There has been a delay in the vinyl (all editions) in a lot of the UK, so I'm unsure what the numbers are gonna be for week 1?

That's hardly surprising they from UK, Ed last 2 albums (not counting his greatest hits) were easy number 1s here but never did in the US,

Heck plenty of British acts have been humongous here but only had minor US success

the best example is Oasis never having a US #1 album

Did Blur?

I always assumed britpop meant they were very much quintessentially British music in their style and subject, especially Parklife.

None of Blur's 90s albums charted any higher than #61 in the US. Their highest peak there surprisingly came in 2015 with The Magic Whip reaching #24. As you say, they're a very quintessentially British band, I don't think the Americans would ever have 'got' them. Oasis's sound was a bit more accessible, hence they did better out there, with two of their three 90s albums going top 5 in the US.

They always did have a strange taste in music the old Yanks, even to the fact they loved Queen then saw the video for Its a Kind of Magic and retreated into themselves
Looks like we'll have to upscale our prediction  . I'm going to add a one to mine and go to 190k

Thats basically how I'd see it as an American here, blur never really connected with us. I mean id say theyre known, but they're kinda only mentioned in relation to Oasis

Difference here being that Coldplay kind of played to the american taste. Songs like "Hymn for the weekend" are as American as they come. At least acts like Blur and Oasis didn't sell out to the American taste (granted, Coldplay sensed the commercial benefits of selling out)
Interesting how they continue to keep their albums no1 streak alive in the UK but haven’t had a US no1 album in a decade (and missed with the last 3 albums).

It's because of their US label 'Atlantic Records' doing bad promo since their 2014 album Ghost Stories.

A Head Full of Dreams (2015) could have been top in US #1. But "Adele - 25" blocked them.

Everyday Life (2019) is their least promoted album. Even Coldplay fans didn't know Coldplay has released new album.

Music of the Spheres (2021) another mistake by Atlantic Records.

I never expected such huge numbers for them so im going to be at least 100k off in my prediction.

Coldplay kings of being underestimated with first week album sales!

Wouldn't be surprised to see them add another variant considering how close they are to #1 right now in the US, down 9k against Short N Sweet

I think this poll should have been frozen once we found out they'd done 160k!

Tbh I only just figured out how to set one up when I put this up on Friday so idk how to close it lol. Though I agree as I’m sure some people have now voted after the sales lol

3 people voted for “they will miss top 100”, opening week sales around 0-5k.

What a joke. Yes, they’re haters, but please

The 2 who voted 150-200k after the Monday mids had already confirmed 160k+... still got it wrong

To the 3 who voted 200k+ after the Monday mids... well DONE

Any further votes that come in will be 20/20 hindsight :D
