Went for:

Queen

Bronski

Cyndi

Tina

Giorgio & Phil

Nik

Nothing too terrible but chose Ashford And Simpson for worst

Voted for my top 3 this week:

Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy

Giorgio Moroder & Philip Oakey - Together In Electric Dreams

Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes

picked Rod for worst but nothing was thaaaat bad this week

Gone with that great four in a row of Robert De Niro's Waiting, I Want to Break Free, Dancing with Tears in My Eyes & Smalltown Boy, plus The Riddle and Together in Electric Dreams (good selection but that still wins by a mile x)

Gone for UB40 for worst, but most of them are pretty inoffensive. I rather like Solid, don't think it deserves to be there x

Solid definitely has no place on that worst list… it’s definitely dated but far from the worst of 80s US soul music.

Giorgio & Phil, Bronski Beat and the Nanas for best

all of these tracks are great, including the worst selection, I mean Solid is acknowledged classic radio staple, UB40's is one of their very best, Shaky's is decent for him, Rod's is one of his best 80's tracks, Quo's ditto. So that just leaves Jimmy Nail who got my vote for the heinous crime of getting the actual lyrics wrong.

In terms of best, I'm not too fussed who wins, they're all great records, so I went with my personal chart-toppers Dear Prudence and Lean On Me, a touch above the rest for me.

agree Solid is a goodie!!!

Madonna and Ultravox the best, Jimmy Nail the only one it's not that great

poor Madonna and her unappreciated gems of the 80s :) I always get the impression people in this forum are too young and many only experienced Madonna from the 90s on, that's why her 80s output is unappreciated

It's shaping up to be 'Smalltown Boy' vs TIED at the top of the best poll - voted for both of those plus U2, Ultravox and Red Box.

Jimmy Nail for worst, I think he's said himself that he didn't think it a great cover. I had to remind myself how the Rod and Shaky ones sounded and both are OK, hope neither win by default / name alone.

I genuinely don’t think that’s the case. Much of her 80s material is well loved, it’s just Like a Virgin isn’t necessarily one of the songs that is popular. I love Madonna from most decades, but LaV wouldn’t even make my top 50 of hers even if commercially it is one of her most successful.

Like A Virgin is fine, I wouldnt call it amongst my top Madonna tracks either, but Ive seen her a few times in concert and she always re-invents it style-wise. I recall the one on the bed writhing about in a sultry Marlene Dietrich wannabe vibe. Always thought she should have put a question mark at the end though, inviting a million replies.... :teresa:
Dancing With Tears in My Eyes is so underrated.

Voted for Bananarama, Queen. Bronski Beat, Cyndi, Tina, U2, Giorgio and Phil, Nik Kershaw and Madonna. The other three were fine too but not quite enough to vote for.

Shaky is my fave from the worst group, pretty catchy track. UB40 is good in parts but does drag on a bit too much, 'Solid' is decent too and Status Quo whilst nothing amazing is okay as well. Rod's not one of his best but can take or leave really. Voted for Jimmy though, kinda went over my head that.

My top 2 here are pretty easy ('Together In Electric Dreams' and 'The Riddle') but found it harder to decide on a third - I went with 'Smalltown Boy' but now wish I hadn't because 'Together In Electric Dreams' would be tied for the lead if I'd gone for something else :teresa:

Rod for worst and also not sure why 'Solid' is on there x

I don’t think there was anything that would be vying to win the worst poll that I left out was there? It was a very Solid week so to speak.

how did that Paul McCartney Frog song miss the worst list actually?

as it is I voted Rod for worst and Bronski Beat/Giorgo Moroder for best
