To be fair isn't there a big push for Wham! this year? I think they released Vinyls and such (I believe they may be going for #1 in the US!).

I’d like Tom Grennan to be no1. Wham’s last Christmas is just so overrated. There are far better Christmas tracks out there.

It would be nice for another track to be a Christmas #1 so there is at least some variety. Mariah or Tom Grennan for me.

No, she didn’t go top 2 at all in 2021.

 

And my money is on Gracie for the Christmas Number 2. She appears to be doing better everywhere than this time last week.

I’ve heard on the grapevine that they’ve already sold double the physicals that Mariah sold in the whole week - but I can see that they are continuing to be promoted so this might increase. Remember that ‘Careless Whisper’ recently made the First Look Chart showing how keen George Michael fans are to purchase any physical products.

 

The Last Christmas zoetrope 12” and HMV picture disc have sold out online. Managed to pick up the pic disc instore on Saturday, but they only had about 3 copies. Plenty of the CD though.

If Wham! constantly get Christmas #1, I can see people doing campaigns to stop them getting Christmas #1 in future like they did in 2009 against X Factor

I don't think people are as offended by Wham! constantly being Christmas #1 as they were by X Factor doing it, considering that many people love 'Last Christmas' and they recognise that it is genuinely the most popular song in the country that week.

Yeah, Last Christmas is just an enduringly popular song by a very well-loved act. There is no machine to rage against, I don't see any campaigns making a jot of difference.

 

Furthemore, I just don't think the majority of the general public care about the Christmas chart like they did 15 years ago for reasons stated at length elsewhere.

It’s to do with playlisting as it’s near the top of most playlists and it’s popularity means Alexa plays it early on!
