You'd be hard pressed to find any decent people who don't condemn rioters on all sides. At this stage, I don't even care what the reason is, it concerns me that I'm seeing posts from individuals asking if it's even safe to go outside at the moment.

It shouldn't be like that.

  • I’m not sure giving the public more information right there and then would have changed anything. The morons still would have rioted no matter what information was at their disposal.

True, though I have yet to see any evidence of any rioters that are anything other than far-right thugs. We do not have any tradition of "antifa rioters" and any people with that sort of disposition aren't getting involved in this.

Hope you and everyone you know can stay safe like this. We got another emergency COBRA meeting tonight, and that people are getting charged should hopefully move it towards an end. Seeing it in even in left-wing cities like Bristol, Brighton and Liverpool is worrying - though the greatest pushback also seems to be there.

Yesterday's proposed riot turning out to be a hoax was somewhat hopeful, but that doesn't mean I'd want anyone to get complacent. I'm seeing lots of stuff about counter protests but I'd almost prefer people didn't bother with those, and just let the police take care of it.

I do feel (and hope) that the worst of it has passed. I'm meeting someone in Birmingham City Centre on Sunday and even though I'll be with them, I don't want this to worry about.

Thankfully, I don't think there's been any riots in Scotland so far but Glasgow in particular is usually a hot spot for protests and the like so it probably is only a matter of time. I can empathise with the fear to go out though, it's something I feel more often that not for various reasons (albeit different from this) but like a few people have already said, you can't let other people stop you from living your life, of course be careful and vigilant and don't put yourself in any unnecessarily risky situations if you can help it. Although people should just learn to behave like decent human beings rather than the rest of us having to be extra precautious but that's just the world we live in at present unfortunately. I reckon they'll run out of fumes soon enough but that's half the problem, we shouldn't need to wait for it to blow over as it's always until the next time, there's always going to be something that sets these idiots off.

Edit* oops spoke too soon, apparently there's a protest/march happening in the city centre tomorrow

I absolutely hate the phrase 'legitimate concerns'. Like the DUP with their 'petition of concern' that they kept wheeling out when they were losing the debate. Every single time these melts use it, it is merely subterfuge used to conceal their own prejudiced or unpopular views. They all use the copium of wanting free speech, until the free speech being exercised is one used to either expose or condemn them for the truly unpleasant ppl they really are. Great that Keir Starmer is calling it out for what it is, a lie.
Quoting this before you coward edit it away again.

'Legitimate concerns', good lord. The peaceful protests are by-and-large the anti-racists, and non-white people are being attacked for their skin colour, nearly exclusively done by white people. You xenophobe.

What was the post??

Was quite telling too that Priti Patel distanced herself from everything. In a weird way from a political angle, I think this shows the decisiviness of getting in to bed with Reform. Seen a few Tewitter clips of Farage getting tetchy and basically admitting he used Andrew Tate and other fake news sites as news sources. Be interesting to see if this plays a part in the Tory Leadership as much as the Conservatives can clean to the right, I am not sure the majority will lean to the very far-right.

This whole immigration debate is ending up very much like Brexit, where certain powers are deliberately getting involved. There's a clear difference between immigration and small boats/asylum seekers, but the far-right want to merge the lines.

Farage knows exactly what he's doing. Not sure what their end goal is, apart from stopping people from being able to go about their lives safely.

So Elon, and the far righters that are promoted to me on twitter - and I still don't understand why!!! I follow Bernie Sanders and Corbyn and that's it!!!! And Starmer now (although I did reply to some of Fatage's posts during rhe campaign? But they were already popping up on my timeline for me to tell him where ro go in the first place) - are trying to create a false equivalence between far right riots and other protesters. He's calling Keir "two tier Keir", in an effort to stoke more division. I don't understsnd what he's getting our of saying that and why he doesn't, um, CONDEMN THE RIOTERS!!! But here we are. Also, Keir has just been in the post a month! And there is no equivalence between far right riots and peaceful protests!!! But I reckon he knows this.

He's also now saying!!! That our media!!! Our bloody media!!! Parrot rhe government!!!!! Wtf is wrong.woth Elongated Muskyrat?! He's getting more fashy by the day! He obviously has no clue about the UK media too.

Also, had these riots not happened, we'd have had more focus on the tragedy, but the thugs have diverted the attention towards their riots. The girls are barely getting mentioned now :(

Think the likes of Farage and Tice are only interested in making money, they ate just puppets from the likes of the US. Ultimately, a lot of these people want to take us back to the "good old days", that Project 2025 ideology think tank isn't too far away from what I suspect a lot of powerful people would like the West to return to.

Don't worry about it. Just a big long screed that that poster posted a couple of times, knew it was dodgy so would keep editing it out a couple minutes after posting it, largely to the tune of why the far right rioters might be justified. I removed it from the thread so we don't have that kind of rhetoric left standing on the main forum now they've been banned.

There's little that has made me more indignant and angry then that overly-divorced manchild billionaire deciding to wade into British politics followed by his mouth-breathing sycophants trying to stoke up the fascist idea that society is one step away from 'civil war' if only people were ready to rise up. He's definitely a fascist now, in that he is signal boosting every single far-right deplorable figure that has gained popularity in the last decade.

Starmer hasn't been as present as I'd have liked him to be, but it's difficult for any leader to look good through disorder.

I think Starmer's been in an unenviable position myself. I think his messaging has been good, but I think it became quickly apparent that it needed to be something more proactive.

But they're learning. I doubt anyone actually expected it to get this bad.

Starmer's in a no win position really and it helping during the summer recess break probably isn't helping (was he on holiday when this first all kicked off? I'm sure I read that..). Not ideal. Think he;'s fairly authoratitve and to be honest, the fact he's only really getting criticism from the far-right probably shows he's probably doing the right thing. Most of the prominent critics from both the left and the more liberal right have been fairly quiet.

It's a fine line as you have to allow people the right to protest, but then equally finding those protests that have the possibility to spill in to trouble is incredibly difficult. Certainly shows that social media needs some form of regulator imo as now we have the 'don't believe the MSM' wacks now believing anything and everything that's posted on the internet.

Think the leaders of the Tory party over the past 14 years have got a easy ride this week (probably because they aren’t in power now) because when over the past 14 years you have policies like austerity, the cost of living crisis, Stop the Boats and the Hostile Environment and now you see the effects of this!

Three more custodial sentences for the riots:

- 3 years for man taking part in the Southport riots

- 2 and a half years for a man taking part in the Liverpool riots

- 1 year and 8 months for another man taking part in the Liverpool riots

I want to know what has happened to the idiot who raided a Greggs and took a tray or sausage roll!? Honestly is possibly prison time worth a tray of f***ing sausage rolls? Really shows the level of intelligence these racist moronic rioters have.

There's currently a stand off between the far right and at least 200 residents near the station in Brighton. The police are keeping everyone separated. No significant trouble as yet

That fits in with the numbers I had heard were gathering in Preston Park earlier.

It got bigger. Feels like half the city has turned up. There's a least 2000 now
