December 15, 20232 yr Author As per the dates listed on the website, the playlist will now be frozen for three weeks so there will be no update until 5th Jan (I'm sure it was only frozen for two weeks in recent years, they're clearly just feeling more lazy this year). Last week's mystery TBC was indeed Fred again.. & Baby Keem, which climbs to the B-list this week. Madison Beer on the A-list for the first time as lead artist :o their sudden support for her seems quite out of the blue tbh! There doesn't appear to be a TOTW this week, or a BBC Introducing artist as they're obviously winding down for Christmas. Surprised they bothered with a future artist for December. December 15, 20232 yr That A-list needs a good clear out in the new year! I did think Madison Beer might have been A-listed this time around, but I wasn’t expecting Barry Can’t Swim or venbee to climb there too. Regarding the TOTW, last year they had the Hottest Record of the Year as TOTW so if there is one this weekend then it’ll be Nothing But Thieves - Welcome to the DCC. Makes sense not to put that on the website though with the playlist spanning three weekends.
December 15, 20232 yr Next week will probably be full of Christmas tunes and if the last few years is anything to go by then they usually play mixes of past years between Boxing Day and New Year with a Radio 1 Chill day on NYD, so even though the playlist is frozen for 3 weeks, it's not like we're going to get to Jan 2nd and dying for a playlist refresh. They usually do a big one first week in January anyway.
December 15, 20232 yr Yep it's Anthems between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve. New Year's Day is Radio 1 Happy this time. So it was Fred again.. all this time! Great to see venbee and Barry Can't Swim up to the A List. Kenya Grace added is nice to see too.
December 15, 20232 yr 6 songs on the A-List right now that haven't made the UK top 40 (and don't think any of them are likely to change that), that feels higher than usual? :thinking: Wikipedia doesn't list a new single from the Nicki album since its release yet. Not that it matters much but wouldn't be surprised if it is just swapped out for 'Everybody' after the freeze. Also random but I heard that Cat Burns song on R1 the other week and it is so so painfully cliché and amateur, even worse than 'go'. Can the radio please stop trying to make her a thing -_-

December 15, 20232 yr Taking 'Greedy' off makes sense (especially as it'll be "frozen" for 3 weeks now...) but to ditch 'exes' last week when it probably will and should be a big hit in the new year is really bizarre. I'm seeing it start to take off more on Tik Tok right now and I honestly think it could've benefited more with it being frozen on the playlist this week, Having no Tate on there at all when she's currently active is odd tbh.
