Each week, 8 new releases are selected to go head to head, with one weekly winner which will then go up against future weekly winners later in the year at the end of each quarter of the year, and then again at the end of the year to determine the ultimate winner of 2025.

Last week's results;

Benson Boone – Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else [ 9 ]

Rebecca Black – Salvation [ 5 ]

Damiano David – Next Summer [ 4 ]

Halsey – safeword [ 2 ]

Cynthia Erivo – Replay [ 1 ]

Dasha – Not At This Party [ 1 ]

Lizzo – Love In Real Life [ 1 ]

Michael Marcagi – Flyover State [ 0 ]

A new era for Benson Boone is now underway. His new single Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else is tipped to give the American another big hit soon.

Yes please remove Rachel, she is featured in the indie poll this week that WhoOdyssey is running from now on. Thanks @Tafty

Huh?

Just a reference to the UK Eurovision Entry which isn't in the poll heehee

Oh can you add it in. I had no idea.

Nah it’s OK. I like that you have a consistent 8 songs each time. P

Unless you can suggest one of them to remove? I was thinking Rachel as I think she’s more aligned with Indie/Rock than Pop (but I get her inclusion here too)

Ngl, it'd be giving me IJBOL if "start a war" and "blade of grass" were the tracks being nominated instead!

I voted Remember Monday.

If it was something different from Gaga's album getting the push, I *may* have voted for Gaga but VIY isn't a fave from the album for me... oops.

Also voted for WTHJH (better get used to that acronym). 'Vanish Into You' is OK, but 'Garden Of Eden' and 'Zombieboy' >>

My Smash Hits Review:

Chloe Qisha - Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread. [10] The lyrics of Tove Lo, the paranoia of Olivia Rodrigo, a fabulous saxophone moment, a lovely bit of humour, and eating Taco Bell while the word ends! It's a pure bop! TENS TENS TENS ACROSS THE BOARD!

Elton John & Brandi Carlile - Swing For The Fences. [8] Very satisfying beat to it! And the piano with the build up is just pure bliss! I just hate Elton John. So it's a solid 8!

James Arthur - Karaoke [3]. I've never liked anything from him, but this sounds a bit different - he's not really over-singing it like he does with most of the songs. That chorus is good. Is it catchy? nah. Is it something we've heard many times before (this year already)? Well Yes. But there's a bit more effort in this one. Have a 3, James - I'm feeling generous

JENNIE & Dua Lipa - Handlebars. [6] I thought this was gonna pop off? But it isn't? It's like a Pharrell/Silk City moment. Okay! It's disappointing for what I thought it was gonna be, but I'm still quite pleased. Love the Chorus! It's a safe 6.

Lady Gaga - Vanish Into You [9] C'mon Piano & Vocal opener! C'mon Funky Disco Darksided Pop! This is giving Summerboy (from The Fame), Bad Romance, all mixed in with Born This Way instrumentals. It's giving a nostalgic feeling and it's only just come out! That's witchcraft! This is an instant 9!

Nathy Peluso - Erotika. [7] "I don't know what the f*** she's saying, but girl I am living!" - Trinity The Tuck, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 4. Chances are, if you call your song a type of P**n I'm gonna live! I see you Madonna!

Remember Monday - What The Hell Just Happened? [8] That intro gave me all the goosebumps - and then it jumps into a brilliant Synth-Pop-80s-Fame-But-Produced-By-WetLeg-Moment. And then back into the ballady chorus again? This is brilliant! Will it work in a live setting? I think so, it's very "SPACE MAN" coded isn't it? Will it win? Nah - but we will be getting more than 0 for sure! 8 Points from me!

Supersister - Lock Your Boyfriends Up. [8] This pops off, but it could totally pop off more right? But it captures that early 2000s Max Martin/StarGate sound so well. It's an 8!

My vote goes to:

Chloe Qisha - Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread | I need MORE "it's the end of the world" pop bangers like this. Keep me dancing till the world ends!

My thoughts for this weeks pop picks can be summed up by Tokyo Toni!

Spelling mistakes

  1. Remember Monday – What The Hell Just Happened? (grows more on me with each listen, hopefully people 'get it' on the first listen as Eurovision is very much about instant gratification, very unique entry)

  2. Lady Gaga – Vanish Into You (a solid album track from a fantastic album)

  3. Chloe Qisha – Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread (good pop track, most things I've heard from Chole have been tbf!)

  4. JENNIE feat. Dua Lipa – Handlebars

  5. Supersister – Lock Your Boyfriends Up (was this a demo they had at the time that they've reheated, what in the 2001 Cheiron throwback?)

  6. Elton John & Brandi Carlile – Swing For The Fences (not as good as the first track I heard from this album)

  7. NATHY PELUSO – EROTIKA

  8. James Arthur – KARAOKE (ugh)

Very rare time, when I can vote for new song.

Easiest choice : Remember Monday – What The Hell Just Happened?
