Michael Gray - The Weekend

MK - 17

Sugababes - Wear My Kiss

Michael Gray was the man behind the Brits 1990 Dance Medley which reached number 2. The Weekend was his biggest hit under his own name and has uncredited vocals by Shèna. MK's 17 also has uncredited vocals, this time by Carla Monroe. Sugababes still have their double A side single to come.

'Higher State Of Consciousness' and 'Lovely Day' are songs I considered for votes - I thought the latter would count as a #7 since the remix which reached #4 is very different.

I suppose by the same precedent, 'Blue Monday' would count as a #9 (separate to the 1988 remix which made #3), and perhaps 'Something Good '08' would count as an #8 (separate to the original which made #4).

'I'm Not Scared' is another pop gem from the 80s, it received 3 points from me. Love both the Eighth Wonder and the PSB's own version.
'Ain't Talkin Bout Dub' is possibly my favourite dance song ever, it's just flawless! That guitar riff intro just draws you in every time.

Surprised it didn't get mentioned coming so soon after Jump but that guitar riff is Van Halen again. From the song Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love

Pink - Trouble

Ben Pearce - What I Might Do

What I Might Do was not a hit when first released in 2012 but charted the following year after being featured in an advertisement for Tesco F&F. From 2003, Trouble was Pink's ninth top 10 single.

Lucid's 'I Can't Help Myself' was the first vote I've lost in a while - superb progressive trance

I do like Michael Gray's 'The Weekend' too.

Fun - Some Nights

Dannii Minogue vs Flower Power - You Won't Forget About Me

Some Nights was Fun's follow-up to their number 1 single 'We Are Young'. They have not had any more top 40 hits since then. It's the end of the road for Dannii Minogue who loses her second song.

Some Nights

Never really knew the title at first, but I've always known its chorus being associated with our badminton highlights.

Natasha Bedingfield - Soulmate

Emma Bunton - I'll Be There

Noah And The Whale - 5 Years Time

From 2007, this was the first of just two top 40 hits for the English group. Natasha Bedingfield has two number 7 singles but no one voted for the other one, 'I Wanna Have Your Babies'.

Altered Images - Don't Talk To Me About Love

Planet Perfecto – Bullet In The Gun 2000

Sisters Of Mercy - This Corrosion

This was the third and final top 10 single for Altered Images with two of them featuring in this poll. From 1987, This Corrosion stretches to 11 minutes on Sisters Of Mercy's second album 'Floodland'. Bullet From A Gun reached number 15 in 1999 with a remix taking it higher the following year.

Noah and the Whale another loss from my votes, my top 10 are still intact though (for now...)

The cut off point has been reached!

So despite three more people voting in the first round compared to last year, the score required to qualify is one less than the 63 points we had for the number 6 single poll. 100 singles had a points total greater than 61 points. We also have eight wild cards, these are the songs that were given 30 points by one voter but didn't receive enough points from others to go through. So there will be 54 songs in each semi-final with the top 25 going through to the final. These are the wild cards, with the person who gave them 30 points in brackets:

30 pts Rick Mayall - Noble England (gasman449)

30 pts Bloc Party - Two More Years (Jaz13music)

35 pts Martin Garrix and Jay Hardway – Wizard (CowTzy)

46 pts Siouxsie and The Banshees - Hong Kong Garden (Severin)

49 pts Snow Patrol - You're All I Have (jimwatts)

52 pts Roy Orbison - I Drove All Night (JulianT)

53 pts Chris Cornell - You Know My Name (ukchartsstatsfan)

59 pts Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Mixed Up World (AH Gold)

The first semi-final will start tomorrow.

I did think Snow Patrol would need the wildcard! Happy to have all my top 13 and most of my remaining votes through too.
Will you still release the overall ranking of the remaining songs in this round?

Yes, I'll reveal which songs scored the most points in the first round after the final has finished.

Aww I debated giving This Corrosion my 30 to AQ it as more people need to hear it (and I see my actual 30 didn't need it anyway, unless it was just on the borderline), was a great discovery from my 1001 Songs... book.
I know no one will vote for it but COME ON RIK MAKE IT TO THE FINALS!!!

Same goes for Wizard. Some of the 'Golden Era' big room songs that is actually good. Animals is iconic, but this one's better.

Yeah, it's quite poetic how Van Halen appeared not long before with thier #7 peaking single!

Those Fun and Dannii songs are both great, shame I couldn't find a space for them in my votes!

Wait so did both Seahorses and Smashing Pumpkins make it?! Awesome! Not many big losses for me in the most recent set of results though I really like that Fun song
