I didn't really know the Aqualung song until this beautiful version of it was sent to BJSC nearly 10 years ago:

sadly it's not on streaming which lead me to the original more instead and now I appreciate both versions, my biggest loss so far.

Everybody Hurts is one of my favourite songs by probably my favourite band ever. It’s also massively important to my wife and I. It was there for us during our baby son’s long illness and, after it h

There's quite a big gap as you can see here separating the bottom two songs. Let Your Love Flow was the debut single by the brothers David and Howard and reached the top of the Billboard chart. The song enjoyed a resurgence in the UK in 2008 after featuring in a TV advertisement for the new contactless Barclaycard and got as high as number 21.

What… HOW? This is such a brilliant fun song. I can only imagine not many know of it too well because I can’t imagine it being offensive enough to people for them to hate it.

Sad 😭

#50 and #49 just painful to listen to imo but I love that Aqualung song at #48.

47. Grandmaster and Melle Mel - White Lines (Don't Don't Do It) 856pts

Although credited to Grandmaster and Melle Mel, this single did not feature Grandmaster Flash. It spent 26 weeks between number 100 and number 41 before finally reaching the top 40, eventually selling more copies than some of the number 1 singles of 1984. The bassline was taken from 'Cavern' by the Sugar Hill house band which led to the writers of that song, from the New York band Liquid Liquid, taking legal action. One score of 49 means that White Lines wins a tie-break over Strange & Beautiful.

Debuting at number 7, How Do I Live dropped down the chart before returning to that peak position seven weeks later. It ended up as the sixth best selling single of 1998. Despite only reaching number 2 in the US, its longevity there led to it being announced by Billboard as the number 1 song of the 1990s. LeAnn Rimes was only 14 years old when she recorded it.

Doh! Thought id voted in this but didnt. Bellamy brothers would have overtaken aqualung and grandmaster melle mel clearlyahead too. I like aqualung but much prefer those 2. Kirsty epuld have grabbed 30 points or so but wouldnt stop her being last.

Two years after it was first released, this was the only top 40 hit for the American trio. It samples one of our semi-finalists, 'Wordy Rappinghood', as well as 'Keep On Dancin' by Gary's Gang. Further sampling occurred in 2004 on George Michael's 'Flawless (Go To The City)' which peaked one place lower at number 8.

Always loved Flawless when it came on the radio but never knew what it was called or who it was by until this rate! Can see why it's so low though, it does get pretty repetitive.

“White Lines” is so ahead of its time - the best thing out so far. “Flawless” is a great dance track that’s been widely used and sampled over the years. “How Do I Live” is still a 6/10 for me but the worst thing in this very good final - it’s very Heart FM, but I do like “Can’t Fight The Moonlight” a lot.

Very disappointed to see Kirsty and Grandmaster Flash out so soon.

Flawless is very catchy, but the other 2 out yesterday I'm not telling anything angel

Not the best start to this with Let Your Love Flow and Strange & Beautiful out so early </3 two very different moods, but both my go-to songs when I'm feeling that way x

White Lines is easily my favourite song out so far. A real hip hop classic and brings back so many memories of my school days.

At the time there was a rumour that a massive proportion of its sales, certainly early on, were from up here in the north of the country on 12 inch as it was absolutely huge in the clubs. Then it later caught on across the whole country, hence the record breaking slow climb to the top 20 and the relatively huge sales for a number 7 single.

So glad it made the final, thanks guys!

I first got aware of White Lines by noticing in the Guinness Hit Singles book that it had a crazy long chart run for something that only peaked at 7 (rare back in those days, not so much now!)

And glad I did as it's a stone cold classic

From 2007, this was the lead single from the Birmingham group's second album 'The End Has A Start'. It was their second and final top 10 hit. They have been more consistent on the album chart with all seven of their studio LPs reaching the top ten.

You would have been wrong if you thought LeAnn Rimes' total of five 1 point scores could not be beaten. Six people put this song at the bottom of their vote. It was the fourth single to be taken from Oasis' debut album 'Definitely Maybe'. With the group's early singles continuing to sell in small amounts over the next few years, it ended up with a total of 79 weeks in the top 100 with only four of those weeks within the top 40.

Marc Bolan should've got a songwriter credit on Cigarettes and Alcohol, that riff is ripped straight from Get It On. One of the weaker Oasis singles of the 90s but still decent.
