Posted January 8Jan 8 4wn0Iah33Fs Today marks 35 years since the release of 'Tears On My Pillow'. A cover of the doo-wop song originally a hit for Little Anthony and the Imperials, Kylie's version was the final single released from 'Enjoy Yourself' and featured on the soundtrack to her first feature film The Delinquents. It became Kylie's fourth number one in the UK - as well as SAW's thirteenth and last to date - but faired less well in Australia, peaking at #20 and becoming her lowest charting single. Share your thoughts and memories of 'Tears On My Pillow' below!
January 8Jan 8 I loved it then and still do now - not one that gets much love from the fanbase but it works for what it is and was part of the hype around The Delinquents being released. Pleased it managed to snatch a week at the top.
January 8Jan 8 Author I think it's a sweet, harmless cover; one I enjoyed more in the past and don't really return to now. If it hadn't been a number one for her, I'd definitely have opted for 'I'm Over Dreaming (Over You)' as single #4.
January 8Jan 8 I really quite like it as well. Doesn't even try to break new ground or anything; it just is what it is and was right for the movie - which I really want to watch again but apparently has never been released on DVD in the UK. Shame it gets so little love from most of her fanbase.
January 8Jan 8 ^^ The DVD is quite easy to pick up, it was released in Europe. Haven’t watched it for about a year but always enjoy it for what it is.
January 8Jan 8 I'll take another look then as all I found was Regions that wouldn't work on a UK DVD player or being able to rent it through Amazon Prime. I would like to own it as I always enjoyed the movie.
January 8Jan 8 Author These are the estimated weekly sales for 'Tears On My Pillow' (based on panel sales and the market size in 1990): 02 43,588 01 59,262 02 53,856 03 32,674 09 19,669 It held up pretty well the week it dropped from number one, but couldn't contended with Sinead O'Conner's smash 'Nothing Compares to You' which ended up having two weeks of 100k+ sales. Couple of archive bits: UAhGSY5MNsc h4gOPVt0q8I "It appears in the closing credits of The Delinquents... if you can stay awake that long" - harsh! Apparently the film was an initial success in the UK, debuting at #1 in the box office, although I can't actually find a source confirming this.
January 8Jan 8 Awful then, awful now. Plus, culturally the PWL backlash had started (they had a big sudden drop in terms of chart entries between 89 and 90) so the song doesn't bring back the best memories
January 9Jan 9 Author What’s everyone’s thoughts on the B-side, ‘We Know the Meaning of Love’? I like it, but don’t love it. I’d have had it on the album in place of one of the Disney ballads though. I think both this song and ‘Enjoy Yourself’ set the blueprint for the sound Kylie would explore more on ‘Rhythm of Love’. pp6O9OYASPM

January 9Jan 9 Sadly "Tears On My Pillow" is very underrated now. Edited January 9Jan 9 by Last Dreamer
January 9Jan 9 Sadly "Tears On My Pillow" is very underrated now. I think it got written off pretty quickly - it’s never a song Kylie refers to or even the fanbase generally speak about, I love it for what it is though.
January 9Jan 9 Liked it at the time but rank it bottom of her PWL single releases. Production is very pedestrian/ clunky though still better than that given to most of the other PWL artists.
