November 19, 20232 yr The Beatles were #1 in First Look last week and ended up at #6 by the end of the week so I'm confident they'll drop a fair bit, allowing Dua a route back into the top 5. Physical sales are likely keeping them so high in the early flashes (HMV had loaaaaads of copies earlier)
November 19, 20232 yr Might be tempted to check if there’s any physical of the Beatles in HMV! Interesting to see the first sales figures as I’m sure we could predict where ‘Now and Then’ will end up after last week, the longer their in the top 20 hopefully more playlists will add and move higher!
November 19, 20232 yr I think if they were going to get heavy playlist support it would have happened already - realistically the song would stick out like a sore thumb compared to everything else on current hits playlists and it's clearly appealing primarily to a different market than the typical current hit song (or at least in a different way) so I understand why it's not being supported so heavily. It's done great for itself to get a comfortable #1 and at least one more week in the top 10.
November 19, 20232 yr exactly, if something, HH could have added them in week 1 and them drop it but adding it now makes zero sense people that listen to the Beatles albums are not the same people that stream the HH playlist
November 19, 20232 yr But it is a hit so there would be no big deal then adding it, I mean the likes of Noah Kahan are similar in that they aren’t conventional pop songs. Apple have added them to their equilivant playlist albeit quite far down the list so it happens on other platforms. Edit: just double checked and ‘Now and Then’ is track 50 on Todays Hits playlist so Apple does add it to their playlist. Edited November 19, 20232 yr by steve201
November 19, 20232 yr 'Stick Season' still has an identifiably modern sound though. 'Now And Then' is a slightly souped up demo from the 70s and you can tell. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, but it just makes sense why Spotify aren't rushing to stick it at #1 on Hot Hits.
