So the athletics programme kicks off at the ungodly hour of 6:30 in the morning tomorrow UK time with the 20km race walk. The women's 20km race walk will set off at 08:20. There will be no 50km race walk this Olympics with a mixed sex relay race walk taking it's place instead - part of the drive for gender equality across the games. Athletics weekly has a preview for the 20km individual races here.

Just catching up on the racewalking

Brian Pinta of Ecaudor wins the men's race with a time of 1:18:54

Yang Jiuya of China wins the women's race with a time of 1:25:54

Next medal event on the track is the 10,000m run at 20:20 tomorrow evening.

Track events at last - now it feels like an Olympics. So aside from the preliminary 100m women's rounds with all the no-hopers who got universality places a decent morning of watching the athletics.

The real fun starts tonight with the women's 5000m heats and the first medal in men's 10000m final.

My eye candy in the Decathlon (Manual Eitel) had to pull out because of Covid :(

Excited for the athletics events though. Love the confidence in Josh Kerr's interview after he won his 1500m heat

Universality places are an absolute joke.

Ridiculous and stupid post. It's the only thing that actually makes this feel like a global event - where else would small countries have the funds to compete?

Always good to see some different countries get medals where they can.

Glad that the Athletics have finally arrived. Sunday in particular looks stacked, real couch potato stuff!
It will probably get broken in the final barring any slip-ups. It's gonna take a mighty effort for anyone to take gold away from USA in that race.
That 400m mixed relay was exciting - The Netherlands causing an upset over firm favourites USA there! Femke Bol really has some talent. Nice to see GB get the bronze as well.

What an event for St Lucia to get their first ever Olympic medal, 10.72 on a wet track well done Julian Alfred, Daryll Neita just outside the medals, best performance by a female Brit in 64 years.

Nice for Bol to win that after the unfortunate incident last year .

Excellent for GB.

Fraser-Price was not injured, but was refused entry to the stadium by officials and therefore missed the race.

Wasn't she in the warm-up area before her race? Or is that not in the same place as the stadium?
