Shame about Harlequin, I actually am a little surprised Happy Mistake hasn’t done much given how much all the fans have been raving about it and her flawless performance the other night. And why would anyone download a jazz album with only two original songs on it? This type of release is obviously made for consumers of physical versions. Expect a high peak when physical versions are shipped.
October 4, 20241 yr I'm shocked at how bad Gaga is doing with her album.... to not make the Top 30 is atrocious. The film has mixed reviews, but Gaga has done promo e.g. Graham Norton. Hopefully the physical will lift it up into the Top 20. Still not great. I think back to similar projects (artists like Madonna with I'm Breathless (from Dick Tracy) a #2 album and a massive hit globally) and so it IS possible to have a hit, if the aritst is hot at that time, and there's interest. It kind of confirms what I've thought about Gaga for a long time - she's unable to have a hit single without a superstar collab - eg. Ariana and Bruno (Die with a Smile is a Bruno track through and through and would have been a hit with practically anyone).

Album downloads are a very small part of the chart and it's not streaming friendly. It's unfair to judge it until physicals come out.

Problem with these kinds of statements is that the goal posts are always being moved. "Always Remember Us This Way" has been streamed 2 billion times, surely that counts? Or it doesn't because it's attached to a major motion picture, but then if this album was hypothetically a huge success, then it wouldn't count because it's tangentially attached to a major motion picture. She just had a decade old album track make the Billboard Year End chart in 2023. A month ago I was told on this forum that "Die With A Smile" was a dud that limped up to #25 on Spotify just because it was a Sunday, only for it to spend every single weekday since then comfortably above that margin. We might have an inherent desire to pick out certain hitmaking artists as frauds but it always requires so much mental gymnastics that it's a fruitless exercise.
