Posted February 11, 20241 yr Thank you for all the suggestions for your chart flops of 2000, now we look at the next year, 2001. What songs do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year. I will nominate something in a little while that I personally enjoyed in 2001, but for now, it’s over to you. ^_^
February 11, 20241 yr This missed the top 40 by a few spots aww: _m2NyS3IDjE also this only made #51 in 2001 but did well in BJSC years later: uhB2qOSId4A

February 11, 20241 yr Author Lots of chillout music released and in the lower reaches of the chart around 2001, including this beauty from Zero 7 which peaked at #47 in November; V1zrEGsj234
February 11, 20241 yr Category is: songs I heard everywhere that the UK wouldn’t touch with a 30 foot pole This is one of the most milquetoast songs ever and yet this never charted in the UK? It’s giving strong Blue/Westlife vibes which is strange bc the song is actually good: NZkM_nOJ3d4 This did better in the U.S. than “American Woman” btw 😶 eW2qlKa6oHw I was frothing at the mouth to talk about how underrated Jessica Simpson is but y’all seemed to do well with her so I’m plugging in a song that barely anyone remembers: arTBQemJtoY Y’all had two tries to make this a hit in the UK and failed BOTH TIMES- lMclGDkhDn0 It took Pop Smoke for this song to get recognition in the UK charts U_90XNCBatY *looks at chart stats on Wiki* 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 y’all are beyond help. 0mYBSayCsH0

February 17, 20241 yr nF7yuNg_zWE?si=MfkNUxZqvQfRzaVR Second single from Sade's fifth album in 2001 and only reached 59!
February 17, 20241 yr From one of my favourite ever girlband albums, a No.1 in Australia from the Popstars winners there, it stiffed at No.45 here ffs. nPnZ9SLb2EM This is a seriously gorgeous track from Cardigans' singer Nina Persson's side project, it got to No.46 here. K5ZuFGdYF6s Loved these two, I think they supported bands like Steps and Westlife on tour. Heaven and Hell reached No.81 and Kickback sadly failed to chart. U3H-gJPuDyU UC8pXMpIVPQ This was a country girl band who tried a few times but never got far, these got to No.52 and No.83 in 2001: r-05wtjA2YI oKFqwtlZCDQ Edited February 17, 20241 yr by gooddelta
February 17, 20241 yr I forget Poison was released a year later in the UK, i remember it missing the top 40 though.
February 17, 20241 yr Roots Manuva - Witness (1 Hope) is one of the greatest songs of the decade - felt like it was huge for me as it was a real student anthem when I was at uni!
February 17, 20241 yr Author 2001 was also the year we heard about the musical talent of Eva Cassidy, who has a posthumous #42 single in April with the famous piece of music Over The Rainbow; 2rd8VktT8xY
February 17, 20241 yr Kept thinking that did make the top 40 and was just reissued in 2001. Shame it didn't make it in </3
February 17, 20241 yr Wardy brought this one to my attention too. Was surprised it only charted at 97 considering how much of a chart force they were at the time! L93-7vRfxNs?si=3WM7fZhZKohZrd1l
