Asterisk against Riptide’s new peak as it reached the top 10 pre-2017 before the Spotify website started collecting data.

 

Why’s it so high tho? I know it’s been hanging around the top 50 for ages but #11 is a bit absurd?

I think Riptide has literally just become the 2010s Mr Brightside now, even down to its official #10 peak

don't think there's a specific reason it's so high, it's just constant playlist and TikTok exposure over the years

You might be right. I just checked Stick Season radio (which is what Spotify autoplays if you play Stick Season and don't put on a new song before it finishes) and the 2nd song it plays is Riptide. :o And the 3rd song it plays is Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners – Evergreen.

 

So that's probably helping a bit. But the radio isn't the same for everybody, but probably a lot of people will have Riptide come on afterwards.

Riptide is 31st on the equivalent Stick Season radio for me.

 

It was the 40th biggest song of 2023 so while it has undoubtedly got a boost from somehwere, it may also be people lapsing after Christmas music just going back to the safety of their old favourites while they wait for the year to start and for them to get properly into new music again. You'd think it would drop down quite swiftly again within the next few weeks, but then again, who knows if it's growing on TikTok etc (I don't know if it is).

Reset Mr Brightside and Unwritten too for a proper early 00s comeback please. :cheeseblock:

It almost certainly helps, but this folk trend has been happening for a while now. ‘Ophelia’ and ‘Evergreen’ have been appearing on the Spotify chart for over a year now, and we had Lizzy McAlpine’s ‘ceilings’ chart this time last year now too.
