I also just don't get the lyrics. This may be a language barrier or something but it sounds to me like the message is "if you arent a woman, you're lucky that women allow you to live in this world".

Joops, my love, I can’t help but think you’re reading a bit too much into this woman’s lyrical content. This is Katy Perry, not Kate Bush, she has songs such as “I wanna see your peacock, cock” and entire songs built around the metaphor of being a tiger.

It’s literally just “women are amazing, you’re welcome” in the most basic and uncreative form, nothing more, nothing less

One of the main problems with this (imo) is Katy is approaching 40 and by this point we should be expecting something with more artistry. She's had a few years to come up with at least one knockout song for lead single and we get this... The lyrics are mind-numbingly basic with no real meaning other than some phrases shoved together.

Sexy, confident

So intelligent

She is heaven-sent

So soft, so strong

She's a winner, champion

Superhuman, number one

She's a sister, she's a mother

Open your eyes, just look around and you'll discover, you know

It's a woman's world and you're lucky to be livin' in it (Uh-huh, uh-huh)

It's a woman's world and you're lucky to be livin' in it (Uh-huh, uh-huh)

You better celebrate'

Cause, baby, we ain't goin' away (Oh)

It's a woman's world and you're lucky to be livin' in it (Uh-huh, uh-huh)

Fire in her eyes

Feminine divine

She was born to shine

To shine, to shine, yeah

Katy has always been a really good lyricist so wth isn't she showcasing it?? It screams lazy. :( I don't think the pile-on is fair though. People were happy to worship her when she released turds like Birthday yet this slightly better song is worth her getting cancelled??

A good lyricist? That is quite a stretch and I very highly doubt she has much input in writing her songs a la Dua Lipa

Dua co-writes 95% of her music. It's well documented and sourced. Radical Optimism even came with handwritten notebook about the album's writing process.

Katy definitely had a hand in writing her earlier songs. Thinking of You was written entirely by her and it’s a gorgeous song.

Alternative versions out today

BRB Woman Version = Instrumental

Doing The Most Woman Version = Extended

Transcendental Woman Version = Instrumental Ambient

Super Woman Version = Sped-up

Naked Woman Version = Acapella

Lol yes but I just mean the way it's phrased is more awkward than what she's presumably going for.

Even "we're lucky to be living in it" would be more of an empowering message generally than what it actually comes across as. Like, it's meant to be a feelgood song.

I'm curious what else is on the album though, it's not like she hasn't led with a flop before and then had something better in the back a la Harleys in Hawaii.

Excuse me but Chained to the Rhythm is a solid 10/10 this is a solid 3/10 at best.

Actually if she released CTTR now it would probably be a top 5 hit as is very Espresso

Chained to the Rhythm was perfect

I firmly believe 'Chained to the Rhythm' and 'Never Really Over' are her best lead singles. I love them both, which makes this all the more disappointing.

(Obviously, I get that the first three leads are bigger songs but I have always found them borderline annoying)

I feel like I'm listening to a different song to almost everyone else. To me this is insanely catchy (I really wish I could have been listening to it on repeat) and is just an almost perfect pop song. The video is fantastic too...

My only criticism (which is the same for a lot of songs at the moment) is that it's too short. Basically, I don't want it to end without a middle 8. I guess my tastes are that far away from the general listener these days (maybe I'm in my dated nostalgia era? Because this sounds FRESH to me)

100% THID!! It's so catchy, just a little short!

She shoulf fo a Rihanna, when American 02 and thst other one floppef majorly. Skip it. Don't even put it on the album. Move on to Nirvana, or bring ina big ol feature!

Chained is very very mid snd not even her dong.

Dhe dhoulf hsve lef eith Roulette, then Tsunami.

The way this is only charting in Norway because Norway is the only country to have added it to their Hot Hits playlist on Spotify skkskskskj

Chained To The Rhythm

Never Really Over

I Kissed A Girl

Roar

California Gurls

Woman's World

Is how I would rate the leads absolutely love them all bar WW but the top 2 are my highlights from Katy, very very strong leads

I mean Chained to the Rhythm actually has very very good lyrics and meaning

Edited by Rough_edges

Never really over is the best lead by a mile. Woman's world is definitely the weakest.

California Gurls is her best lead for me. The imagery and everything is just so fun.

Tbh I've never liked that many of her leads though. Chained was a decent track but in retrospect an awful lead for Witness. Bon Appetit would have sold the album better, maybe with Chained as a standalone.
