Hi all

 

Sorry for the delay - here is my NMTB quiz. :music:

 

I've given you 30 clips to identify, all mashed together. The length of the clips ranges from around 5 to 15 seconds with an average of 10, so the track is 5 minutes in total. The clips are all from the introductory section of the song but are not necessarily right at the beginning.

 

Please PM me your answers, listing the artist and title for each of Numbers 1 to 30. All the songs are Top 40 hits from the 80s onwards, with a fairly even spread across the decades.

 

There is a theme connecting all but 1 of the clips for you to work out. The other clip is a red herring - however it also relates back to the theme in some way.

 

Additionally the clips have been placed in a specific order which is separate from the main theme - I will give points to anyone who can work that out.

 

Also please guess which will be the most and the least correctly identified clips. You can give me a number from 1 to 30 for this even if you don’t know it yourself.

 

Obviously Shazam or anything like that is not allowed, but general internet research is fine.

 

Here are the clips. As usual I've done it via a phone recording, not knowing how to do anything more technically advanced, so the quality is not great but hopefully it’s all listenable.

Ooooo just had a listen and recognise a lot of these, some absolute classics in there :wub:

 

As always a fair few that I know I do know but don't immediately spring to mind too. No obvious theme or order jumped out at me at all though

Think I have five on first listen, so a lot of straining to try and find some vocals for the rest of them! (I've also counted 31 songs so need to make sure I get my order right for the final submission :lol:)

Exciting. Can't wait to get stuck in :dance:

Apologies - I realised I'd made a mistake so I've needed to edit the track. Only 1 clip has changed, plus the ordering of a couple of others in the middle.

Can I just check the right version of the track is now embedded?

 

Recognise quite a few of these from first listen and there's many others that I know I know, so I should be able to get with repeated listens. I've also got a *vague* idea of the connection but I'd need to get a few more to confirm!

Yes I corrected it before that post (but thought I’d better post in case anyone had already written down answers).

oh wow pretty difficult, I know a bunch, funnily more towards the end, the first ones I know nothing :D

I’ve just realised the link to the connection is awry for the very last clip. I won’t change the track again now but the last clip is not the red herring so don’t be thrown off by it not fitting.

Wow this one's a toughie, only 10 I'm confident of and I'm not someone where other clips will come to me in this type of game I either know it instantly or won't get it at all. Most of these were before my time.

It’s very roughly 1/4 80s, 1/4 90s, 1/4 00s and 1/4 post 2010, so I don’t think most are before your time Dobbo. ;)

I've got a few from the middle section... but was listening blankly to most at the start and the end 🙈

I feel like I must know the theme but there's either something wrong with my guesses or with my research haha!

Yep! 4 entries received so far but still plenty of time! :)

I’ll give a hint and say that the main connection is chart related.

 

6 entries so far and everything has been answered correctly but not by 1 single entrant. :)

I think my idea for the connection must be correct as it would far too much of a coincidence for it to work out on so many of them bar the ones that don’t quite fit

In case anyone missed my comment above, I realised clip 30 doesn’t quite fit. There’s one other that’s borderline as well but I think it’s OK. And of course there’s the actual red herring.
