Why the doubts? Seems good to me.

Seems like more tax for not much benefit or maybe less in some cases that is reliant on growth that might not even hit targets

It was obvious for at least a year before the election that the Tories were deliberately leaving an almighty mess for Labour to clear up. Unfunded cuts to NI and a string of unfunded spending commitme

There has already been a national enquiry. The last government didn't implement any of its recommendations. You've been told that before. Why are you still ignoring the facts?

I was very surprised at how positive today's front pages were. I was expecting several of the tabloids to lead on the Gene hackman story as a way of keeping a good-news story about the government off

Clearly the strategy is the pummel money in to the NHS, which in turn means more people ready and available for work and not eating in to unproductivity in the workforce. Yeah the private sector might moan about NI increases, but this might be off set by the savings the businesses make through people who are able to work, be back to work sooner.

I get the bit around the £3 bus fare, but all these little small things all add up. Personally, I think the fuel duty freeze is a big win. It's OK at the moment, but drivers are at the mercy of oil prices. Prices are fairly low at the moment, but all it takes is something politically outside of our control for prices to go up 25-40% fairly quickly.

Budget was fairly good. I think Labour set the stage well for themselves with the big warning of a difficult/tough budget months in advance that a lot of people are pleasantly surprised or neutral about in reality.

The biggest issue overall is the WFA though. I was hoping they would re-jig it a little but they don't seem to have. Whilst a lot of those who have just missed out will qualify for the additional benefit that a lot of people don't collect it's quite difficult to go through the application process. Particularly for a lot of older people who are not so great with technology/the internet in general - it can be quite intimidating/difficult to go through all the forms etc and wait for an outcome for the pension top-up.

What on earth are the axes on that graph?

To give some reality, it's fallen a cent against the dollar in the last 48 hours and has fallen minus seven cents since this time last year.

Sure, it's reacting to borrowing (but this time needed borrowing instead of wasteful dumb-con-libertarian borrowing), but I don't think there's any signs it's irrecoverable, there are fluctuations like that all the time, the media are likely again overreacting to totally normal things and making them sound apocalyptic.

The overdramatics from this budget from the media is quite something, I'd be interested to compare it to the last Tory budget (bar the disastrous Truss one)

I agree, if I see one more business owner being interviewed and encouraged to say they’ll have to lower wages or pay people off because of the Nino hike. That’s the employers doing that not the government, why don’t they take some of the £££ out of their profits instead??

And the poor farmer on the bbc news this morning who only owns the 500 acres and is complaining about inheritance tax - save me the sob story when you have 6-8m in assets mate!

He's very right wing, so of course he doubts it

Who me? Not a fan of labels I will just go for what I see at the time. Tribalism is boring to me. Rachel Reeves said it’s a budget they won’t want to repeat so if the architect of it isn’t too proud of it I don’t know why anyone else is. I’d rather it wasn’t bad I don’t want my money to lose value tyvm

One things for sure there is a decent new divide in British politics at least with the investment in public services and combined with growth for Labour compared with the low tax low investment tories.

The £ fell 0.8pc on Thursday. That compares with 3.2pc after the Truss budget in September 2022 (Tories) - celebrated by the Daily Mail and quoted by Nigel Farage as 'the best Tory budget since 1986', a fall of 4.3pc after Black Wednesday in 1992 (Tories) and a record of 8pc on 24 June 2016 (Tories) after the Brexit referendum. If you don't want your 'money to lose value tyvm' might I politely suggest that you simply just don't ever vote Conservative..

The focus on a comparatively small fall by the rich elite billionaire owned press and their outriders is I think fairly transparent.

It is going about as well as can be expected given the UK is now comparatively a much poorer country after 14 years of disasterous Conservative rule. The biggest news story for me in the last few days was the birth rate slumping to 1.44 (lowest on record), falling living standards, stagnating growth and feeble productivity. Leaving the EU has exacerbated the problems that already existed and I don't really see much improving over the next 5-10 years sadly.

We could have the first by-election of the current parliament soon as Mike Amebury (who has now had the Labour whip removed) has been charged with assault. If found guilty, he will have to resign if he's sentenced to more than a year, or face a recall election if he receives a shorter custodial sentence. He won the constituency in July with a majority of 15k, so unless the 2nd place Reform UK perform a surprise upset, then it'll more than likely be a Labour hold.

The final scene from Animal Farm comes to mind….
Reform will win next election

Can't see it under a FPTP system. They'll make a lot of gains and Labour need to be careful as I fully expect the Tories to sell out to Reform, but just can't see a Reform majority.

Would be terrible for the country, no policies would get through. Would be like Brexit all over again.

Apparently 2 million people are petitioning for another election already?

Why???

What crazy standard are they holding Labour to here?

Not being racist enough, probably.

Probably the same people saying "you lost, get over it" after Brexit and that 2019 win.

Same people who said democracy was over after 1016 and rwfused to ever even contemplate a swcond vote lol. Same ones who scream about winning and democracy after tories win, esecually after Blojo the Clown, their messiah.
