The Pogues blow their last ever chance to be Christmas Number 1. Shane's death close to Christmas was the only hope left.

True tbh!

And doubt there'll be another Band Aid. The last one was criticised for being condescending.

Would have preferred Sam being honest but again #2 is fab for him and I guess getting there on Alexa would feel a easy tactic. Such a upbeat fun track anyhow.

Cool to have Andrew on the show though :o

Perfect top 2 really. Sam has a cool song and seems a great guy and Whsm finally get Christmas number 1👏👏👏

Thanks all for joining, Merry Christmas to you all!! :cheer:

See you next Friday at 2pm for the Chart of the Year!

Well, I’m well chuffed for Wham. Last Christmas finally a Christmas number 1 - yay!

First time hearing this and really liking it! It’s giving kinda early Olly Murs.

Hooray to a little bit of money for betting on Wham though, a nice £27. I don’t put nearly as much on as some of you brave souls

Only took 39 years to do it but I'm pleased "Last Christmas" is FINALLY Christmas No 1.

To be fair, this is a really good song from Sam, hardly gonna complain about him getting into the race with a good new Christmas song.

good on Wham I guess, now we play the waiting game to see if this can become a regular occurence or not.

Oh and yes awaiting a full £100 deposited (and swiftly exited from) into my betting account I should think, congrats to anyone else who bet correctly on Wham.
Thanks Joseph for running this and all charts this year so well!
Andrew Ridgeley referring to George Michael as Yog will confuse some Radio 1 listeners.
Bless Andrew - he's not been interviewed for a while.

It needs to be #1 next year because then it’ll be a huge story of the same song being Xmas #1 twice, two years in a row.

It also needs to be #1 in 2026 due to it being 40 years since Wham’s split and 10 years since George Michael died.

It also needs to be #1 in 2027 as that’ll be the big 40 Years since Fairytale of New York chart battle.

It also needs to be #1 in 2028 to celebrate 30 years since George Michael came out, and for what have been his 65th birthday.

It also needs to be #1 in 2029 to celebrate 10 years since the film ‘Last Christmas’…
