Interesting to see Luke Combs performing better on Apple than Spotify, IIRC it was the other way around for his song for the Twisters soundtrack

Although his cover of Fast Car always did better on Apple

'Ain't No Love In Oklahoma' is the first Luke Combs song I've actually liked so Spotify having good taste I fear x

I'm a bit gutted that Tinashe isn't showing up in the AM charts </3 Hopefully she can enter there soon, but idk what her playlist reach is like over there and whether she's on any of the main ones that would benefit if she was higher etc..

But that's a really good Saturday hold for her! I expected a far bigger drop but then recovers etc.. So hopefully this is a good indication that she'll finally go top 100 on Spotify this week! Come on Queen get that autoplay cheque cashed in!!!

Couldn't we have had actual Kehlani's new single ('After Hours') impacting instead of this 'Kehlani' song? -_-

Just saw a twitter thread with 200k likes and thousands of comments calling out Sabrina's autoplay power. Apparently both Espresso and Please Please Please are playing in between rap playlists, 'Frank Sinatra radio' and even podcasts lol. I fear Spotify need to calm the autoplay feature down. No doubt they would have been successful anyway without it being so intense.

I saw that earlier actually - https://x.com/mazzypopstar/status/1802038561279181142?s=46 funny seeing two kind of niche topics actually be mainstream and quite widely talked about. Also some publication write an article about it. Overall I think its more autoplay playing the most popular irregardless if what you listen to than payola as such but cleay autoplay should be more tailor mode to your listening habits and this idea of payola wouldn't occur. Because espresso which is the main song people were accusing of it in the article a month ago, that is doing much better numbers NOW worldwide and in the US and its getting a lot less autoplay than it was then in the UK anyway, so the song isn't successful because of autoplay but unfortunately the way they've now designed autoplay it can give that impression. They should def fix that.

Is autoplay the reason for the increase in streams this year or is that a seperate phenomenon?

It probably contributes to making the big hits bigger at their peak but I doubt it's the whole story, because many songs that came off autoplay ages ago are still getting daily plays in the high hundreds of thousands.

Autoplay - even up to six months ago - used to feed me sometimes quite niche releases related to what else I'd been listening to but now I only ever get Please Please Please or Birds Of A Feather. A few weeks back it was only Espresso or Lunch.

Actually in that same twitter thread there are people saying that other popular songs also get played in their autoplay (Tommy Richman, Chappell Roan etc) but it's funny how everyone is only focusing on the Sabrina songs :P
Because it depends on what's your taste in general. If you have listened to "basic pop", you'll get Sabrina, more alternative: you get Chappell and rap: you get Tommy Richman. I have got all of those but Sabrina by far the most.
I fully understand labels want to get monoculture pop hits back, but they need to figure out a more subtle way to do it, because I think it will taint Sabrina as an artist because people will know how she became popular. Playing after Frank Sinatra and rap and rock and non-English songs is a bit extreme. And I think Espresso wouldn't have needed it anyway.
Three Lions is #40 on AM. A top 40 re-entry already this week?

If we win tonight and with another game mid week I think it’s on the cards. We’ll see if they decide to reset it again for a laugh

They should reset it for sure but it barely got anything last two days and one of England’s group games isn't even this week so I doubt it could make the top 40, probably top 10 next week though
