January 15Jan 15 Author 9 points The Animals - It's My Life Bow Wow Wow - Go Wild In The Country The Bluetones - Marblehead Johnson Cynthia Erivo featuring Ariana Grande - Defying Gravity Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine – Can't Stay Away From You The Feeling - Sewn Michael Jackson - Off The Wall Kosheen - All In My Head Simply Red - You Make Me Feel Brand New Stevie Wonder - You Are The Sunshine Of My Life Lw6Ofi-oMCM This was Bow Wow Wow's breakthrough hit after their first five singles had all failed to reach the top 30. The Animals had three number 7 singles and It's My Life is the only one to get a vote. There are some big names in this batch with Gloria Estefan, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson all appearing, the latter has two more songs left. Bringing things up to date, Defying Gravity is still in the top 10.
January 15Jan 15 Author 10 points Altered Images - I Could Be Happy Christopher Cross – Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) Herman's Hermits – There's A Kind Of Hush Karen Harding - Say Something Big Dee Irwin - Swinging On A Star Marillion - You're Gone The Ordinary Boys - I Luv U Olivia Rodrigo - Get Him Back! Shakespear's Sister - You're History Shalamar - I Can Make You Feel Good Stefflon Don featuring French Montana – Hurtin' Me ueBOQuRRSwA Not surprisingly, I was the only person to vote for Marillion. You're Gone, from 2004, was their first top 10 single since 1987's 'Incommunicado' and their biggest hit with Steve Hogarth as their lead singer. I Can Make You Feel Good was the first of four top 10 hits for Shalamar while You're History was the debut single by Shakespear's Sister. Altered Images and Herman's Hermits both have one more song to come.
January 15Jan 15 Author 11 points Arcadia - Election Day Dexy's Midnight Runners - There There My Dear Flash And The Pan - Waiting For A Train Meat Loaf – Not A Dry Eye In The House North And South - I'm A Man Not A Boy UB40 - One In Ten Xuy_jIKN7Lw From 1983, this was the only top 40 hit for the Australian group. There There My Dear was Dexy's Midnight Runners' follow-up to their first number 1 single 'Geno'. From the following year is UB40's One In Ten, referring to the amount of unemployed people in their part of the country.
January 15Jan 15 Misfit and Say I’m Your Number One were close to getting points from me. Don’t think I’ve ever heard Too Nice To Talk To before- I do like The Beat’s other big hits (Mirror In The Bathroom and the Can’t Get Used to Losing You and Tears of a Clown covers) anyone got any other recommendations of The Beat hidden gems? Oooh that’s a great back catalog to get into, one of the best 2-Tone bands. I’d suggest ‘Save It For Later’, Ranking Full Stop’, ‘Stand Down Margaret’ and especially the wonderful ‘Hands Off….She’s Mine’. Enjoy!
January 15Jan 15 Author 12 points David Bowie - Boys Keep Swinging Bush - Swallowed Stephanie Beatrix, Olga Merediz and the cast of Encanto - The Family Madrigal Manic Street Preachers - Australia The Move - California Man Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons - The Night sBxZN7nJMEo So here we have Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and Bev Bevan having a great time on Top Of The Pops. This was their last single as The Move. They had already released the first ELO album before this came out (going in a very different musical direction) and the first single from it, '10538 Overture', would hit the chart before California Man had left it. Australia was the last of four top 10 singles for Manic Street Preachers from their 'Everything Must Go' album. Also here, there is the excellent song The Night from 1975 by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.
January 15Jan 15 'I Could Be Happy' is the only loss from my votes so far - I enjoy the rhyming of "tree" and "holidee". 'Boys Keep Swinging' is one I considered for points.
January 16Jan 16 Wouldn't have expected it to progress but a bit disappointed 'Husan' only got 1 more point beyond what I gave it! Still not been many other songs out so far that I care much about but I did have both 'get him back!' and 'The Family Madrigal' survive my first cull of the list.
January 16Jan 16 First time hearing that Driver 67 song - quite a unique concept! Meat Loaf, Darius, Manics and Bluetones were all in or near my points of the recent fallers. Though Cut Some Rug is my preferred Bluetones #7 - perhaps that's still to come.
January 16Jan 16 First time hearing that Driver 67 song - quite a unique concept! Same, I quite liked it!
January 16Jan 16 Oooh that’s a great back catalog to get into, one of the best 2-Tone bands. I’d suggest ‘Save It For Later’, Ranking Full Stop’, ‘Stand Down Margaret’ and especially the wonderful ‘Hands Off….She’s Mine’. Enjoy! Thanks @Jaz13music And thanks to the Car67 voter, great to find something unexpected and unusual!
January 16Jan 16 Author 13 points Michael Crawford - The Music Of The Night / Sarah Brightman - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again The Drifters - Like Sister And Brother The Dubliners - Seven Drunken Nights Leftfield and Bambaataa – Afrika Shox Meco - Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band The Saturdays - 30 Days Tin Tin Out featuring Shelley Nelson – Here's Where The Story Ends 0WLzvZzIE0g Disco and Star Wars were huge in 1977 so someone called Domenico Monardo decided to put them together and this was the result. The single went to the top of the Billboard chart. Here's Where The Story Ends by Tin Tin Out was much played on the radio in 1998. The Dubliners had two top 10 hits with a gap of 20 years between the first one, Seven Drunken Nights from 1967, and the second one, The Irish Rover.
January 16Jan 16 Author 14 points Billie Eilish - My Future Gabrielle - Walk On By Kula Shaker - Govinda Prince and the New Power Generation – My Name Is Prince Pussycat Dolls - I Don't Need A Man The Stranglers - Strange Little Girl Terence Trent D'Arby – If You Let Me Stay Yes - Wondrous Stories 9-BMlq_zyko Taken from their brilliant number 1 album 'Going For The One' this is the only UK top 20 single by Yes. Strange Little Girl was a fifth top 10 hit for The Stranglers while If You Let Me Stay was Terence Trent D'Arby's debut single. Prince has two more songs to come.
January 16Jan 16 Technically Yes had a #9 in 2005 with the remix of “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”, credited to Max Graham VS Yes. :)
January 16Jan 16 Author 15 points Fine Young Cannibals - Good Thing Howard Jones - Pearl In The Shell Eartha Kitt - Under The Bridges Of Paris Madonna - What It Feels Like For A Girl Neon Jungle - Welcome To The Jungle Prince - Thieves In The Temple Tavares - More Than A Woman Tina Turner - I Don't Wanna Fight Wolfman featuring Pete Doherty – For Lovers Padam Padam by Kylie Minogue scored 15 points but is disqualified as it peaked at number 8. WnWKkxyx-qI This was the fourth single taken from Howard Jones' debut album 'Human's Lib'. A regular on these polls, Madonna has seven singles which reached number 7. The only one that was ignored was 'Another Suitcase In Another Hall'. What It Feels Like For A Girl is the first of the other six to drop out. Tavares' version of More Than A Woman from the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever is here and Prince quickly loses another of his songs.
January 16Jan 16 Author Technically Yes had a #9 in 2005 with the remix of “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”, credited to Max Graham VS Yes. :) Oh yes, I always forget about that one.
January 16Jan 16 Author 16 points Sam Smith - How Do You Sleep? Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue – Whatta Man Gary Shearston - I Get A Kick Out Of You Ugly Kid Joe - Cats In The Cradle Slim Whitman - I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen gS8fcsf8asI This was a one hit wonder for the Australian singer who went on to be a priest. He looks a lot like Freddie Mercury here. I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen was the last of four top 10 hits for Slim Whitman. Originally going back to 1875, it has been sung in episodes of The Royle Family and the original series of Star Trek.
January 16Jan 16 Not a fan of the Tin Tin Out cover version of Here’s Where the Story Ends, but The Sundays original is fantastic!
January 16Jan 16 I forgot to point Govinda as I missed it on the list </3 Would've not been enough to qualify it though, love the Eastern vibes. Marlon Roudette the only one of my actual votes to go, admittedly was lucky it came up on my music shuffle the day before, but love the steel drums.
January 16Jan 16 I've only lost two so far! Think I'll lose my third track in the next wave though. Just "Swallowed" that I regret not giving points to at the moment
