Welcome to Week 7! :bronze: :silver: :gold:

Results from Week 6

Another close race in the best poll was settled as ABBA - Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight) pulled clear with 9 votes, after ABBA just missed out the previous week.

David Essex - Oh What A Circus topped the worst poll - a narrative song from the musical Evita to the same tune as 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina'. It's not that bad is it? 6 of you thought so.

Best poll winners

week 1: Danny And The Juniors - At The Hop

week 2: Dusty Springfield - I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself

week 3: Otis Redding - (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay

week 4: David Bowie - Life On Mars?

week 5: David Bowie - Sound And Vision

week 6: ABBA - Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight)

A very strong field in the best poll, but I restricted my vote to 4: Madness, Soft Cell, Tears For Fears and 'Nobody's Diary' - although The Human League, OMD, 'Don't Go' and Toto weren't far off.

Dennis Waterman got my vote in the worst poll, not sure if the song was as cringe as the video but I recall it wasn't great.

Tough selection but went with Stop the Cavalry, Under Your Thumb (my favourite discovery <3), One of Us, Don't Go, Africa and Beat It.

Aww I didn't think Capstick Comes Home was worthy of the worst list, it was...unique if nothing else x Easy win for Starmaker there, so much of a snoozefest that I didn't even remember we'd already had it at the albums sessions.

Baggy Trousers, Stop The Cavalry, Don't Go & Beat It for the best.

Starmarker the worst. Capstick didn't deserve this list you fiends, it's got charm.

ABBA

Soft Cell

Godley And Creme

Tears For Fears

Jona Lewie

Toto

6 way tie oops

Went for both Julio and The Kids From Fame in the end

Soft Cell for best and Julio for worst

David Essex only a key track from one of the best musicals  The latin intro alone (I dont speak latin but I know every word here without having a clue what they mean) means it should be in the Best category. Yes I have seen David live hidden amongst an audience of women of a certain age

I voted for all of the Best except the last 3, hoping to stem the inevitable votes for Toto, overplayed much. My number ones of the time? OMD, Godley & Creme & Abba, but the others are almost as good.

Capstick's charm wears off very quickly when you have to hear it for weeks on end, trust me. As does Dennis waterman's TV theme, so annoying, but stuck with capstick.

Was meaning to join last week as a lot of fab 80's stuff I can see.

Voted for my love/liked;

Baggy Trousers (not a big essential but it's fun x)

Stop The Cavalry

Love Action (I Believe In Love)

Souvenir

Say Hello Wave Goodbye

Don't Go

Mad World

Africa

and last but is my top fave - Beat It

(Also would have voted for Culture Club, The Beat, PhD, Belle Stars and also perhaps David and Bing from what I know and like.)

The Kids From Fame for worst.

Voted for my top five:

ABBA - One of Us

Godley and Creme - Under Your Thumb

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Souvenir

Tears For Fears - Mad World

Yazoo - Don't Go

Then 'Starmaker' for worst

I love O What A Circus as well. It is right at the start of Evita, just after her death is announced in a cinema. David Essex is playing a cynical Che Guevara asking why there is so much fuss about "the death of an actress", setting up the whole musical which explains the fuss. As this song is at the start of the musical it is, therefore, arguable that Don't Cry For Mer Argentina is set to the same tune as O What A Circus
