    DANG! (great compilation)

Another fab job there. Some of those tracklistings in particular look super strong which is a testament to the year 99 was in general for music!

Was there anything left out that you think should gave been included?

Most of my favourites of the year that we had to leave out are songs by artists already on there with another hit (ATB/Alice Deejay/Texas/Basement Jaxx/TLC/Blur) or artists that were not even part of the conversation (Jewel/Thunderbugs).

I also would have liked a couple more of the US rock hits (Sugar Ray - Every Morning and Shawn Mullins' Lullaby), but I think we have a good balance of the biggest hits and enduring classics.

With a few notable exceptions...

Maybe Billie - Honey to the Bee. I’m under the impression that it was one of her better respected songs at the time she was a popstar, and the Radio 1 campaign in 2007 sending it back into the Top 20 provided more memorability!

The no duplicates rule makes sense in order to give representation to many different artists, and for the most part it doesn’t create major losses - like Mi Chico Latino makes sense as the one pick for Geri. I guess the toughest one is Shania Twain, given that both That Don’t Impress Me Much and Man! I Feel Like a Woman are 1999 essentials.

An excellent tracklist overall, covering many genres that made that year what it was. CD1 & CD2 are right up my street. CD3 & CD4 less so, but there’s a smattering of tracks I like across them.

Honey to the Bee fell by the wayside during an evening of ruthless culling. It felt a touch derivative to me and not at all essential. It may have been one of her better respected songs but it still lives in the shadow of Never Ever.

Shania was certainly suggested as someone who should have two appearances. As was Fat Boy Slim. It's a rule we will no doubt have to break at some point.

Yes it was on the longlist and I shared the same points about it in our discussions. At least she's on that ABBA tribute :D

Agreed, Man! I Feel Like A Woman was a tricky cut - must try and find space for it on another future album.

I’ve never made a connection between Honey to the Bee and Never Ever!

If I was involved I would have fought in your corner! :kink:

I just listened to it again to make sure I wasn't being overly harsh. I'm afraid there's a lot similarities to my ears.

I managed to fight Celine Dion onto here! That was my proud inclusion

Will have to listen to these! :music:

Shame my fave from Mr Adams couldn’t quite squeeze in, but the standard is very high for this year.

Cloud Number 9? Oh well Ultrabeat's dance version might make it in for a future 2004 compilation!

I hard fought battle. I had Celine in the bin more than once.

Cassius returned from the recycle bin, and I also fought for A Little Bit Of Luck and Sun Is Shining to retain their spots, despite Bob being impossible to sequence every time he crops up

Colm very successfully defended Out Of The Blue while 1999 and Gouryella went to the scrap heap

From Google searching it seems others have made the connection too. Yet I’ve listened to both numerous times over the years and never once felt like they were cut from the same cloth. Curious! I think Honey to the Bee is quite a light and breezy track, and a bit of a sugar rush, compared to Never Ever having a more heavy tone and a soulful feel.

Yes Chicane’s Radio remix of Cloud Number 9 was an all time fave of mine growing up at that time, I didn’t fight hard enough for it unlike Rich with Celine Dion! :(
