Because they’re not streaming artists. KOL fans don’t stream their music, they BUY it. I don’t stream music. I prefer physical products. Streaming being included in the charts has ruined sales. When streaming first got included, paid-for sales we’re at a massive high then they slowly started declining

Paid for album sales were already on a decline before streaming was added to the chart.

Not really. You had artists like Ed Sheeran selling over 100k pre-2015 and you even had compilations particularly numbered Now albums selling over 100k in a week. And as for the singles, singles were still selling 100k per week even in the second half of 2014 when streaming was first introduced

Looking pretty safe for Sabrina to overtake come Friday now and probably with a sizeable gap if she has physicals included.

Shame we aren’t getting a new #1.

???

Yes and then they continuously declined from there, that’s the whole point.

2016 I’d say was when sales started declining and as for compilations, Now 100 in 2018 was the last compilation to sell 100k or more in a week

Is Baby Lasagna not just Marko or have I missed they are non binary?

Baby Lasagne is just one guy and is not non-binary.

However, being non-binary wouldn't change a sentence structure in that way anyway. So it would still be "Nemo is Top 40" and not "Nemo are Top 40".

Week ending 24th May 2014, before streaming was added to the album chart

"Overall album sales are down 3.62% week-on-week at 1,218,965 - 14.00% below same week 2013 sales of 1,417,372, and their lowest level since sales week ending 19 August 1995 (chart dated 26 August 1995) - 978 weeks ago - when the marginally lower tally of 1,214,941 albums were sold."

That point also makes no sense when comparing Taylor and Kings of Leon as Taylor sold 150k physicals the other week so clearly she’s popular irregardless of whether it’s streaming or pure sales
I don’t know what caused As It Was to suddenly increase and because of it being under the 3 year threshold, it got automatically reset. Maybe the increase is to do with the weather

Pure sales declined harder from 2016 onwards but the warning signs were already there in 2014/15. The OCC were more proactive with adding streaming given they made the mistake of leaving it too late with downloads and resulting in abysmal sales and unrepresentative charts in 2004/5.

I hate a lot of the things that have happened to the chart as a result of streaming become the dominant form of consumption too, but it is, has been for a long time and will continue to be. Debating whether it should count towards any of the charts in 2024 is a moot point.

Its had quite a large increase in last.fm scrobbles in the last month or so, so I imagine it's something more "international" than the weather. Probably TikTok or something.

Wait, so you think streaming being included in the chart is the reason paid for sales started declining?

So the reason people stopped buying downloads is because of the chart? :???:

Are we really still arguing streaming should count in 2024??

Physical sales were on a downward trajectory from 2012/13 as streaming took over it was always going to reduce further after this. We have the best of both worlds with all formats counting!

Also I streamed the KOL album just this morning lol

Nemo on lock for top 40 then, Baby Lasagna, Olly and Joost all fighting for lower end of top 40 I guess. Hope Joost and Lasagna make it !

Who's seriously suggesting streams shouldn't count in 2024? If anything physicals are what shouldn't count as a lot of people just buy them to inflate the artists chart position, most people streaming just want to hear the tracks.

Anyway, looks like a tight race that could go either way for No 1 this week - makes a change from the usual where it's nailed on by now.

Good to see that at least one Eurovision song will make the top 40 but id like to see them all stay in as unlikely as it is, Baby Lasagna id be most happy to see stay in.

Kings of Leon doing just over 1k since the previous update suggest they will be lucky to make 20k by the end the week, im disappointed they wont be number 1 this week.
