Everybody Hurts is one of my favourite songs by probably my favourite band ever. It’s also massively important to my wife and I. It was there for us during our baby son’s long illness and, after it h

'Seven Nation Army' landing at number 7 in a poll of the best number 7s

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED Thanks to the 43 people who voted. That's eight more than in the number 6 single final last year. The results will start later this week.

The closing date was three weeks ago so you're a bit too late. The results are almost finished.

Oh... oops 😂 Sorry clearly didn't read it properly!

2. Radiohead - Creep 1485pts

Writers - Radiohead, Albert Hammond, Mike Hazlewood

Top scores - Mango 50, chrissmith276 49, marcinjaro 49, King Rollo 49

Low scores - gasman449 6, Lee_J11 11, Cymro87 12

Average score - 34.5

Radiohead just miss out on adding the number 7 title to their number 4 win in 2022 so we will have a new winner once again. Creep only reached number 78 in 1992 but was re-issued the following year after it was better received in Israel and the US. The song has similarities to 'The Air That I Breathe' by Albert Hammond, a cover of which by The Hollies got to number 2 in 1974. This led to the song's writers being given a share of Creep's royalties.

1. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit 1564pts

Writers - Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl

Top scores - Julian_ 50, Jaz13music 50, Grandwicky 50, Severin 50

Low scores - Lee_J11 6, AaronTM 7, vancey 15

Average score - 36.4

And so this is our winner with a lead of 79 points over the runner-up. It's not as much as the winning margin of 190 points from last year but still a big gap. 21 of the 43 voters put this in their top 10. Smells Like Teen Spirit was released in 1991 (one year before Creep) and was the first of three top 10 hits for Nirvana. Worldwide, the single has sold more than 13 million units.

I enjoy 'Creep' but 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was in my top 5 so delighted with that winner cheer a stone cold classic with an instantly recognisable intro.

Thank you for all the work put into doing this Rollo, much appreciated clap

“Creep” is a huge classic of course but when it comes to musical boundary pushing there are many Radiohead songs that do a lot more.

Yay for “Smells Like Teen Spirit”! I’ve been thinking for at least a year this would be my 50 haha. It’s a genre and era defining track.

Thanks very much for another brilliantly organised contest Rollo!

Had a feeling Creep would win, I don't dislike it but it's a track I find very overrated so gave it a very low score in the hopes it would make a difference for the top spot. Seems like it didn't matter in the end, glad Nirvana got it, a track that is very deserving of its icon status and enduring popularity!

Thanks for hosting and for the hard work Rollo, it was fun taking part in one of these for the first time 😁

A worthy winner!

I find it interesting that the top 2 are a grunge anthem (maybe the ultimate grunge anthem) plus a fledgling Radiohead that were making their attempt at a ‘grungy’ song. They would go on to make, in my opinion, many other wonderful and better songs but I still love Creep, enough to give it 48 points!

But Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of the greatest rock songs (if not one of the greatest songs in general) ever. My 50 pointer, so couldn’t be happier!

Thank you so much Rollo for your fantastic work!

This was my first ‘official’ rate as a Buzzjack member and I really enjoyed all the listening, ranking, voting, following results and most of all the commenting.

Hopefully my first of many!🙏

'Creep' was my 47 pointer and still a (so very?) special moment for a band who would go on to redefine guitar music while at their peak powers. However 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was my 49 pointer, a seismic moment for a generation, and still such a blast all these years on (sidenote: both songs are currently in the Spotify top 200), so I'm delighted to see it take the win.

Thank you Rollo for hosting this over the last few months!

Well 'Creep' is basically my favourite song of all-time - the chord structure just gets me every time - but I really can't begrudge 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' finishing ahead of it, one of the most seminal tracks ever.

Thank you Rollo for another hugely enjoyable rate, and I look forward to the next one 🙂

Ooh wonderful, one of my last remaining songs from my top 10 here did win! I was thinking that there was a chance Nirvana could do it, but I was convinced Lay All Your Love on Me would win just on the basis of it dominating every poll it's in on here x (I do really like it and it is a classic, just don't quite rate it as a highly as some others on here do). Creep is a great song, but definitely has suffered a bit from overexposure, Radiohead have several songs I'd go to before that.

The top 10 is mainly very good, despite some being a little overexposed. Basket Case is a nice surprise as I didn't expect that anywhere near there and Seven Nation Army at 7 definitely feels right!

Many thanks for the great hosting efforts, Rollo!

A worthy winner - instantly recognisable, and a soundtrack to my teenage parties despite them being a decade later than the song came out. Thank you King Rollo for a very enjoyable rate!

Teen Spirit is one of the most important records of the 20th century and a deserved winner.

Creep is great but not in the same league.

Would have preferred Pulp 3rd over Abba as it's nowhere near my favourite of their's but I won't deny its brilliance.

Great fun to watch these results and good to see a fairly alternative top 10, nearly all of which I like on some level (sorry but Avril can do one)

Thanks for doing this Rollo
