Voting has now closed so let's get on with the results! Thanks to those of you who voted (and one of me). Firstly let's get out of the way all of the tracks that somehow made it past the qualifier poll but didn't get much support when it came to actual voting...

#51. Meghan Trainor - Mother

UK chart run: 42-27-27-{22}-23-34-39-41-59->9

Points: 05

The most controversial song here by some way, its lovers outweighed by its haters here who subtracted 18 points from the song's score to push it to dead last. It was put out as the follow-up to #2 hit 'Made You Look'.

#50. Lyrical Lemonade with Jack Harlow & Dave - Stop Giving Me Advice

UK chart run: {29}-47-45R(2)-54-74->5

Points: 08

A collab between Jack Harlow who had just had a big #1 hit along with the biggest name in British rap music was always going to get some initial interest although it ended up getting lost in Christmas.

#49. Sam Smith feat. Calvin Harris & Jessie Reyez - I'm Not Here To Make Friends

UK chart run: {23}-25-33-33-49-55->6

Points: 21

Following up the huge #1 hit 'Unholy' proved to be quite the challenge for Sam Smith and this ended up performing very mid despite being launched with the album and having a viral music video.

#48. Jack Black - Peaches

UK chart run: 47-{28}-32-37-48->5

Points: 21

Released as part of the soundtrack to the Super Mario movie, the film was a huge success but this only lasted a month in the chart before the joke evidently got old (although I despair at it having even gone top 40).

#47. Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion - Bongos

UK chart run: {35}-47->2

Points: 22

An attempt was made to re-create 'WAP' but that was never going to happen with this and it was lucky to even go top 40 in the end.

#46. Oliver Anthony Music - Rich Men North of Richmond

UK chart run: 64-{23}-23-24-39-49-60-60-57-72->10

Points: 22

A US #1 hit and one of the more controversial songs of the year, it managed a month in the top 40 even with its lyrics being very centred to American politics. It placed highly in the Buzzjack hate chart but didn't attract quite so many negative points here as 'Mother'.

#45. Zayn - Love Like This

UK chart run: {36}-66-72->3

Points: 27

Somehow Zayn is still able to get top 40 hits although this one left as quickly as it arrived.

#44. Sam Ryder - Mountain

UK chart run: {35}->1

Points: 31

Assisted by an appearance at Eurovision which was the most watched contest in years thanks to it being hosted at home.

#43. Campbell & Alcemist - Would You (Go To Bed With Me?)

UK chart run: 75-48-45-35-33-36-{29}-35-39-56-55R(5)-60-67-67-70-52->16

Points: 36

A remake of a 90s dance hit because of course that's how to get a hit these days, it couldn't make it quite as far up the chart as the original.

#42. Beabadoobee - Glue Song

UK chart run: {38}-52-56->3

Points: 45

An unexpected second chart appearance for Bea after she featured on the Powfu song a few years ago thanks to some TikTok hype.

#41. Hozier - Eat Your Young

UK chart run: {22}-25-34-41-47-63->6

Points: 47

People were awaiting a Hozier comeback enough for this to spend a couple of weeks top 40 then. Although clearly it wasn't enough of a 'Take Me To Church' rip-off for people's liking so they took David Kushner to #2 shortly afterwards.

How some of these were voted through the qualifier ahead of Never Felt So Alone is incomprehensible to me 😅

Mother definitely finishing in its deserved position. Peaches way too low though, robbed!

The hate for Mother was a bit weird I thought, no worse than your average run of the mill pop song.
The hate for Mother was a bit weird I thought, no worse than your average run of the mill pop song.

It was the way it peed all over one of the greatest 50s hits, Mr Sandman.

I love Bongos so much, in spite of knowing full well that it's trash and a mess of a song :lol:

Same! Such a bop and I elevate when it rarely comes on a night out lmao.

Oops! Thought I’d voted, and I now realise that I only voted in the first round. Poo.

I get why it's hated but I didn't mind 'Mother'.

'Mountains' is fine enough as well. 'Eat Your Young' should be a little bit higher and am surprised it's not tbh!

#40. Lil Uzi Vert - Just Wanna Rock

UK chart run: 64-58-52-50-44-58-38R(5)-32-51-56-51-49-41-32-{30}-31->16

Points: 52

One of the worst of the big rap hits of recent times but it seems some of you got some enjoyment out of it.

#39. Suicidal-Idol - Ecstacy

UK chart run: 65-52-33-{26}-30-32-40-39->8

Points: 52

Another mess of a song that ought not to have been a hit but anyway.

#38. The Rolling Stones - Angry

UK chart run: {34}-73R(6)->2

Points: 54

So we had the Stones come back this year rollier than ever. Becoming their first top 40 hit since 2005!

#37. Leigh-Anne feat. Ayra Starr - My Love

UK chart run: {28}-69->2

Points: 59

The second single from Leigh-Anne and with no sign of a third on the way at the moment after its poor chart performance, some of us did prefer it over 'Don't Say Love' but that did better in the top 20 poll.

#36. Tyler, the Creator - Dogtooth

UK chart run: {39}-74->2

Points: 60

Put out as part of the re-release of his last album this managed to sneak in the chart before quickly being overtook by an older song of his that'll appear higher up here.

#35. Ice Spice - Princess Diana

UK chart run: {22}-27-29-39-46-64-74->7

Points: 62

Charted here thanks to a Nicki Minaj remix becoming her first credited hit after assisting PinkPantheress to a #2 smash.

#34. Jazzy - Feel It

UK chart run: 66-45-45-{35}-37-43-50-45->8

Points: 62

Following from a big smash in 'Giving Me' this ended up stalling out at the bottom of the top 40 though not really to anyone's surprise.

#33. Morgan Wallen - Last Night

UK chart run: 72-75-66-59-35-31-{28}-31-32-31-32-37-41-52-50->15

Points: 63

The biggest hit of the year in the US it managed to be a sizeable crossover here too and the first hit for Morgan.

#32. Luke Combs - Fast Car

UK chart run: 70-54-58-56-68-74-64R(10)-55-51-48-45-39-34-34-{30}-30-36-40->18

Points: 63

Another big country song now this one of course a cover of Tracey Chapman who he duetted with at the Grammys.

#31. Miley Cyrus - Jaded

UK chart run: {27}-35-56-71->4

Points: 64

Following on from 'Flowers' was no easy task for Miley and so this ended up not really doing anything beyond an initial run as an album track.

#30. Flo feat. Missy Elliott - Fly Girl

UK chart run: {38}-42-55-64->4

Points: 67

The industry tried to push Flo as the next big girl group following Little Mix's hiatus however all they could get out of this was a very minor top 40 placement.

#29. Sabrina Carpenter - Nonsense

UK chart run: 69-{32}-58-64->4

Points: 71

A pop singer the industry have been trying very hard to make a thing although this only managed a week in the top 40 thanks to Spotify autoplay shenanigans.

#28. Jax Jones & D.O.D feat. Ina Wroldsen & The Blackout Crew - Won't Forget You

UK chart run: {28}-29-41-57-42R(5)-46-70->7

Points: 71

A Jax Jones track that looked to be a complete flop until a remix with The Blackout Crew gave it some level of hype to be a minor hit before getting lost in Christmas.

#27. D4VD - Here with Me

UK chart run: 67-48-54-51-46-40-42-39-{34}->9

Points: 72

A second hit for D'fourvid seemed unlikely but he lucked on the TikTok algorithm again clearly.

#26. Caity Baser - Pretty Boys

UK chart run: 35-{26}-36-36-30-29-40-42-52-59->10

Points: 72

Another industry-driven viral hit which was one of my personal least favourites of the year, she's yet to have a second anyway.

#25. Jennie - You & Me

UK chart run: {39}->1

Points: 75

Jennie managed to leverage enough of the Blackpink fanbase to give her a solo 'hit' although it dropped out the entire chart the following week.

#24. Becky Hill & Lewis Thompson - Side Effects

UK chart run: 53-40-40-{35}-35-41-41-44-40-44-50-55->12

Points: 75

A fairly standard Becky Hill track here and unsurprisingly didn't become one of her bigger hits though didn't do too badly to remain stable around the bottom of the top 40 for 2 months.

#23. Bring Me The Horizon - Lost

UK chart run: {29}-60->2

Points: 76

Another fanbase driven 'hit' now and one I can't recall how it sounded as Linkin Park also charted with a song of the same title this year.

#22. Anotr & Abel Balder - Relax My Eyes

UK chart run: 71-69-60R(2)-62-68-63-65-58-54-43-45-41-37-35-38-38-39-40-36-39-39-{33}-45-55->24

Points: 83

A long-running surprise hit now being more of a 'classic house' track than most dance hits having crossed over from the clubs to the charts.

#21. Chase & Status feat. Stefflon Don - Selecta

UK chart run: {27}-35-65->3

Points: 83

A big year for Chase & Status was completed by this track released alongside the album although it soon got lost in Christmas and couldn't regain any momentum afterwards.

#20. Troye Sivan - Got Me Started

UK chart run: 56-{34}-50-36-47->5

Points: 83

The first of two songs here for Troye Sivan, this was assisted into the chart by a sample of meme song 'Shooting Stars'

#19. Blink-182 - One More Time

UK chart run: {28}-67-70-75-42-75->6

Points: 85

Leading their latest album which saw the return of their original vocalist and with the song about him making up with the band it managed some more longevity than the track they threw out a year prior.

#18. Jungle - Back On 74

UK chart run: 73-69-60-41-36-30-{25}-25-32-33->10

Points: 86

A belated first top 40 hit for indie duo Jungle which was assisted into the chart by a viral music video.

#17. Selena Gomez - Single Soon

UK chart run: {21}-29-38-48-67->5

Points: 87

A seemingly loose single release thrown out by Selena which ended up being only a middling hit. It followed her big feature on 'Calm Down' so didn't do as well as expected.

#16. Doja Cat - Attention

UK chart run: {37}-58->2

Points: 89

An unexpected flop performance from Doja Cat here for the lead of her new album although she quickly managed to save her career with its follow-up going to #1.

#15. Ayra Starr - Rush

UK chart run: 58-44-36-29-28-{24}-26-28-24-27-35-33-32-37-40-41-43-46-49-52-54-54->22

Points: 97

The breakout hit here for Nigerian afrobeats star Ayra, although didn't quite manage to take off quite as much as those from Libianca and Rema it spent a good while in the chart anyway.

#14. Freya Ridings - Weekends

UK chart run: {31}-51-66-74->4

Points: 101

The comeback release of Freya Ridings which was quite lucky to even go top 40 although I'm glad it did. The album ended up being a bit of an underperformance so likely to be her last hit now.

#13. Doja Cat - Agora Hills

UK chart run: 29-35-42-40-28-26-{23}-24-23-31-55-57-29R(3)-36-41-48-52-57->18

Points: 103

Another fairly sizeable hit for Doja having followed up 'Paint' although it doesn't do that much better here than 'Attention'.

#12. Jonas Brothers - Waffle House

UK chart run: 46-49-42-42-37-36-33-30-{22}-26-26-28-66-75->14

Points: 104

Seemingly the JoBros are limited to middling top 25 hits this decade with this now being the third of those.

#11. Kanye West feat. Pusha T - Runaway

UK chart run: 56-56-34R(678)-37-53-56-54-{23}R(2)-31-37-40-43-35->13

Points: 106

Originally from his acclaimed 2010 album 'Runaway' managed a second wave of virality last year to get a belated top 40 peak. He'll now have (at least) three songs competing in the next 'non-top 10' poll though it's unlikely any of those will do this well.

Top 10 A-Z:

Beyoncé - America Has A Problem

Bizarrap & Shakira - Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53

Lady Gaga - Bloody Mary

Noah Kahan - Dial Drunk

Raye - Flip a Switch

Sub Focus & Dimension - Ready To Fly

Tom Odell - Black Friday

Troye Sivan - Rush

Tyler, the Creator feat. Kali Uchis - See You Again

Zara Larsson - Can't Tame Her

Rush deserved top 10! One of my favourite songs from last year.

Rooting for Raye or Zara but think Troye will win which is also fine.

My fave (Blink) and, excluding Mother, my least faves (Jungle, Doja Cat) all gone there. Black Friday is the only song of the top 10 that I particularly enjoy, so hope that wins.

#10. Beyoncé - America Has A Problem

UK chart run: {22}-26-26-44-58-72->6

Points: 106

Assisted by Kendrick Lamar providing a remix this became the 4th hit off 'Renaissance'. Beyoncé now looks likely to get a big #1 hit with her new single.

#09. Raye - Flip a Switch

UK chart run: 71-74-59-48-{35}-38-46-55->8

Points: 111

Following up from the huge #1 hit 'Escapism' this managed to scrape a top 40 placement as the other clear choice off her album.

#08. Bizarrap & Shakira - Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53

UK chart run: {31}-39-39-61->4

Points: 120

Putting Shakira back in the top 40 after 9 years it went viral for lyrics dissing her ex husband even if entirely in Spanish.

#07. Tom Odell - Black Friday

UK chart run: {21}-22-48-54-70-68-54-52-63-71-59R(5)-62-31-42-47-60->16

Points: 129

An unlikely viral hit for Tom Odell being a new song from him and first top 40 hit in 7 years aside from the 'Another Love' resurgence.

#06. Noah Kahan - Dial Drunk

UK chart run: 45-62-67-{32}R(4)-43-44-46->7

Points: 132

A seemingly random TikTok boosted viral hit at first, although Noah quickly proved himself as having genuine artist popularity and its follow-up became one of the biggest #1s of recent memory.

#05. Tyler, the Creator feat. Kali Uchis - See You Again

UK chart run: 36-27-{21}-26-31-39-44-56->8

Points: 136

A years old Tyler song outdid everything from his latest album because that’s the way the world works now though it seems a lot of you were very much into it. The song also brought Kali Uchis into the top 40 finally after she had a viral hit peak at the dreaded 41 spot.

#04. Lady Gaga - Bloody Mary

UK chart run: 57-56-74-{22}-28-32-33-42->8

Points: 155

A years old Lady Gaga song… but it was great to see this get a resurgence and as a song I hadn’t thought about for a decade it was quite fresh to me anyway. Let’s hope we do get some actual new music from her this year.

#03. Sub Focus & Dimension - Ready To Fly

UK chart run: 52-43-48-40-35-35-34-{29}-32-33->10

Points: 160

In a great year for drum and bass we managed to get Sub focus back on the chart with this. Really it ought to have been a bigger hit but there we go. Dimension as another big name in the genre also finally got a top 40 after his previous work with Sub Focus fell short.

#02. Zara Larsson - Can't Tame Her

UK chart run: 59-55-38-36-27-{25}-29-30-26-30-30-38-38-43-53-51->16

Points: 192

Zara proved this year that she is still sticking around as a pop star after some wrote her off. Although her album wasn’t particularly big it managed two reasonably sized hits. This being the first of those, it got Buzzjack back on board.

#01. Troye Sivan - Rush

UK chart run: 22-29-37-35-33-28-33-22-{21}-26-26-23-34-27-37-47-50->17

Points: 226

However the winning song here comes from Troye who led his latest album with this. Assisted by pre release vitality it managed greater stability than any previous hit of his though never quite managed a top 20 position. His later hit also did very well in the top 20 hit poll so a very good year for him with Buzzjack and a deserved win here.
