But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. Though 2017’s reputation might have been perceived as a gorgeously constructed piece of dramatic theater—its attendant heroes and villains all real-life characters from Swift's public feuds—all that spectacle proved an attention-grabbing cover for her most romantic album yet. She turned up the romance even more on 2019’s Lover, but it was 2020’s folklore and its companion, evermore—ruminative, relatively lo-fi albums written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic—that earned her the Apple Music Award for Songwriter of the Year. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2009 02 Love Story -1- MILLIONAIRE 2009 60 White Horse -AT- 2009 51 Teardrops On My Guitar -2- 2009 100 Crazier -OST- 2009 30 You Belong With Me -3- 2010 57 Today Was A Fairytale -OST- 2010 30 Mine -1- 2012 67 Safe & Sound (feat. September 22, 20233 yr Greedy top 10 (yasss at Tate getting another deserved smash, this time instantly *.* She's All I Wanna Be deserved top 10!) and Cruel Summer still slaying
September 22, 20233 yr Struggling a bit with Greedy so far - really not keen on the vocals and the (I think?) auto tune effect in the chorus doesn’t help. LOL at Jack thinking Guts is a #2 album.
September 22, 20233 yr Quite enjoying 'greedy' on first listen, can definitely see why it's been more of an instant hit for her although it's not quite as good as 'she's all i wanna be' for me. She really is a chameleon though - 4 top 20 hits and all of them sound like they could be by completely different artists (one of them literally is to be fair). Kinda sounds like it could have come out like 10-15 years ago lol but I wouldn't say it's painfully dated or anything.
September 22, 20233 yr Author 06 | 03 | 6th week Olivia Rodrigo bad idea right? 2nd single from GUTS Released: 11th August 2023 Label: Olivia Rodrigo Chart Statistics NE (24/08/2023) | 6-11-11-12-3-6 Sales: 100k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 21 Sales 04 Audio Streaming 08 Video Streaming Video Dj9qJsJTsjQ Biography A few weeks after Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license” became the biggest song in the world, Saturday Night Live ran a sketch that featured a bunch of middle-aged guys shooting pool in a dive bar. One puts “drivers license” on the jukebox. Another complains that it just sounds like a teenage girl sitting alone at a piano. By the end of their discourse, they’re all in tears, singing along. “I was driving around my neighborhood listening to really sad songs, like, crying in the car,” Rodrigo told Apple Music. “And I got home and I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll write a song about this: crying in the car.’” Rodrigo had tapped into a universal experience: The middle-aged guys weren’t teenage girls, but they’d also driven around listening to sad songs. Rodrigo was just 17 when the song came out, but she had been getting ready for years. Born in Temecula, California, in 2003, she started lessons in piano, voice, and acting as a child, and went on to star in Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. But, really, what could prepare you for breaking the global single-week streaming record for a female artist? Especially on your first single? And getting a nod from Taylor Swift in the meantime? (Along with “drivers license” winning the Apple Music Award for Top Song of the Year in 2021, Rodrigo’s debut LP, SOUR, was the Top Album of the Year and Rodrigo herself was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year.) Like Swift—and Lorde, too—Rodrigo has a knack for conjuring big feelings through small details: an ex singing along to their Billy Joel with his new love (“deja vu”), reading his self-help books “so you’d think that I was smart” (“enough for you”). Her content is all-caps, but her delivery is lowercase, lacing bedroom pop with a vulnerability and anger rare for teen pop: “Where’s my f***ing teenage dream?” she wonders on “brutal.” “I’m the biggest emo drama queen,” Rodrigo tells Apple Music. Maybe. But the key to letting it out is keeping it together. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2020 32 All I Want -OST- 2021 01 drivers license -1- MILLIONAIRE 2021 04 deja vu -2- 2021 01 good 4 u -3- MILLIONAIRE 2021 05 traitor -4- 2021 17 favorite crime -AT- 2021 36 jealousy, jealousy -AT- 2023 01 vampire -1- 2023 03 bad idea right? -2- 2023 07 get him back! -3- 3 x #1 | 6 x Top 5 | 7 x Top 10 | 8 x Top 20 | 10 x Top 40 | 10 x Top 100 Social Media Olivia Rodrigo http://i.imgur.com/1SERq1f.png

September 22, 20233 yr This song just gets more and more cringe every time I hear it oops. I've heard clips of the rest of the album now and most of it does sound quite promising so hopefully this will be the worst song on it x (will listen to the album soon)

Born in 1993, London-based songwriter/producer Fred John Philip Gibson treats his electro and rave-inspired songs as diary entries. But the artist, who performs under the name Fred Again.., doesn’t limit the subject matter to himself. On albums like 2021’s Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2020) and its sequel, Actual Life 2 (February 2 - October 15 2021), Fred invited his friends into the studio to record their personal stories and then sprinkled them throughout the album. (The obvious exception was an epic Kodak Black sample on “Kahan (Last Year)”.) The songwriter has also worked with stars such as Eminem and Ed Sheeran, but Fred’s longest collaboration is with his brothers, whom he shares his tracks with before they’re released. “It’s such a blessing to work with both of my brothers,” Fred explained in an interview with Apple Music. “I’ll spend hours and hours working on a tune, and they’ll hear it how I will, but without all the baggage. They bring a fresh ear.” - Apple Music Obongjayar Steven Umoh, known by his stage name Obongjayar, is a Nigerian musical artist based in London. With a mere eight months of production under his belt, the track has marked a transformative milestone. Derived from D-Block Europe track “Ferrari Horses,” featuring the enchanting vocals of songstress RAYE, the producer’s trance-infused adaptation was conceived on his university laptop earlier this year. The track notably marks her debut for Warner Records’ flagship dance label Major Recordings. On the track, vibey synths wrap around an addictive drum ‘n’ bass core. At the same time, she layers evocative vocals over this propulsive backdrop. Her gentle delivery barely cracks a whisper as she captures the outpour of emotion at the end of a relationship. It culminates on a disarmingly catchy chorus as she sings, “Then one random night when everything changes, you won’t reply and we’ll go back to strangers.” Stay tuned for the premiere of a cinematic music video to accompany the song. Earlier this year, Kenya lit up streaming platforms with “Meteor.” Thus far, it has generated north of 4 million streams and 250K YouTube views. Earning acclaim, STEREOFOX raved, “There’s no stopping the beautiful energy it carries.” At the same time, her fan base continues to rapidly expand. She regularly pulls the curtain back on her process with intriguing social media posts. She frequently showcases her production and vocal skills with live performance videos. As a result, her cumulative following is just shy of 1 million.
