Hi all!

Welcome to (The) Greatest Chart Run Ever.

A few years ago I decided to follow to the charts of these UK bands (and their members combined) more carefully and after this Friday Chart news I suppose it'd would be interesting to do this together since now.

Only Number #1s (Albums & Singles) make sense.

You could ask me why there is no The Rolling Stones but while we're into Charts threads it's not so interesting to look at the band's stats only (1x Number 1 of Mick is not so interesting for stats).

Same with Queen.

So, based on current statistics of UK OCC Chart history, this is Top-3 of the biggest (band) acts: The Beatles, Take That, Oasis.

https://www.officialcharts.com/

Very important to understand I'm combining their joint and seperate efforts through the music history.

All of them still record or publish new releases together or seperately, so it's difficult to separate them from each other, IMO.

Well, why did I choose this title for a thread? I like the movie's title The Greatest Beer Run Ever :D. Check it out when you will have some time.

What can I say more?

Oh! Of course! Please fix me and tell if I did any mistakes.

Thanks for this, pretty interesting that Oasis are number 3 and not the Spice Girls as I would've guessed at a glance. Would Wings not count for Paul McCartney outside of the Beatles? That would give them an extra number 1 single and number 1 album.

EDIT: If Wings count then the Traveling Wilburys should for George Harrison, that's one extra album

Spice Girls have:

2x Number #1 Albums

16x Number #1 Singles (9 - SG, 4 - Geri, 2 - Mel C, 1 - Mel B)

So, not enough for Top-3 =(

But we can add and make it Top-4, no problems!

Yes, thanks, let me do my homework with Wings and Traveling Wilburys.

Must be added, for sure!

That's great, although I can't see any of them getting any more #1 singles. It is all about the album charts now for these groups. The Beatles #1 single Now and Then in 2023 was a one off ''the last Beatles song'' and had a novelty factor aiding it (AI).

It's a shame Howard from Take That never released his debut single and album. It had a Latin, part Spanish, and Brazillian instrumentation sound to it, so would have been different to Robbie, Gary and Mark's output at least. However, he decided against it and went further into DJing instead.

The advantage the Beatles have is that all the members had solo careers over numerous releases and including some having different bands.

OK, added Wings stats.

Yes, it is more about albums.

But.

Oasis could release their new single around summer Tour dates - any effect could be then.

Again, while Elton John (or Tom Jones much earlier) can record with young acts why for example Robbie or Paul couldn't?

I remember this great single by Rihanna, Kanye and Paul - FourFiveSeconds. Number 3, if I'm not wrong.

Or for example, Wonderwall and Angels never been #1.

Who knows one day...

So, if somebody would ask me to bet even 1K USD on the fact nobody of them will never get another #1 I wouldn't do that =))

Also Emma Bunton's 'What Took You So Long' was also a Number 1 single so would be 17 Number 1's with that included.

You forgot poor Baby :)

Westlife 23, three away from Oasis.

Boyzone at 18 total are closing in on the Spice Girls, 19.

One Direction, 17.

I think One Direction will likely get top 3 by the end of the decade if Harry releases a couple albums. Niall could also help with album #1s.

Gary Barlow

Number #1 Albums (3):

Open Road (1997), Sing (EP) (& Commonwealth Band) (2012), Since I Saw You Last (2013)

Number #1 Singles (3):

Forever Love (1996), Love Wont Wait (1997), Here Comes The Sun (& Commonwealth Band) (2012)

[/indent]

Gary's 2012 #1 single was called 'Sing'

Also Garys 'Since I saw you last' didn't make number one. But his last album 'Music Played by Humans' made number one in 2020
Probably helps if you actually read the topic before you post.

I know this ain't a poll thread but I wanted to give my opinion anyway. :lulu:
