wow! and yay for stick season still in, the album is back on for me with this cold coming in, perfect album for this sort of weather

Milli Vanilli had much much better songs, Girl I'm Gonna Miss You is one of their weakest

much prefer Blame it on the rain and Girl You Know It's True

only next week needed and then stick season has been in the top 40 for an entire year :o

Biography

When Mike Shinoda and the late Chester Bennington were writing lyrics for Linkin Park’s 2000 breakthrough, Hybrid Theory, they made a pact: No cussing. It wasn’t just about keeping their audience, a portion of which might’ve had trouble slipping Parental Advisory stickers past their parents. It was more that in avoiding blunt, four-letter expressions of frustration, Shinoda and Bennington could challenge themselves to lean into—and lay bare—their pain in ways that cussing only covered up. On a deeper level, the choice set a kind of metaphorical course for catharsis: Linkin Park were angry, but their anger burned clean. Hybrid Theory was a once-in-a-generation album, arguably the commercial and creative pinnacle of rap-rock. But part of the reason the band survived was that they were always more versatile than their moment. Heavy as it could be, the music was almost never macho, trading in hard-rock pomp for the arty vulnerability of emo and synth-pop. When they wanted to take the guitars down a little, they moved toward a brooding, post-hardcore vision of electronic music that let Bennington flex his inner Depeche Mode fan while retaining a sense of anguish that, it turns out, didn't need aggression to find expression. And by the time they went “pop” (2017’s One More Light), they’d been redefining the terms of commercial rock music for nearly two decades. Formed on the outskirts of Los Angeles in 1996, the group spent their first few years struggling—at one point, an executive suggested they fire Shinoda, their MC, and take a more conventional rock-band route. Hybrid Theory was a kind of Rubicon in hard rock, making the influence of hip-hop and electronic music impossible to ignore. Meteora came out in 2003, followed by a run of albums (2007’s Minutes to Midnight, 2010’s A Thousand Suns, 2012’s Living Things and others) that shifted more heavily toward electronic music. - Apple Music

Biography

Crowded House are a rock band, formed in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in 1985. Its founding members were New Zealander Neil Finn (vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter) and Australians Paul Hester (drums) and Nick Seymour (bass). Later band members included Finn's brother Tim, who was in their former band Split Enz; sons Liam and Elroy; as well as Americans Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod. Neil Finn and Seymour are the sole constant members. Originally active from 1985 to 1996, Crowded House had consistent commercial and critical success in Australia and New Zealand. They achieved success in the United States with their self-titled debut album, which provided the Top Ten hits "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong". Further international success came in the UK, Europe, and South Africa in the early 1990s with their third and fourth albums (Woodface and Together Alone) and the compilation album Recurring Dream, which included the hits "Fall at Your Feet", "Weather with You", "Distant Sun", "Locked Out", "Instinct", and "Not the Girl You Think You Are". Neil and Tim Finn were each awarded an OBE in June 1993 for their contributions to the music of New Zealand. Crowded House disbanded in 1996 following several farewell concerts that year, including the "Farewell to the World" concerts in Melbourne and Sydney. Hester died by suicide in 2005. A year later, the group re-formed with drummer Matt Sherrod and released two further albums (Time on Earth and Intriguer), each of which reached number one in Australia. The band went on another hiatus, and reunited in 2020 with a new line-up featuring Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, and Finn's sons Liam and Elroy. Their most recent album, Gravity Stairs, was released in 2024. As of 2021, Crowded House have sold over 15 million albums worldwide. In November 2016, the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. - Wikipedia

Milli Vanilli being in the top 40 is part of why I prefer the UK Charts to the US, I love it. You don't see that shit on the US charts outside of Christmas, way too predictable over here

Milli Vanilli were huge back in the day, in the UK they had 2 top 5 hits

but in the US they got three #1s and 2 further top 5s out of their first 5 singles

why did he say when this was the first of the 'brand new entries' when its not new? and its extra confusing cos he didn't say that for the milli vanilli track? ( i mean he called it new, but he called tjis one the first new entry???) i wonder sometimes listening to him lol

oh love this one from Crowded House <3

such an under-rated band <3

What a fabulous song  hope it can get another new peak in a third different decade!

Not a "brand new entry" though (certainly not the first today if Milli Vanilli don't count)

the Milli Vanilli comeback is on...? i mean, in a TikTok world with old hits being revived from every corner this actually seems about right x RIP Rob ofc 🙏

Don't Dream It's Over
