Shut Up And Dance, The Night We Met and The Sound Of Silence are still in there (EDIT also Seventeen Going Under)

Yes there are techincally a few, but “Sound Of Silence” is obviously recently viral so doesn’t really counter Jim’s point. “Pink Pony Club” as well. “The Night We Met” is sort of a late drip discovery by the public but yes that is becoming a genuine classic.“Shut Up + Dance” is in danger of dropping out and “Seventeen Going Under” is only there because of Sam’s comeback.

When I did the top 200 sellers of all time I definitely noticed that while it was dominated by 2014-19 hits from the early days of streaming, they were pretty much universally falling down the list while older songs were climbing. There’s definitely a sense of that first streaming period slowly being consigned to history.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in looking at this (or maybe it’s just me)? In the streaming era the EOY chart has appeared heavily biased towards songs released/peaking in the first ha

OK if Back To Friends isn't in this week I'll eat my hat, Don't Stop Me Now will fall out.

Also thinking the next oldie to enter might be We Are The People, been popping in and out of the audio streaming chart quite a bit.

“Back To Friends” replacing “Don’t Stop Me Now”

  • Author

Can’t think of much likely to enter between now and the mid year point, but there are some definite exits on the way starting with the now tanking “Prada”, so it will be interesting to see what takes their place. I think “505” might show its face again.

If those are the true sales of Back To Friends I was bang on with my initial estimate! Could see Shake It To The Max entering in around 3 weeks but not 100% sure about it

Also can I have the positions of Every Breath You Take and Cruel Summer please? Think I've messed up around the 70-75 area as I wasn't expecting Say My Name to be in that region yet...

You've downgraded your sales estimate for 'All the Stars' this week Julian?

I think we could see the bottom end of the chart stagnate with songs on low sales but nothing to replace them, which didn't really happen last year with everything falling away being replaced quickly.

I think 'Prada' will survive one more week with no new entries next week as I don't think '505' is close enough - outside of that it's a guessing game which oldies show up, I guess 'Don't Stop Me Now' could re-enter if stuff drops off really fast. Outside of that maybe 'Wonderwall' or 'Another Love' which has picked up a bit on Spotify recently but I would think they're quite far away by now.

I would imagine that 'We are the People' has a fairly poor premium ratio, would be surprised to see it show up.

I could see 'Shake It to the Max' showing up in 2 weeks time, but maybe that's optimistic on my part.

No new peak for Revolving Door this week?

I had it jumping 'Burning Down', but being passed by 'Azizam' and not quite doing enough to get ahead of 'Dirty Cash', thus staying at #54.

Not as far as I’m aware. I did correct “Luther” down by a few k as it wasn’t making sense that it had fallen behind “Hot To Go”, but then I realised I’d made a mistake and given it too much in an earlier week.

This time last year

Stick season miles ahead of Messy but 11 and 20 stronger this year. So if it picks up could have more in the millions this year by year end

So depressing we are into June and only 7 songs released this calendar year and in the YE top 40.

Only 6 in the top 40 😭 and another 8 across the whole top 100 (9 if you count Back To Friends which was released on 27th December/start of tracking year).

This time last year there were 13 songs released in 2024 in the top 40 and a further 10 lower down in the top 100. What a drop off, just so many monster hits last year, and of course the rise in streams for much older songs

Edited by gasman449

Prada will survive, think it did around 7k this week.

505 only did 7.5k and I'd guess around the same for Don't Stop Me Now so unless there's something I've completely missed, there'll be no new entries this week for the first time this year

Messy survives for one more week!

Is that Mr Brightside #1 on the all time list now?

No, it’s about 200k behind Shape of You (which went 11x platinum) this week at #2

Oof, both songs so far at the top of the 2025 YTD ('That's So True' and 'Messy') were #1 officially at the time they first got there - has 'Ordinary' narrowly missed its chance to make it an unlikely (in this day and age) hat-trick? 😱
