And Tate McRae

I do wonder if Anti-Hero could've overtaken Escapism if Escapism didn't have a mini resurgence over the past two months?

Indeed it definitely would have. :)

Escapism is utterly glorious.’

Biography

Dave

Challenging power and perception with a free-spoken approach to rap, Dave has indelibly amplified hip-hop’s voice in Britain. Born David Orobosa Omoregie in Brixton, London in 1998, Dave suddenly implanted himself in the UK rap scene in 2016, first with the electric grime alliance “Thiago Silva” with AJ Tracey and then when Drake jumped on the remix of the velvety “Wanna Know” from Dave’s first EP, Six Paths. Rebuffing label advances to pursue his career independently, he demonstrated a self-reliant streak on releases such as his 2017 EP Game Over, whose “Question Time,” a scathing attack on Theresa May’s Conservative government, garnered him an Ivor Novello songwriting award. Dave’s full-length debut, the Mercury Prize winner Psychodrama, followed in 2019; epitomizing his achingly honest rap style, it laid bare personal vulnerabilities while challenging institutional racism in a provocative fashion rarely heard in British rap. The centerpiece of the lavishly soundscaped album was “Black,” a heart-wrenching portrait of the prejudice affronting Black lives. At the 2020 BRIT Awards, where Psychodrama won Album of the Year, Dave started his performance of “Black” by accompanying himself on piano and ended it by excoriating British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a “real racist” and executing a perfect mic drop. - Apple Music

Central Cee

Central Cee is proving himself to be one of London’s most exciting emerging artists. Whilst only just turning 22, the rapper had already released a slew of solid tracks in addition to a powerful Next Up Freestyle on Mixtape Madness reflecting the rising star’s versatility and distinctive delivery. Building on this foundation, in 2020, Central Cee has gone from strength to strength dropping two singles ‘Day In A Life’ and ‘Molly’, with both tracks having racked up 8 million audio streams collectively. The heat surrounding Central Cee along with some killer short freestyle videos showcasing Central Cee’s lyrical abilities has led to him doubling his instagram following in a matter of months (currently 135K). He’s also gained support from various artists at home and abroad including a co-sign from US rapper Big Sean. Music has been an integral part of Central Cee’s upbringing, dating back to the tender age of 8. His eagerness to create his own musical legacy is deeply rooted within his earliest memories of absorbing the rich sounds of his dad's old school hip hop collection. - Spotify

Biography

“I think there’s a time in every artist’s life [when] they have to do something that isn’t for fans, isn’t for success, isn’t for touring,” Miley Cyrus told Apple Music in 2018. Cyrus could’ve been speaking about any number of moments from her profoundly varied career. Born Destiny Hope Cyrus—the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus—in Tennessee in 1992, the innovative artist has hardly stayed in one lane for more than a single album since she broke from the bubblegum pop that catapulted her to stardom as Disney’s Hannah Montana. Her 2009 summer anthem “Party In the U.S.A.” earned her a rapid ascent within the pop world, where 2013’s Bangerz—which showcased her musical maturity with “Wrecking Ball” and experimented with elements of Dirty South hip-hop—made her an icon. Vocal about her pansexuality and love for marijuana, Cyrus has worked hard to shed her wholesome teen image, and simultaneously defied odds by earning a reputation for an intense work ethic and an unshakable self-assuredness. She headed to left-field with the psych-tinged 2015 album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, a collaboration with members of The Flaming Lips, and with 2017’s Younger Now, a countrified pop offering that featured godmother Dolly Parton. And she's teamed up with rappers Mike Will Made It and will.i.am, Sarah Barthel of electronic rock group Phantogram, and, in 2018, Mark Ronson for the dramatic hit single “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.” Those frequent partnerships have been major catalysts in the creation of Cyrus' diverse catalog and in the cementing of her status as a pop pace-setter by refusing to let it, or herself, be easily defined. - Apple Music

I prefer to see Dave this high and not Drake or Ed Sheeran tbh

Well I can’t stand drake but I think there were 10-20 deserving before sprinter

The right song won imo. :D

Sprinter is meh, Miley's album was very disappointing for me after the fab Plastic Hearts but I do really like Flowers!

The rest of the top 40 (bar a missing #30) from the OCC site

Buble's Holly Jolly Christmas shows at 30 for me!

Christmas Tree Farm nearly reaching a new peak! The way its performing so much better on permanent ACR than it did when it was on SCR fml

Pleased that Miley is #1! I'm pretty bored of the song now as it was overplayed to death but did appreciate it before that and I'm sure will do again when it dies down.

I'd class myself as a fan of Dave in general but 'Sprinter' isn't really my thing.

Thanks very much for a superb hosting job here, Joseph  have a great 2024 everyone!

Buble's Holly Jolly Christmas shows at 30 for me!

Thanks! Was going by the article but forgot the charts page would have updated by now too

During its ten weeks at number 1, only 3,383 people actually downloaded Sprinter.

During its ten weeks at number 1, Flowers was downloaded 61,657 times.

I really like Sprinter - it’s the production that makes it;’especially the guitar backing. Hugely underrated on Buzzjack.

It’s Flowers that’s the weakest link in the Top 5 for me but it’s alright.

amazing to see Miracle top five of the year - a real iconic moment for dance music it was Calvin bringing the classic trance sound back

Anti Hero I can’t begrudge overtaking it to number four too much, it’s an excellent pop record and probably my fave of Taylor’s overall.

yay for Escapism in the top three as well, excellent pop record again and a very deserved surprise megahit it was around this time last year.

Sprinter a great rap hit too, a deserving massive hit for the genre and I hope we get more like it from Dave next year.

I’m quite impressed at the overall quality of this years top five actually, I enjoy all of it a fair bit, even if Flowers is my least favourite of them, it’s a well written pop song so can’t moan at it sitting at number one.

I might not be a fan of Flowers but I’m glad it stopped that tripe going to #1 and Calm Down is the biggest song of the year that hasn’t reached #1 at all and Anti-Hero is the biggest song which hasn’t been #1 anytime this year

Ariana finally does it :o

Flowers is such a bore butexpected I guess. Sprinter was a moment, not a great song but a good one for dave and especially central cee standarda o
