendres and sung from the perspective of a cow. It went viral, thanks to an unforgettable, improbably catchy chorus that had people wondering: Could she possibly be for real? But Doja, who released her debut EP, Purrr!, in 2014, and her first album, Amala, in 2018, was no novelty act. In the years since, she has proven herself one of pop music’s savviest, most audacious characters. She raps nimbly, switching up her cadence from one syllable to the next, and her pop-culture nods (referencing actresses Tia and Tamera Mowry or sampling blink-182 and Paul Anka) are just as unpredictable as her dizzying flow. Her presentation is both tough and coquettish. As she demonstrated over and over on her 2019 album, Hot Pink, she assumes a fun and fundamentally empowered stance in her singing and rapping about sex. And woe to anyone who might take issue with that: “Sex is meaningful, it is!” she told Apple Music, with her trademark defiant charm. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2019 80 Juicy (Doja Cat & Tyga) -1- 2020 02 Say So -2- MILLIONAIRE 2020 24 Boss Bitch -OST- 2020 62 Like That (feat. September 8, 20233 yr Author  Missed the top 40 this week? Tion Wayne and Nines AMEN Non-album single Released: 31st August 2023 Label: Warner Music UK Video SjC9U-b0cgE Biography Tion Wayne Tion Wayne is the North London cult hero climbing the mountain to the top of UK rap royalty. Making his breakthrough in 2014 with debut mixtape Wayne’s World, the icon from Edmonton effortlessly dissected his experiences of trapping, the street life and run ins with the law. Wayne’s World sequels in 2016 and 2019, via 2017’s Transition EP, would further Tion’s standing in the scene, keeping the streets fed and cultivating his now undeniable status as a staple in UK rap today. His musical dexterity has been proven over a myriad of sounds, from UK drill anthems such as one of 2020’s best, ‘I Dunno,’ and ‘Keisha & Becky’ with Russ to assist on hits such as NSG’s Afroswing-leaning ‘Options’. In a relatively brief time, Tion has racked up multiple UK Top 10 singles, over 500 million streams, frequent radio play on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra and placement on the popular Spotify playlists Hot Hits UK, Rap UK and Who We Be. Critical acclaim followed in 2020 with his GRM Rated Award win for Track Of The Year for the colossal ‘I Dunno,’ proving just how far Tion’s music has travelled and inspired. - Spotify Nines Nines first shot to notoriety with 2012 mixtape Church Road To Hollywood, a fiery, compelling body of work that spawned a string of street anthems, seeing Nines play out his role as North West London’s Robin Hood – a rapper intent on giving back to his local community. The release was later followed by the 2013 mixtape Gone Till November which earnt him the People’s Choice Award at the 2013 BBC 1Xtra Mixtape Awards. Sequentially came the 2014 release Loyal To The Soil and One Foot In the following year, which saw him nominated for Best Hip Hop Act at the 2015 MOBO Awards. A pioneering and differentiated young polymath, few artists are able to retain the artistic vision and credibility that Nines has spent the last 10 years uncompromisingly building. In 2017, Nines released his debut album One Foot Out which thrust him into the limelight as a raw, honest and richly inventive artist like no other, this was followed by his 2018 sophomore offering Crop Circle -which debuted at number 4 in the UK album chart and went on to be the biggest selling UK rap album of 2018- the album featured lead single I See You Shining, the track is currently sat at over 20M YouTube views and has recorded over 300,000 sales. Continuing to solidify his reputation as a singular British creative force like no other, in 2020 he released his most recent album Crabs In A Bucket (which is now certified Gold) securing his first number 1 album and 3rd consecutive album in the UK Top 5. - Spotify Top 100 Chart History Tion Wayne 2019 07 Options (NSG feat. September 8, 20233 yr I quite enjoy Paint The Town Red, much prefer it over say so/kiss me more (and any of the Planet Her singles) so I'm glad this is her first #1 over those. Just kinda wish it hadn't exploded just so Cruel Summer could've snuck (a probably very low-selling) #1!
September 8, 20233 yr Author  Future chart hit? Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion Bongos 4th single from forthcoming studio album Released: 8th September 2023 Label: Atlantic Recording Corporation Video Ux1f1Q8Zxhk Biography Cardi B Cardi B’s come-up reads like a 2010s Cinderella story. In just a handful of years, the sharp-tongued New Yorker went from viral Instagram phenom to one of hip-hop’s most exciting voices, establishing herself as a bossed-up feminist icon along the way. Born Belcalis Almanzar in the South Bronx in 1992, Cardi got a job as a stripper at 19, quickly building a social media following—in addition to her devotees at the club—for her viral videos and hilarious catchphrases. In 2015, she scored a spot on VH1’s drama-filled reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York, where her brash personality turned her into an immediate fan favorite among her more established costars. That same over-the-top charisma made Cardi a natural fit for rap dominance; witty, unfiltered, and totally fearless, her early tracks doubled as mantras for self-made women who put themselves first. But it was “Bodak Yellow” that launched Cardi into superstardom; a trap anthem that rang out from cars and clubs throughout 2017, it begging you to shout along. Her 2018 debut album, Invasion of Privacy, fused the Latin music of her childhood with hardcore New York hustlers' anthems, and squashed any doubts as to whether Cardi was here to stay. Meanwhile, her scene-stealing guest verses span the pop charts, from Bruno Mars (“Finesse [Remix]”) and Ozuna (“La Modelo”) to Maroon 5 (“Girls Like You”) and Megan Thee Stallion ("WAP"). Not bad for a self-proclaimed regular girl from The Bronx. - Apple Music Megan Thee Stallion The way she tells it, Megan Thee Stallion only jumped on the mic to impress a guy. She’d been writing, but she hadn’t really opened it up in public before. But this was college, and the boys were freestyling, and she’d had a couple of drinks. “I didn’t know how it was gonna turn out,” she told Apple Music in 2019. “I just knew I wasn’t finna look weak.” Rapper, yes: clever, commanding, funny, filthy. But she's also become a kind of avatar for supreme self-confidence, the Hot Girl out to make Hotness broader, more inclusive, a state you embrace for yourself instead of having conferred on you by someone else. Born Megan Pete in 1995 and raised in the South Park neighborhood of Houston, the Up Next honoree and 2020 Apple Music Awards Breakthrough Artist of the Year grew up on hardcore Southern stuff: Three 6 Mafia and UGK, Pimp C especially. Early cyphers went viral—the presence was ferocious, the flow precise. Her key tracks, from tunes like “Big Ole Freak” to the 2020 Cardi B collaboration juggernaut “WAP,” don't just carry the torch of Houston rap but a legacy of trash talk that goes back to Lil’ Kim and The Notorious B.I.G.—characters so big they read like comic books (Pete is, unsurprisingly, a lifelong anime fan). Like any great rapper, she can put the same few things to you a thousand different ways. “Put him on his knees, give him somethin' to believe in,” she raps on Cardi B's “WAP.” And in case Megan's intentions weren’t clear, consider this, from “Captain Hook”: “I like to drink and I like to have sex.” Weak? Doesn’t seem like an issue. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Cardi B 2017 24 Bodak Yellow -1- 2017 49 MotorSport (Migos, Nicki Minaj & Cardi B) 2017 45 No Limit (G-Eazy feat. September 8, 20233 yr The Doja song has grown on me a bit but I still find the sample a tad annoying Cruel Summer would have been a much much better #1 this week
September 8, 20233 yr Author (bonus missing out song, I prepped Nicki for the top 40 but obviously she didn't make it so figured I may as well get some use out of it x)
September 8, 20233 yr oh shame nicki missed out! its nothing special but its a nice enough song, was hoping it would have done enough to sneak low top 40 :(

September 8, 20233 yr Had to look up that ZWE1HVNDXR song but it appears it's a second third charting phonk hit oh my (following Kordhell, and similarly just showing up in the chart out of nowhere presumably because of a streaming split with the slowed and sped up versions). edit: also following INTERWORLD, thanks Dan for reminding me x No reset for 'Delilah (pull me out of this)' but 'Snooze' has got one following its video release, re-entering at #47. Måneskin scraping a top 75 hit, the ongoing relevance! Nice for Jungle getting their first as well (and only their second top 100 hit). If only it debuted one place lower to match the song title tho x Zach and Kacey to contend for top 40 next week now they're on HHUK?
September 8, 20233 yr Do not get this Cruel Summer love at all. It's trite pop by Regina George. I mean, you're berating it for being "pop" on a website where a large swathe of the member base are pop lovers 🤷
September 8, 20233 yr I notice the OCC website has finally corrected the title of the Fred again.. track (they listed it as 'i adore u' before) but Obongjayar remains uncredited.
