Wouldn't call Padam Padam a HUGE hit - it still hasn't even reached 200M on Spotify globally. It was a proper hit in the UK and selected markets yes, but I would think 95% of the world population doesn't even know that it exist or remembers it. On Spotify, it charted in 8 countries overall and never reached the global top 200.

You can call me Debbie Downer or whatever but while Tension era fed most of the Kylie fans well, I think the style of the era (dance pop) just doesn't sell albums and provide hits today. She should move onto towards either heavier dance beats or ballads/slower songs. Imagine what a new Where the Wild Roses Grow could do on TikTok!!!

I think you're just being a troll for the sake of it as per usual. Let's be honest, realistically outside the UK and Australia she's never really been a huge act anyway so in her key markets it actually has been a huge hit (from somebody who was never expected to have one again)

In my response to your post, I didn't directly say (or intend to imply) that you'd already said any of my words. The point of my post centered around you not having explained the "Tension II has been a total disaster for Kylie" statement. It was an exercise in exploring possible reasons for why Tension II could be considered as being a disaster - and then, from my perspective, disapproving each reason that I had raised as potentials. That was all from me, I wasn't attempting to put words into your mouth.

I feel like you may have interpreted my post as an attack towards you, but I can tell you it genuinely wasn't intended to be read in that way. All I was aiming to do with my post is expanding on a statement you had made, and to create a conversation around "Tension II being a disaster". For me to say that I don't agree with that and to elaborate on why, and then others might have shared their thoughts to carry on what could be an interesting discussion.

Your response lets me know that none of my suggested reasons are how you feel, and that's fair enough. You've now explained that you think Tension II "has got to be bleeding Kylie and her labels". Which is also fair enough, and perhaps it is.

I feel like Tension II - which has been promoted and defined as a sequel album, released instead of an initially proposed reissue - is essentially a "means to an end" product. It's kept her name out there by expanding the Tension era in order to promote a huge tour. Ultimately it achieved positive headlines and an impressive chart stat. In that sense, it could be considered as a job well done for Tension II. Whether or not the companies are satisifed or disappointed with the sales of the album, we can of course only speculate. I will say that BMG have had involvement in numerous albums that have sold a fraction of Tension II though.

Regarding reviews: Of course you're entitled to think that they should be ignored and that "sensible people would" (although that's a separate discussion about the validity of critical reviews). I raised it in terms of their role in how well or not an album is perceived. Bad reviews can have a knock on effect that leads to a disaster album era. The terrible reviews for Katy Perry's 143 album had a significant impact, causing headlines and viral social posts, essentially another nail in the coffin of her era so far. Tension II received generally favourable reviews - 9 positive, 3 mixed - resulting in a respectable Metacritic score of 77, one of her best to date. NME and The Independent gave the album full marks. It was just another point raised to support my view that Tension II hasn't been a total disaster.

Anyway, just ending this post to stress that my initial post and this one are absolutely not personal, I'm posting them in good faith! We can agree to disagree about Tension II and that's completely ok. I was just interested in why you felt that way, but you've now said. It's all good.

There’s certainly Tension in this thread at the moment

I think when Padam Padam is spoken about as being a huge hit, it comes with caveats (that don’t really need to be highlighted each time).

The Top 200 of Global Spotify is a very lofty glass ceiling for a technically independent artist who’s as far into her career as she is (BMG is not one of the three majors). Padam not making that chart doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a big hit though. A song doesn’t have to be truly global to fit that definition, it can be more localised & within the context of that artist’s career and the place she holds in the industry. So much stands against Kylie when it comes to streaming and charts, but against all the odds Padam managed some truly great achievements!

Anyway did anyone try the Tension II? I thought the Tension II was lovely. x

35% off everything on her store Black Friday

even all the singles etc

limited edition stuff

NICE!

P&P not 35% off though haha

Thank you for your reply, I think we both understand a little better on what each other was trying to say in our posts. Face to Face we most likely would of understood what each other was saying straight away, it's always a bit harder with words from a distance. Take care.

Well from that we also know it wasnt top 200 last week if its been listed as a re entry, she should be on track to clear 1k this week.

So even the cassette being £5.25 can only muster up 19 sales - it really is a week 1 only format with no longevity regardless of price.
To be honest it's not being promoted. They are just getting rid of stuff before the tour or before something else gets released
Had this been another new campaign for a new album, and it was performing the way it is now, I would’ve been disappointed. But from the beginning, I have seen this album as a bonus – instead of being a bonus CD, it ended up becoming a number one and getting her into both the headlines as well as the record books. Which is my way of saying, even if the album had sold a lifetime total of 200 copies, I would still call it a success.

They must be so cheap to produce. They don’t even bother with proper inserts. Kylie’s cassette sales are much higher than most other artists, as you say, it’s incredibly niche whatever the price.

Indeed her Tension/Tension II cassettes are so lazy from a design point of view. :( There should be a fold out sleeve with pictures / credits and even lyrics!

A shame the sale has ended - if the remaining wasn’t moving at the reduced price then it’s certainly not going to at full price.
I agree the sale should be on for longer or just keep the prices reduced, as you said if they havnt sold out at reduced prices there certainly wont at full price.
T2 is holding up well in the Australian Artist's chart, rebounding from 17 to 11 this week, it's 7th week on the chart, I think Tension was on the AAC for 6 weeks

It was a black friday sale. The rest will be sold in xmas sales probably

Most companies had a 2 week BF sale (and some are still going on).

I guess BMG must be happy with the level of sales and stock holding though. Anyway it’s good it ally least pulled in a few more sales for T and T2.

Tension II needs discounting on third party retailers like Amazon and HMV to drive sales, if team KM/BMG aren't going to do any UK promo before the tour starts.

It's still full price (CD £12.99 and vinyl £29.99) on Amazon and HMV.

^^ And ain’t nobody buying at that price without a radio single/promo etc to help people seek the album out.

Guessing though that they are more than comfortable with how it’s performed hence not reacting with price cuts everywhere.
