  • It is an odd choice but I think Tom Grennan will feel bigger to young people.

Tom Grennan headlining makes it even odder that they decided to snub ‘Shadowboxing!’ I thought that he was going to start to struggle to get R1 support from now on but obviously I’m wrong!

    Fat Dog Mendoza!

Wonder will they ever play on Radio 1 Anthems some of the rather forgotten Radio 1 A-listed non charting indie in the 2010s:

Like:

Mallory Knox - Ghost In The Mirror

Jamie T - Rabbit Hole

MS/MR - Think of You

Don Broco - Hold On

all great songs heart

I've not listened properly for a little bit now but Friday saw the launch of GK Barry's show for the summer and it went down well.

Danny Mylo and Rosie Madison are doing early breakfast each Friday this month; they've got quite the following having been on a regional Hits Radio breakfast show for many years before the changes that came in last month to nationalise breakfast.

Charley Marlowe doing early breakfast in August.

Radio 1's Dance Weekend in Ibiza runs 1st-3rd August (the Chart is still on at 4pm)

Katie Thistleton returns in September from maternity leave.

GK’s last show was today. I wouldn’t be surprised if she comes back to do more shows at some point but I really enjoyed listening to her and Nat this weekend!

As of last week BBC Sounds is restricted to UK listeners only, non-UK listeners can still listen to live stations but can't go back to listen to old content.

I've found a way to download the app and regain access without a VPN, so if anyone else outside the UK needs help, PM me! (If I'm not allowed to mention that pls delete it from my post)

What’s the reason for this restriction? Has it always been a bit of a thing they have been meaning to sort out as to access it outside of the Uk anyway given it’s paid for by licence fee payers?

BBC Studios is a commercial subsidiary of the BBC and is focused on bringing our trusted, world class journalism and storytelling to international audiences. Earlier this year, BBC Studios launched a new audio section on bbc.com and the BBC app (a commercial service) outside the UK.

Revenue generated by these services is returned to the BBC to support its public purpose in the UK.

As part of this announcement, we said we would close BBC Sounds outside the UK – and make it exclusively available to listeners in the UK.

The old name for the power intros they produce to put in front of songs. Usually they're played top of the hour and after Newsbeat but it's on every song this morning it seems 😂

Live Lounge Day returns August 25th from 5am-6pm and then it's a night of Reading & Leeds highlights 6pm-1am.

When does the lineup for Live Lounge Month usually get announced?

Beth Wallace will host Friday Early Breakfast (05:00–07:00) in September, and Jack Remmington and Ash Holme will take over in October.

Charley Marlowe will co-host Radio 1’s Life Hacks (Sunday 16:00–18:00) with Lauren Layfield while Shanequa Paris is on maternity leave.

Olympian Lina Nielsen will co-host in October. Both Charley and Lina will also host The Official Chart: First Look with Lauren (Sunday 18:00–19:00).

Safe to say Radio 1 love Charley Marlowe!

September 1st Tommorrow do they still do the first play of Mariah?

Not right now - the Christmas songs are still way too early.. you have to get through the Halloween records first! I'd say, give or take, right around late November it sounds about right for the festive records to slowly creep into the playlist, but by mid-December, really crank it up.

Radio 1 have been known to play the occasional Christmas song in early September, Scott Mills used to enjoy playing Mariah for the first time each year if I remember correctly (and sure enough, the song was played twice in a row on Radio 2 on 11th June, during Scott's breakfast show!)

No Mariah so far though (2nd Jan was the last play of All I Want for Christmas Is You).

Was the 2nd Jan a post Xmas chart?

They normally ironically play her on 25th Sept I think but then nothing until the last week of November at the earliest.
