LPs back at Smiths

VINYL records are returning to WHSMith stores after more than 30 years.

The chain plans to stock discs in 80 high street stores as it looks to capitalise

on the format's popularity among a new gerneration of music fans.

Sales hit nearly six million in 2023, rising for the 16th year running.

WHSmith said: "We are very excited to be bringing back record selections for

seasoned fans and new listeners."

I remember it being a TV news story when they stopped selling them in the early 90s.

not me thinking she returned to WHSmith to perform in a charity concert or something :kink:

I'm not sure this will work for WHSmith. I used to buy music and videos from WHSmith back in the day and it was widely viewed as a place to buy that sort of thing. Nowadays it's the sort of place you buy a newspaper and a few snacks from at the train station.
Not convinced this will be a great idea, although they already stock them online so I guess they will know how well they sell there
You know what needs to happen before this? Supermarkets stocking CDs, DVDs, vinyls etc like they used to. It makes me so sad going into Asda or Sainsbury’s now and where there used to be a whole aisle dedicated to brand new releases it’s all just DVDs that nobody actually wants to buy or bargain bin CDs with the odd new release thrown in (or altogether different items such as electronics, homeware). :(

I was thinking the same thing!

I also miss seeing new CDs etc in supermarkets! Maybe WHSmiths stocking them is a step in the right direction for an overall comeback for physical media being stocked  We'll see!
