Beyoncé now up to #2 on Amazon (Prime Chart). Coming for #1!

Come on Bey

'TEXAS HOLD 'EM' is literally the only thing I am hearing on Tik Tok right now (largely due to UMG but also because it seems to have a 'CUFF IT' style viral fan dance video attached to it - it's such a fun dance too). When was the last country number 1?

Kind of depends how liberal your definition of country is - arguably 'Old Town Road' could count and if not then 'Shallow' not long before that although they're both definitely a mix with other genres. Before that there were a couple of country flavoured dance #1s ('Are You With Me' and 'Wake Me Up', arguably 'Lovers On The Sun' as well maybe). If you don't count any of those then... either Joe McElderry's version of 'The Climb' or the Comic Relief version of 'Islands In The Stream'?
On Spotify Hozier has been uncredited on Northern Attitude and the two versions have been combined with it up to #61.

Interestingly Dial Drunk is still showing up as just the Post Malone version so no idea why they’ve done that

Something a bit weird going on with the combining of the duet versions - 'Dial Drunk', 'She Calls Me Back' and 'Homesick' seem to currently be combined as they show the same total for each version on the album, the rest have different totals for each version but unlike the others the duet version of 'Northern Attitude' is actually showing a higher number than the solo version which surely can't be right (especially as it definitely appears from the update that they are actually combined at the moment too).

I would say "Stick Season" is closer to country than "Shallow". I think we'll start seeing more and more country in the charts in future as seen in the US a lot of those who would typically listen to country music via radio and such have been moving more and more into streaming.

Amazon in particular has quite a bit of country music through its 1000+ long chart we can see.

Wikipedia lists country as a genre for 'Shallow' but not for 'Stick Season' :teresa:

I think Noah does sometimes get lumped in with the country scene so maybe should have mentioned him too lol but he's pretty clearly folk to me and not country at all.

Entirely unrelated: Yeat has just added a new song to his album featuring Drake. Odd choice to not have that on the album straight away, will probably get less attention now.

based on the song “quality” of IDGAF that’s probably for the best…

I've always found 'Stick Season' more folk than country, but it is arguably quite a blurred line.
Texas Hold ‘Em is a far better replacement #1 than it looked like we were going to get, stay ahead Bey!

There’s always something that comes along these days so it’s a rising song which is good imo!

Wikipedia has the original "Islands in the Stream" as soft rock and the 2009 comic relief version as country/comedy even though I would say the original has much more of a country feel (particularly with Dolly/Kenny's vocals).

Country does have a large folk influence. It's a shame country music hasn't done better in the UK charts, although it does seem as though it is starting to do better in recent years. Maybe Beyoncé will help highlight and improve the genres' success globally with the release of her album.

Morgan Wallen- Last Night and Luke Combs-Fast Car were big long running top 10 hits in English speaking countries like Australia, Canada and Ireland but not so much in the UK. Last Night was the biggest hit of last year in the US and was also number 1 in Australia and Canada.

Add I Remember Everything to that list too
Yeah I’ve been keeping an eye on the Australian Spotify (as I think it’ll be similar to what we experience here) and it’s been pretty crazy!

Today she has 3 songs top 10 (CS at #1, lover! & anti hero), 11 songs top 25, 17 top 50, 36 top 100 and 49 top 200!! The slayage :cheeseblock: the entire setlist is charting + two repeat TV songs + one surprise song + three not on the setlist.

Also Cruel Summer up 30k week-on-week here on Friday, here for another week of it avoiding a decline!!

Incredible numbers. Taylor mania has well and truly hit Melbourne and Australia. Sydney is next week so we could see it staggered across two weeks as well.

If 'Islands in the stream' cover doesn't count do we have to go back to 2004 with Nelly/Tim McGraw 'Over and Over' for the last "pure" country no.1 or if that's not counted because it's country/rap, Ronan Keating's cover of Garth Brooks' 'If tomorrow never comes' back in 2002?

I really want Beyonce to clinch this #1. Loving the tune more and more each day!
