I've waited a long time to use the word 'epizeuxis' in a sentence but Sabrina Carpenter has finally given me the perfect opportunity. 'Epizeuxis' basically means repetition of a word and ever since I heard 'Please Please Please' it got me thinking of what other hits there are whose titles consist of the same word three times. Surprisingly there are at least two other number ones. I've restricted it to songs which have made the UK top 20 as there are quite a lot more without that restriction.

Caveat: I've used multiple resources to try and find an exhaustive list but it's possible that I might have overlooked some songs. If anyone can think of any obvious ones that I've missed then let me know and perhaps a mod can add that option to the poll.

When I was looking into this, I was shocked to discover that Arrow's 'Hot Hot Hot' only originally peaked at #59 :o (although a remix scraped the top 40 in 1994). I always assumed that had been a massive hit!

Also, could a mod please correct the first entry in the poll? Not sure why it's added it twice!

Oh so THAT's what you had in mind. ;)

It's a clever thread and my immediate thought is can I think of any that you've missed... let me see (but probably not!).

Forgot about that Kesha/3oh!3 follow up, anyway its nowhere near as good as their first collab imo.

Prefer Hi-Tack - Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U) to the original but becuase its not just a triple epizeuxis its probably not eligible for this.

Not sure whether 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' [Abba, #3, 1979] doesn't count because of '(A Man After Midnight)', whereas the Chic song counts as it has a triple epizeuxis (great word by the way) in brackets as well as the main title?

'Rain Rain Rain' [Frankie Laine and the Four Lads, #8, 1954] probably should count, though I doubt many people know it.

No huge favourites here, but voted 'Bang Bang Bang'.

Yeah I didn't include Abba (or indeed Hi Tack) for exactly that reason. Technically I shouldn't have included Chic but I couldn't resist when it had two complete sets of epizeuxis!

I knew someone would find one I missed but I don't think we need to worry about adding Frankie Laine :)

Found another one from the 60s, Chuck Berry had a #38 hit with Go Go Go

https://www.officialcharts.com/artist/4786/chuck-berry/

I already know of that one, but it wasn't top 20 so it doesn't count (there are actually loads more if we extend it to cover top 40, for example Robbie Williams' 'Sin Sin Sin' which I would have voted for)

didnt realise it was top 20, these things are usually top 40, would be great to expand

It literally says top 20 in the title of the thread lol.

There would be way too many if we expanded it to top 40.

I found one you forgot! :D That's always a lot more satisfying than actually responding to the poll! :kink:

From 2001, a one hit wonder that peaked at #14;

Not one I've heard of sought out in many years but then I started thinking of the sound a phone makes! :P

Well done Wardy, I can only imagine how satisfying that must be :D there's also very nearly another one in a similar vein: 'Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)' by De La Soul, a #10 hit from 1991.

Not sure if the Aaron Soul one is prominent enough to warrant being added to the poll though!

Sabrina, Naughty Boy, DC x2 and Abba!

Wasn’t there a song called Boys, Boys, Boys as well or was that just Boys?

I guess you're thinking of 'Boys (Summertime Love)' by the original (and surnameless) Sabrina in 1988 - side note, only three Sabrinas have had any Top 75 hits but they've all have had at least one Top 10 hit now.

Lady Gaga also had a song called 'Boys Boys Boys' but that wasn't a single.

I have used the word epizeuxis in commentaries before, but overlooked it with Please Please Please. It’s up there with sesquipedalian as a favourite word.

No way I'll ever remember that word again  I can offer antidisestablishmentarianism but I dont see that featuring in music songs somehow....

I voted for all my top 10's in the end. But especially my chart-topping Abba, Andrea True, and the Deadpool & Wolverine intro song which is top 20 on downloads at the mo (Bye Bye Bye)

Edit: I can't say I'm surprised I'm the only voter for Yummy Yummy Yummy even though I only posted the video yesterday in the Naff Lyrics thread. But Run Run Run is rocktastic!
