May 3, 20241 yr Think 'Nasty' killed her career off. That song wasn't a good recipe for continued success.
May 3, 20241 yr Think 'Nasty' killed her career off. That song wasn't a good recipe for continued success. In fairness I think her career was already pretty dead in the water before then. She didn't have a hope by 2014.
May 4, 20241 yr Daniel Bedingfield. Massive beginning to his career. Several #1’s. Then ‘Nothing Hurts Like Love’ was a damp squib of a return song and killed all hopes of him ever recovering. Also, similarly, Natasha Bedingfield. The moment she focussed on the US and it seemed like she had forgotten about her home Country, we seemed to abandon her.
May 4, 20241 yr I still maintain that 'I Wanna Have Your Babies' is one of the ultimate examples of a career-killing single in pop music. Although maybe her time has come to have a resurgence?
May 4, 20241 yr Sinead Quinn (deserved to reach a level of Amy Macdonald) Charlotte Church Little Boots Diana Vickers
May 4, 20241 yr I still maintain that 'I Wanna Have Your Babies' is one of the ultimate examples of a career-killing single in pop music. Although maybe her time has come to have a resurgence? Definitely. No one wanted to be playing that in public  if they had just pushed Pocketful of Sunshine in the UK at the time it may have saved her career for another few years at least. :( Sandi Thom is another one who had a big first era (well a #1 single and #1 album at least) then barely made a dent with follow-up releases.
May 4, 20241 yr Quite a few from 2006 actually - Sandi, Orson, Gnarls Barkley, Cascada (their music could’ve easily fit into 2011 landscape but they failed to have another hit after getting a #1 single).
May 6, 20241 yr Just a friendly reminder in case you didn't realise, only 2000 up to 2015 (even up to 2019 is okay to some degree) but no 2020's as it's a throwback forum of sorts! Corinne Bailey Rae would count as another for me here!
May 6, 20241 yr Most of the so-called 'landfill indie' crowd didn't have much chart success beyond the end of the 00s decade.
May 6, 20241 yr Fair enough! When does 2020 officially become a "throwback" year... 2025? Probably towards like the end of the 2020s haha. Think us mods need to add to the forum description so it's clear lol.
June 24, 20241 yr Cher Lloyd springs to mind. Hyped to be the biggest thing to come out of the X Factor and even bigger than Cheryl yet her debut album sold modestly and not much after (granted she made waves in the US). sdbyG2MrBHk
June 24, 20241 yr Sinead Quinn (deserved to reach a level of Amy Macdonald) Obsessed with how random this comparison is. Sinead came a hell of a lot closer to reaching #1 than Amy ever did.
June 24, 20241 yr Obsessed with how random this comparison is. Sinead came a hell of a lot closer to reaching #1 than Amy ever did. Although on the other hand, when you compare a 3x platinum album to one which probably didn't even sell 10,000 copies... :P
June 25, 20241 yr Missed this at the time.. surely the biggest one is Duffy? That Diet Coke advert ruined her career. Think people forget her and Adele broke through at the same time and Duffy was the one who looked to be having the bigger career trajectory! Crazy stuff. As for some other shouts in here.. think they are just natural cycles in music which happens. Someone new comes along and the public have moved on.
