July 31, 2024Jul 31 So the athletics programme kicks off at the ungodly hour of 6:30 in the morning tomorrow UK time with the 20km race walk. The women's 20km race walk will set off at 08:20. There will be no 50km race walk this Olympics with a mixed sex relay race walk taking it's place instead - part of the drive for gender equality across the games. Athletics weekly has a preview for the 20km individual races here.
August 1, 2024Aug 1 Just catching up on the racewalking Brian Pinta of Ecaudor wins the men's race with a time of 1:18:54 Yang Jiuya of China wins the women's race with a time of 1:25:54 Next medal event on the track is the 10,000m run at 20:20 tomorrow evening. August 1, 2024Aug 1 Caught a bit of the racewalking this morning - nice to see Ecuador getting a gold, becoming a bit more of a regular occurrence for them now!
August 2, 2024Aug 2 Track events at last - now it feels like an Olympics. So aside from the preliminary 100m women's rounds with all the no-hopers who got universality places a decent morning of watching the athletics. The real fun starts tonight with the women's 5000m heats and the first medal in men's 10000m final.

August 2, 2024Aug 2 Universality places are an absolute joke. Ridiculous and stupid post. It's the only thing that actually makes this feel like a global event - where else would small countries have the funds to compete? Always good to see some different countries get medals where they can.
