In lieu of the previous SyncTube sessions' weekly polls cutting each week's songs down to a list of 10 options to vote for because no one volunteered to do the work to make such curated lists, for our Hot 100 #1s marathon I'm just going to post one of these threads each week allowing people to vote for whichever songs they want from the full list x

If you don't know what the above sentence is referring to don't worry, this thread is open to participation from anyone (although we're always open to new participants at our weekly listening sessions x), just post in the thread with up to 5 favourites and, if you want, up to 3 least favourites from the below song list. The song with the most favourite nods will get a play at the start of next week's session (and the song with the most least favourite nods will just have a permanent place on a wall of shame for funziez).

Last week's poll attracted a record 16 votes for the best poll (and also a record 14 for the worst), but votes were highly spread out with a total of 28 songs getting at least one best vote, so the top pick didn't manage to crack double figures like in the last two polls. It was a tie for first place on 9 votes each between Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' and Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)' - a snap poll of early attendees to SyncTube granted the tiebreak win to Michael by 5 votes to 3. Toto's 'Africa' rounded out the top 3 of the week only one vote behind the leaders. There was a runaway top 2 in the worst poll as Stevie Wonder became the first artist to win both the best and worst polls, with 'I Just Called To Say I Love You' also picking up 9 votes, 1 ahead of Lionel Richie's 'Truly'. Lionel would have won combined as 'Hello' completed the top 3 although a way back on only 3 votes.

My votes for this week:

Best:

a-ha - Take On Me

Falco - Rock Me Amadeus

George Michael - Careless Whisper

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls

Tears For Fears - Shout

Narrowly missing out: 'Kiss', 'How Will I Know', 'St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)' and a good discovery in the form of 'Oh Sheila' (I previously only knew the Angel City version but I think I already like the original more).

Worst:

Dionne & Friends - That's What Friends Are For

Lionel Richie - Say You, Say Me

Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin - Separate Lives

Lionel is only on there this week because it teases becoming a more interesting song partway through then is like lol jk going back to being a predictable ballad.

a-ha - Take On Me

Falco - Rock Me Amadeus

George Michael - Careless Whisper

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls

REO Speedwagon - Can't Fight This Feeling

Both Tears for Fears songs, Don't You (Forget About Me) and We Built This City missing out.

Billy Ocean - There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)

Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald - On My Own

Starship - Sara

For leaving precisely zero impression on me x

Some classics this week, no room for Aha, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon or Starship.

Dionne & Friends - That's What Friends Are For

Stevie Wonder - Part-Time Lover

Whitney Houston - Saving All My Love For You

Best:

Heaven

Rock Me Amadeus

These Dreams

We Are The World

Careless Whisper

Intentionally snubbing Take On Me so we can have a new winner instead.

Only 5 votes per poster I'm afraid x Unless specified otherwise I'll count this as voting for 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' and 'Sussudio' and disregard the other songs by TFF and Phil.

(You can vote for multiple songs by one artist if you want but you'd have to sacrifice one or two of the other songs)

best

worst

not the best era for chart-toppers in the US, UK was much more on fire as the US went bland ballad crazy. I will stick up for Dionne & friends trying to help marginalised gay men dying of AIDS in hordes as society treated them like lepers - it was a well-meaning and sincere track absent the OTT of We Are The World. Friends Are For is way better than the 3 drivel tracks Ive nominated :teresa:
