These Walls if given a new edit could chart better than Falling Forever.

When the album was released it was the song that got the most attention outside the singles.

Yes, but that's literally only because it was pushed as the focus track.

These Walls is the song that makes most clear sense as the next single to me, whatever people think of it.

Maybe I'm biased because I love it myself but every time it gets a bit of play or promotion it reacts well on sales and streams, and radio will clearly lap it up. It has very breezy and summery production and could benefit from a video to that effect too. To squeeze a fourth hit off the album would be great and I just don't think Falling Forever would work as a single at all, even though I really like that too. But I'll happily eat my words if it is the next single and does smash.

I know These Walls had a headstart on album release week but that alone wouldn't have been enough for it to be 23 million streams ahead of the next most popular album track on Spotify.

Would love to see her release a new mix akin to her Glastobury performance and production of it, even if just for fan service and not the one to be sent to radio etc.

I think that Falling Forever would be a total flop, a bit like Hallucinate last time around which most here loved but didn't have the appeal outside of being 'buzzjack friendly'

I'd definitely pick These Walls over it in terms of chances of generating a hit (or Maria  )

That pretty much is the reason alone though. First week it did ~15 million globally and had good playlisting. Its playlist support started to dwindle. It reached a peak playlist reach of 100 million during release week which has fallen down to ~35 million currently. That's still well above any of the current album tracks. For instance "End of an Era" currently has a playlist reach of ~3.8 million and "Falling Forever" just ~1.4 million.

Playlisting plays a massive role in streams, particularly passive streams of album tracks.

I could see her team doing a split release to be honest. Both songs have grown on me (well, because of the extended versions), but I think that "Falling Forever" is too European to the American market, while "These Walls" might work better in the US.
I don't get the buzz over these walls, falling forever Is the better song.

I believe that Falling Forever could be Love Again of this era

I think they are rethinking it's release.

That would be a shame as I really think falling forever could have boosted album sales.

In the time it's taken for this indecision she could have released two singles since Illusion by now. It's a wasted opportunity and with the new releases being quite dry the next few weeks she could have claimed a new Top 40 hit.
I doubt any post-album single from this era would have set the charts alight anyway. We can just hope something goes viral on TikTok.
