Astonished that no download campaign has started up for Fairytale of New York! It’s well within reach too, probably only needs 20k downloads, even LadBaby’s terrible track last year managed 70k downloads didn’t it? Why have the media not whipped people up into a frenzy yet like usual?!

 

There very much is a download campaign! It just really hasn’t headed anywhere. These days there is very little motivation to download and those who are motivated generally don’t know how (as Chloe mentioned). Effectively you’re paying money for nothing - and even though a small number of people are willing to do that, the general public isn’t - now that they’ve got used to streaming.

 

Somehow LadBaby managed to persuade people to download - but it’s something hardly anyone else has managed to achieve - beyond a couple of thousand maximum.

Fairytale is down to 6 on iTunes. It also seems to be making no headway on streaming platforms. It will surely need at least 10,000, but more likely 15,000 vinyl to reach number 1. I doubt this number has been produced! But also how many singles have sold that number on vinyl recently? We overestimate people’s willingness to do anything other than stream.

It would probably need even more given Wham! also have physicals and are well ahead on Spotify as well. Plus Wham!'s pre-order has been up for a lot longer and probably generated more sales

 

 

Honestly if the Pogues aren't going to do it then I hope they aren't remotely close.

I'd love the Pogues to get the number 1 as it's never managed it where wham have (,even if not the actual Christmas number 1) if they don't do it I'd be team Sam as he would love a number . I'm not a huge last Christmas fan but like it more than I used to but I think it's looking like last Christmas will be very hard to beat. It's strange that mariah doesn't even seem to a contender this year.

Went to number 1 in Ireland last week! Dropped to number 2 this week, replaced by Noah Kahan who had been there for the previous 4 weeks.

 

In Northern Ireland it was number 1 on the NI Hit 40 chart which takes in sales, streams and airplay.
