Welcome a brand new season of the Chart Forum Quiz for 2024! :cheer:

We will look to try and get 8-10 weeks different quizzes, subject to available and willing quiz hosts, between August & October 2024. BuzzJack members are invited to take part in both hosting and participating in weekly quizzes. If you would like to host a quiz, then please post here which week you would like to take and what kind of quiz you would like to do. You can do one of the tried and tested formats or if you have your own format explain it so it can be considered. Your questions ideally should all be chart music related.

Quizzes usually last for a week and a results thread will be made once all the answers have been collected after the closing deadline.

I will do my best to tally points each week and post the scoreboard in this thread, but I may call upon help from Mangø or PeteFromLeeds to verify results and scores.

Schedule:

Week 1 (26/08): Pointless with awardinary [Entry / Results]
Week 2 (02/09): Album Covers with spiceboy [Entry / Results] (Hosted in The Lounge)
Week 3 (09/09): Song Pictionary with Mangø [Entry / Results]
Week 4 (16/09): Music Initials with Mack. [Entry / Results] (Hosted in The Lounge)
Week 5 (23/09): Quick Fire Quiz with Dan17F1 [Entry / Results]
Week 6 (30/09): Family Fortunes with Riser [Entry / Results] (Hosted in The Lounge)
Week 7 (07/10): Never Mind The BuzzJacks with Mangø [Entry / Results]
Week 8 (14/10): Wrong Uns with PeteFromLeeds [Entry / Results] (Hosted in The Lounge)
Week 9 (21/10): TBC with TBC [Entry / Results]
Week 10 (28/10): TBC with TBC [Entry / Results] (Hosted in The Lounge)

For those of you unfamiliar with Quizzes here is an explanation of the main formats from Bré;

FAMILY FORTUNES
(example from last year: voting thread / results thread)
In this quiz, the host asks a series of questions (typically 10 of them) and participants answer each question with what they think the MOST popular response will be. Points are scored based on how many other people gave the same answer as you to each question, so for example if the question is 'name a single by El Chombo' and 15 people responded 'Dame Tu Cosita', each of those people would be given 14 points for that question. Most points wins.

POINTLESS
(example from last year: voting thread / results thread)
This quiz is basically the inverse of Family Fortunes. The host will, again, ask a series of ~10 questions, but here the participants answer each question with what they think the LEAST popular response will be. Points are allocated the same way as in Family Fortunes but here it's the player with the fewest points at the end that wins (so the best answer to a question - a Pointless answer - is one that no other participant answered). There's also the catch that an incorrect answer is penalised by giving the answerer the maximum possible score for that question, i.e. one less than the number of participants (so if there are 31 participants and someone answered the question 'name a winner of the X Factor' with 'Michelle McManus', they would be given 30 points for that question).

NEVER MIND THE BUZZJACKS
(example from last year: voting thread / results thread)
The host uploads onto SoundCloud/YouTube a series of short (usually instrumental) clips from songs, usually about 20 of them, and participants simply have to name the songs, scoring a point for each one they get right, or a half-point for guessing the right artist. There's also often some kind of bonus questions based on the songs on the side for additional points. Here's a quick guide RabbitFurCoat put together wayyy back in the day with some instructions for uploading a round of NMTBJ onto SoundCloud.

ALBUM COVER PUZZLE
(example from last year: voting thread / results thread)
The host makes a collage of cropped sections from album covers, usually about 20 of them, and participants name the albums that they are taken from. Participants get points for each one they get right - this may just be 1 point per correct answer, or a varying number of points decided by the hosts based on how difficult they think each one is to guess. Like in NMTBJ there may also be bonus questions on the side for additional points.

OTHER FORMATS
You are also welcome to try other formats out which aren't listed above! For example, last year we had:-

Dingbats (courtesy of PeteFromLeeds)

Only Connect (courtesy of Suedehead)

So you're welcome to propose something brand new or use one of these alternative formats as well.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and we will try our best to get back to you! ^_^

Just giving this a bump - we've decided to make this a joint Chart Forum / Lounge venture as with last year, so weeks 2/4/6/8/10 will be hosted in The Lounge. If you want to host a more general-knowledge quiz then hop over here to sign up to host. But of course we're still looking for hosts here in the Chart Forum as well!

And here are a few more quizzes we've run in the past to give you some more ideas:

Emoji Quiz (courtesy of awardinary)

Quick Fire Quiz (courtesy of chrissmith276)

Song Title Anagrams (courtesy of jimwatts)

Answer Smash (courtesy of StoneDragon)

Missing Vowels Quiz (courtesy of PeteFromLeeds)

You can put me down for Week 3. I'll be trying out a never-done-before quiz which I'm calling Song Pictionary :)

I’ll attempt to host my first quiz this season! I’ll do a quick-fire closest answer wins in week 5 if that’s ok?

We are looking for a host for next week, please can someone consider if they can put together a quiz for the forum. It doesn't have to be complicated, just a quick fire question and answer quiz would be absolutely fine if that's all you can do. :)

Please pop a message in this thread if you can help.

Unfortunately, I'm having a few issues with finding a website I can write a quiz on which isn't making me pay - if anyone knows of one it would be much appreciated. I have all my questions ready though!

I'm not sure Dan, are you not able to post your questions in a thread and get people to send you a PM with their answers?

You can try asking PeteFromLeeds if he has any other suggestions.

I presume that would defeat the point of a quick fire quiz :) I can't help I'm afraid as I've never set one of these types of quizzes, I'm looking forward to participating though if you manage to find a suitable platform. I would suggest looking up previous quiz leagues to see who has run a quick fire qiuz before and ask them for advice. (Maybe Wardy can help identify these?)

chrissmith would be the best point of contact there, it seems the previous website he used (flexiquiz) now requires payment (or it always has done).
Yeah, I just did a search through the previous quizzes and it seems chrissmith276 is the only host who has run a quick fire quiz. If the website he used to use now requires payment, I'm sure there must be other options out there?
