Thank you for all the suggestions for your chart flops of 2000, now we look at the next year, 2001. What songs do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year.

I will nominate something in a little while that I personally enjoyed in 2001, but for now, it’s over to you. ^_^

This missed the top 40 by a few spots aww:

also this only made #51 in 2001 but did well in BJSC years later:

Remember this one on Kerrang! among other places and it got to #47 here whilst a top 10 in US (#7). Great rock track.

Lots of chillout music released and in the lower reaches of the chart around 2001, including this beauty from Zero 7 which peaked at #47 in November;

Category is: songs I heard everywhere that the UK wouldn’t touch with a 30 foot pole

This is one of the most milquetoast songs ever and yet this never charted in the UK? It’s giving strong Blue/Westlife vibes which is strange bc the song is actually good:

This did better in the U.S. than “American Woman” btw 😶

I was frothing at the mouth to talk about how underrated Jessica Simpson is but y’all seemed to do well with her so I’m plugging in a song that barely anyone remembers:

Y’all had two tries to make this a hit in the UK and failed BOTH TIMES-

It took Pop Smoke for this song to get recognition in the UK charts

*looks at chart stats on Wiki* 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 y’all are beyond help.

Ellie Campbell - Don't Want You Back

I love this!

I've always quite liked Drive by Incubus which only just scraped in at #40 for a week.

From one of my favourite ever girlband albums, a No.1 in Australia from the Popstars winners there, it stiffed at No.45 here ffs.

This is a seriously gorgeous track from Cardigans' singer Nina Persson's side project, it got to No.46 here.

Loved these two, I think they supported bands like Steps and Westlife on tour. Heaven and Hell reached No.81 and Kickback sadly failed to chart.

This was a country girl band who tried a few times but never got far, these got to No.52 and No.83 in 2001:

Roots Manuva - Witness (1 Hope) is one of the greatest songs of the decade - felt like it was huge for me as it was a real student anthem when I was at uni!

2001 was also the year we heard about the musical talent of Eva Cassidy, who has a posthumous #42 single in April with the famous piece of music Over The Rainbow;

Wardy brought this one to my attention too. Was surprised it only charted at 97 considering how much of a chart force they were at the time!
