Biography

Hitting number two in the UK album chart and with over a billion streams, in Dissimulation KSI creates space for both his public persona and the personal: big hit features with the likes of Rick Ross and Lil Baby (Down Like That) and AJ Tracey (Tides) sit alongside more intimate, honest tracks. No stranger to defying expectations, Dissimulation received critical acclaim. Clash labelled it “an excellent body of work”; “he’s absolutely smashed it” proclaimed Metro. Other labels and artists want a piece of the KSI pie too: just look to the success of his features on S1mba’s Loose and Nathan Dawe’s BRIT nominated Lighter. With his second album out now, a 2021 tour which sold out in seconds including a headline show at The SSE Arena Wembley, the launch of his own label and a single with Craig David (Really Love), Anne-Marie (Don’t Play) and YUNGBLUD (Patience), KSI has proven that music is very much his domain. KSI brings with him the unrelenting work ethic and infectious energy which YouTube instilled in him. Despite his debut’s success, he’s certain Dissimulation just scratched the surface: the next record, he’s clear, will showcase his artistry’s further progression again. Given FAULT Magazine described KSI as “one of 2019’s biggest success stories - “an emergent hip-hop star” said The i - all eyes will be on his follow up. KSI’s task - writes The Observer - is “not just to make “YouTube rap” but the real thing”. Their verdict? “Mission accomplished.” - Spotify

Biography

Born in 1993, London-based songwriter and producer Frederick John Philip Gibson treats his electro- and rave-inspired songs as diary entries. But the artist, who performs under the name Fred again.., doesn’t limit the subject matter to himself. On albums like 2021’s Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2020) and its sequel, Actual Life 2 (February 2 - October 15 2021), Fred invited his friends into the studio to record their personal stories and then sprinkled them throughout the album. The obvious exception was an epic Kodak Black sample on “Kahan (Last Year)”. The songwriter has also worked with stars such as Eminem and Ed Sheeran; in 2023, he teamed up with ambient godfather Brian Eno to create the contemplative, uplifting Secret Life, a partnership that Eno called “a two-way relationship”. Fred’s longest collaboration is with his brothers, whom he shares his tracks with before they’re released. “It’s such a blessing to work with both of my brothers,” Fred explained in an interview with Apple Music. “I’ll spend hours and hours working on a tune, and they’ll hear it how I will, but without all the baggage. They bring a fresh ear.” On stage, he’s become closely associated with two beloved brothers from different mothers: Skrillex and Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden. Following a surprise booking at Coachella 2023, the three pals became an unlikely superstar DJ trio. Their success just proves a tenet key to Fred’s practice: Music is best among friends. - Apple Music

I did consider putting money on Gracie earlier for Christmas No.1 but it's hardly likely to move back past Wham! closer to Christmas. Still holding up very well though.

Pleased for Kelly to make the top ten finally, 11 years after it should have been an instant top ten. Her first top ten in nearly a decade *.*

Wow, Tom already No.6, I'll be interested to compare the sales to Sam Ryder at No.10 this week last year. Is Alexa overdoing it a tad to try and bag herself a Christmas No.1?? And what an extremely average one it would be (Sam would have been great).

Edited by gooddelta

It was the first song to get 4 spells at #1 wasn’t it? (If Three Lions 98 is treated as a different record).

New peaks and new entries outside the top 40:

49. John Williams - Carol Of The Bells (+4)

60. Mark Ambor - Run Rudolph Run (+12)

72. Rosé - toxic till the end (NEW)

79. Ceechynaa - Peggy (NEW)

82. Laufey - Santa Baby (NEW)

85. Kesha - Holiday Road (+3)

Nice to see regular songs climbing in amongst the Christmas stuff even if one of them is The Days. Too bad Wham returned to number one but I guess we were lucky not to have it last week. Glad they played one of Laufeys's even if they were forced to do it because it's at 40. Haven't actually listened to the show yet as I really can't stand Danni (she's apparently really nice though so I feel bad for it!)
who actually is playing this

ME!

It’ll only be predictable until it isn’t, another song will eventually take over.

Great to see Kelly top 10, certainly one of the great Xmas songs of the modern era. Always remember raging in 2013 why radio 1 refused to play new Xmas songs on their playlist when it had such clear hit potential.

Are new hits climbing in December a sign that

1) Xmas songs are being played less or

2) streams are bigger gear on year or

3) neither of the above!???

Edited by Steve201

I'd say other than random days like the 1st December, I think Xmas songs are being played less overall,

Covid and lockdowns initially caused the spike which seemed to spill over for a few years as people started getting back together but now I think they peaked and are slowly dropping again
