July 5, 2024Jul 5 Sale of the Century is a great Britpop single, such a shame Sleeper never managed a bigger hit as most of the singles from their first two albums were really catchy. Klubbhopping is my other pick from the new ones, that was a great club record
July 5, 2024Jul 5 Echoing the love for The Box and A Design for Life. Two of my favorite pieces of music .
July 5, 2024Jul 5 Klubbhopping is a very minimalist and unpoppy dance track to make top 10. Not one of my favourite 90s dance hits. The vocal style seems to have influenced of my favorite top 10 dance hits of 1996. The Busta Rhymes track is interesting too. Edited July 5, 2024Jul 5 by TheSnake
July 5, 2024Jul 5 TOTP were always extremely generous with their sales flashes, looks like Fast Love sold about half of what the graphic on screen suggested. I know sales were revised down later, but surely they were still overexaggerating the stated figure at the time. Impressive staying power for Return of the Mack and Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit, and interesting to see another climber emerge in the top 20 in Nobody Knows. The awful Man U record with a very young Beckham on it! Wasn't into the Bluetones or Busta records myself either, or PSB particularly on this occasion. Sleeper and Blur were definitely the debuts of the week, great Britpop songs.

I'm using the sales given at the time so I don't think it's a matter of revising down. More likely they got them from the record company who beefed it up to make the act look more popular or gave them shipment figures
July 6, 2024Jul 6 Fast Love was great, much better than the snoozefest Jesus to a Child Before was a poor return for PSB standards :/
July 6, 2024Jul 6 really liked Blur and Bluetones singles also in this week at #15 was the comeback single from the Cure, the 13th. That's a weird one, but I really liked it. But I recall the fanbase hating it, and I guess that's why it didn't do that well, also the parent album. kQB1OcvmbUI
July 19, 2024Jul 19 Well Well Well !! This is a surprise. We have just had the provisional schedule for Friday 9th August and there will be a 1996 double bill from 7pm !!! This is the provisional schedule and will be officially confirmed next week.
July 24, 2024Jul 24 The one Gina G finally got to No.1 :( I wish they’d just edit performances that can’t be shown out. Fair enough don’t show him, having read up on him, but don’t scrap the whole thing.

July 25, 2024Jul 25 Author Argh! Yeah this sucks :( Why is John Alford being skipped? What did I miss? Drugs back in the 90s but currently facing charges of sex offences.
July 25, 2024Jul 25 He certainly seems like a pleasant chap from everything I've read about him over the years... But yeah, why can't they just edit out his performance? I mean, I'd understand if he was the presenter but that should be simple? :???:
August 8, 2024Aug 8 Author 18TH MAY Well it was another interesting week in the charts with the expected three way tussle emerging and just 4,000 copies separated all the top 3 though sales are off for each single. The headline is that George Michael’s “Fastlove” clings on for a third week and interestingly none of George’s 11 appearances at No 1 have lasted 4 weeks and this will almost certainly not be breaking the trend especially with album “Older” out this week. Its victory over Gina G at No 2 was just 285 copies in the end with the Michael single selling 56,000- that’s the lowest tally for a No 1 single since Take That’s “Never Forget” last August. With a new CD version out this week coupled with Eurovision this coming Saturday it would take a brave man not to predict a sales increase for “Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit” and a No 1 spot in 7 days. SHAQlFq6TFg Mark Morrison completes the top 3 falling 2-3 (52,000) but has total sales of 621,000 and is now the 5th biggest seller of the year. I can’t recall a time when two different club Football teams scored top 10 singles simultaneously (honourable mention to the national teams of England and Scotland who were both top 10 in May 1982) but as Manchester United win the FA cup last Saturday and hold at No 6 (33,000) it is their defeated opponents Liverpool who get the bigger hit. “Pass And Move (It’s The Liverpool Groove)” smashes in at No 4 (43,000). It officially credits The Bootroom Boys who are actually all members of dance act Apollo 440, only “Anfield Rap” has peaked higher from the team. csN1sW85Z0o DJ Jake Williams is back under the moniker JX, new single “There’s Nothing I Won’t Do” emerges from clubland and enters at No 7 (32,000) to become his second top 10 single. It contains a sample from Taana Gardner’s “Heartbeat” (1981) which was also used in sampled for Ini Kamoze’s “Here Comes The Hotstepper”. hPrUd1ZbOrs Treading a path to fame via US College radio, The Smashing Pumpkins have already scored 4 top 40 singles but now a fifth and biggest so far in “Tonight Tonight” which is new at No 8 (28,000). Lead singer Billy Corgan has described the song as a homage to the group Cheap Trick and lyrically describes an abusive childhood that he escaped. D7o_SXztIVw A recent No 2 hit in the US (stopped by Celine Dion) “Nobody Knows” is starting to make waves here having moved 23-19-10 so far selling 23,000 in its latest frame. Rich was given a telephone audition with LA Reid and wife Pebbles and impressed them so much he was hired as a writer for Laface Records, he now gets a shot in the limelight himself and it seems that with radio taking the song to its heart this may continue to rise. ELqqjY-knno It’s all over for Suggs Featuring Louchie Lou & Michie One who relent 4-5 (41,000) and Blur who dive 5-9 (26,000). 1- FASTLOVE- George Michael (56,000) 2- OOH AAH JUST A LITTLE BIT- Gina G (55,715) 3- RETURN OF THE MACK- Mark Morrison (52,000) 4- PASS AND MOVE (IT’S THE LIVERPOOL GROOVE)- Liverpool FC & Bootroom Boyz (43,000) 5- CECILIA- Suggs Ft Louchie Lou & Michie One (41,000) 6- MOVE MOVE MOVE (THE RED TRIBE)- Manchester United Squad (33,000) 7- THERE’S NOTHING I WON’T DO- JX (32,000) 8- TONIGHT TONIGHT- Smashing Pumpkins (28,000) 9- CHARMLESS MAN- Blur (26,000) 10- NOBODY KNOWS- Tony Rich Project (23,000)
