As Buzzjack is now in its 20th year of existence, the Multichart has been a staple of the Personal Charts forum since the very first month! We are just a few weeks away from posting the 1000th Multichart (post your chart here to be included!), and what better way to celebrate than to go through every #1 song since the very beginning? This was last done nearly 10 years ago for the 500th Multichart, and rather than bump a decade-old thread, let's start fresh with a new one.

We'll go year-by-year with lists of #1s from each year, and how many weeks each song spent at the top of the Multichart. Should be a fun read whether you're an OG member or newer to the scene. If my timing is right we'll get to 2025 just in time for the posting of Multichart #1000!

Starting very soon - please comment and share your faves as we go along!

2006

1 Sugababes "Red Dress" (1 week)

2 P!nk "Stupid Girls" (1 week)

3 Embrace "Nature's Law" (3 weeks)

4 Infernal "From Paris To Berlin" (5 weeks)

5 Nelly Furtado "Maneater" (4 weeks)

6 Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean "Hips Don't Lie" (2 weeks)

7 Lily Allen "Smile" (1 week)

8 Rogue Traders "Voodoo Child" (1 week)

9 Christina Aguilera "Ain't No Other Man" (2 weeks)

10 Rihanna "Unfaithful" (1 week)

11 Cascada "Everytime We Touch" (1 week)

12 Scissor Sisters "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" (5 weeks)

13 Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars" (3 weeks)

14 Girls Aloud "Something Kinda Oooh" (3 weeks)

15 All Saints "Rock Steady" (3 weeks)

16 Nelly Furtado "All Good Things (Come To An End)" (7 weeks)

So the very first Multichart #1 was the Sugababes, perhaps it’s fitting that they’re back releasing music in 2025 (not the same lineup but still x)! The rest of the list is indeed very 2006-coded. Nelly Furtado spent the most time at #1 with 11 weeks between two songs – two of her absolute best for that matter. We even have a handful of bands getting to #1, not just Scissor Sisters but also Snow Patrol and Embrace!

Hard to believe those songs are fast approaching 20 years old!

2006 era BuzzJack was before I joined but most of these songs were hits in my chart too (Red Dress was #1 for 6 weeks in my chart cheeseblock )

Looking forward to following this!

5 years before I joined BuzzJack / started making personal charts at the moment.

My top 5 of the 2006 #1s:

  1. Shakira - Hips Don’t Lie (feat Wyclef Jean)

  2. Girls Aloud - Something Kinda Ooooh

  3. Scissor Sisters - I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’

  4. Nelly Furtado - Maneater

  5. Lily Allen - Smile

2006 stands out as a positive year for pop hits.

I think I am a fan of all the 2006 multichart number ones but what I am most suprised by is All Good Things being the longest runner AND Nature's Law being a number one

2007

17 Mika "Grace Kelly" (3 weeks)

18 Kelis "Lil Star" (2 weeks)

19 Nelly Furtado "Say It Right" (5 weeks)

20 Avril Lavigne "Girlfriend" (1 week)

21 Beyonce & Shakira "Beautiful Liar" (5 weeks)

22 Rihanna feat. Jay-Z "Umbrella" (7 weeks)

23 Avril Lavigne "When You're Gone" (1 week)

24 Fergie "Big Girls Don't Cry" (2 weeks)

25 Groove Armada feat. Mutya Buena "Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)" (1 week)

26 Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson "The Way I Are" (2 weeks)

27 Robyn feat. Kleerup "With Every Heartbeat" (2 weeks)

28 Girls Aloud "Sexy! No No No" (3 weeks)

29 Sugababes "About You Now" (6 weeks)

30 Britney Spears "Gimme More" (1 week)

31 Leona Lewis "Bleeding Love" (4 weeks)

32 Girls Aloud "Call The Shots" (5 weeks)

Most of the big names of 2007 had a turn at the top spot, from Rihanna to Leona and double Avril to double Girls Aloud. 'Umbrella' was the longest-running #1 of the year, much like the official chart but not quite as many weeks. Girls Aloud had the most #1 weeks of any artist, with eight. You'll notice 2007's list is more pop-heavy and female-dominated than 2006, a sign of what's to come in future years.

33 Britney Spears "Piece Of Me" (4 weeks)

34 Rihanna "Don't Stop The Music" (2 weeks)

35 Duffy "Mercy" (5 weeks)

36 Girls Aloud "Can't Speak French" (1 week)

37 Estelle feat. Kanye West "American Boy" (1 week)

38 Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake "4 Minutes" (6 weeks)

39 The Ting Tings "That's Not My Name" (1 week)

40 Duffy "Warwick Avenue" (5 weeks)

41 Madonna "Give It 2 Me" (2 weeks)

42 Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris & Chrom3 "Dance Wiv Me" (1 week)

43 The Ting Tings "Shut Up And Let Me Go" (2 weeks)

44 Katy Perry "I Kissed A Girl" (2 weeks)

45 Rihanna "Disturbia" (4 weeks)

46 P!nk "So What" (5 weeks)

47 Girls Aloud "The Promise" (3 weeks)

48 Britney Spears "Womanizer" (5 weeks)

49 Leona Lewis "Run" (3 weeks)

2008 saw a mix of Buzzjack faves - two #1s each for Britney, Rihanna, Madonna and Girls Aloud - and breakthrough acts, with Duffy, The Ting Tings, Katy Perry and more. Duffy had the most weeks at #1 with 10, thanks to 'Mercy' and 'Warwick Avenue' both having a 5-week reign. Madonna's '4 Minutes' had the longest run at the top with 6 weeks. Only one week with a male lead artist at #1, courtesy of Dizzee Rascal's 'Dance Wiv Me'!

My top 5 of the 2007 #1s:

  1. Girls Aloud - Sexy! No No No...

  2. MIKA - Grace Kelly

  3. Girls Aloud - Call The Shots

  4. Robyn - With Every Heartbeat (feat. Kleerup)

  5. Timbaland - The Way I Are (feat. Keri Hilson)

Tangled Up is my favourite girl group album of all-time so unsurprisingly dominates my votes here! I revisited it not too long ago with friends from here and it has held up so well, forgot how many genres they dipped their toes in, including D&B. Hopefully it'll finally be an addition to my vinyl collection in a couple of years for the 20th (drama) anniversary 💜

My top 5 of the 2008 #1s:

  1. The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name

  2. Girls Aloud - Can't Speak French

  3. Dizzee Rascal - Dance Wiv Me (feat. Calvin Harris & Chrom3)

  4. Britney Spears - Womanizer

  5. Madonna - 4 Minutes (feat. Justin Timberlake)

Not as strong as the 2007 list (had to cut out 'Say It Right' and that would be at least my 2nd favourite here!) but still some good stuff, 'Dance Wiv Me' a solid sole male choice lol.

50 Girls Aloud "The Loving Kind" (4 weeks)

51 Lily Allen "The Fear" (3 weeks)

52 Kelly Clarkson "My Life Would Suck Without You" (2 weeks)

53 Lady Gaga "Poker Face" (7 weeks)

54 Girls Aloud "Untouchable" (3 weeks)

55 Black Eyed Peas "Boom Boom Pow" (3 weeks)

56 Agnes "Release Me" (2 weeks)

57 David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland "When Love Takes Over" (2 weeks)

58 Lady Gaga "Paparazzi" (3 weeks)

59 Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" (2 weeks)

60 Little Boots "Remedy" (6 weeks)

61 Shakira "She Wolf" (2 weeks)

62 Madonna "Celebration" (1 week)

63 Cheryl Cole "Fight For This Love" (4 weeks)

64 Lady Gaga "Bad Romance" (10 weeks)

You may be surprised to see 'Just Dance' did not reach #1 on the Multichart, but 3 of Lady Gaga's next 4 singles do make it. 'Poker Face' matches the record of 7 weeks at #1, then 'Bad Romance' breaks the record and brings it all the way to 10 weeks! Cheryl Cole gets her first solo #1 away from Girls Aloud, and Little Boots has an impressive 6-week run at the top, even dethroning the juggernaut 'I Gotta Feeling'. Alexandra Burke also fails to reach #1 with 'Bad Boys', probably the second most-surprising omission from this list!

Red Dress is an amazing first #1! So many fantastic chart-toppers in the years posted so far, a testament to how strong pop music was in the 00s. All of the Girls Aloud impact cheeseblock

One thing I'm noticing is a much quicker turnover of #1s in these early years than the last couple of years in the multichart - I suppose that reflects the speed of the official chart at those times.

66 Marina & The Diamonds "Hollywood" (1 week)

67 Timbaland feat. Katy Perry "If We Ever Meet Again" (4 weeks)

68 Rihanna "Rude Boy" (1 week)

69 Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce "Telephone" (6 weeks)

70 Diana Vickers "Once" (2 weeks)

71 Alexandra Burke feat. Pitbull "All Night Long" (3 weeks)

72 Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg "California Gurls" (6 weeks)

73 Lady Gaga "Alejandro" (4 weeks)

74 Eminem feat. Rihanna "Love The Way You Lie" (2 weeks)

75 Katy Perry "Teenage Dream" (5 weeks)

76 The Saturdays "Higher" (4 weeks)

77 Rihanna "Only Girl (In The World)" (4 weeks)

78 Katy Perry "Firework" (2 weeks)

79 Nicole Scherzinger "Poison" (2 weeks)

Another year in which we tried to get as many female artists to #1 as possible? kink From Alexandra Burke to Katy Perry, Rihanna to Diana Vickers to The Saturdays, almost all the names you'd expect are here, and maybe some you didn't expect. Even Eminem has a Multichart #1 to his name now, although Pitbull and Snoop Dogg both got there first.

Longest-running #1 is a tie between 'Telephone' and 'California Gurls', whereas most weeks at #1 per artist is Katy Perry by far, with 17 weeks - that's 1/3 of the whole year!

80 Rihanna feat. Drake "What's My Name?" (5 weeks)

81 Britney Spears "Hold It Against Me" (4 weeks)

82 Lady Gaga "Born This Way" (1 week)

83 Adele "Someone Like You" (3 weeks)

84 Nicole Scherzinger "Don't Hold Your Breath" (1 week)

85 Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull "On The Floor" (6 weeks)

86 Lady Gaga "Judas" (1 week)

87 Lady Gaga "The Edge Of Glory" (6 weeks)

88 Katy Perry "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" (2 weeks)

89 Beyonce "Best Thing I Never Had" (4 weeks)

90 The Saturdays "All Fired Up" (6 weeks)

91 Nicole Scherzinger "Wet" (1 week)

92 Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera "Moves Like Jagger" (1 week)

93 Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris "We Found Love" (10 weeks)

94 Lady Gaga "Marry The Night" (1 week)

95 Little Mix "Cannonball" (3 weeks)

Somehow 2011 manages to be even more female-heavy than all the others, but it's no surprise when you remember who released the biggest albums that year. Lady Gaga dominated the most, with four #1s, leaving room for Adele, Britney, Katy Perry and The Saturdays to get just one apiece. We even let Maroon 5 sneak to #1 for a week, halfway through the Sats' 6-week reign, and a month before Rihanna would take over with 'We Found Love' for the next 10 weeks. In total Rihanna spent 15 weeks at #1 in 2011, even more than Lady Gaga who only reigned for 9 weeks, despite having twice as many #1s. And we liked Little Mix's 'Cannonball' enough to be #1 for 3 weeks, the first winner's single ever to top the Multichart!

Some early BJSC winners unsurprisingly here so far like 'I Kissed A Girl', 'Release Me', 'Hollywood' and 'Someone Like You'. Intrigued to see if 'Video Games' missed the top spot or had a slow burn run into 2012.

I started my own personal chart in 2011 (I used to post it on YouTube at first, didn't migrate it to BuzzJack until 2013 for some reason despite having an account here since 2011) and had several Born This Way chart-toppers much like the multi-chart. wub

Ooooh Buzzjack really went down the girl group black hole for many years! Good grief, it’s quite stark when you look at it year by year.

Anyway, congrats on the 1000 multicharts. Any idea when the 2 were skipped as mine is 2 ahead.

I'm not sure. You mentioned that during the 500th Multichart too, so it was at least 10 years ago!

96 Lana Del Rey "Born To Die" (1 week)

97 Jessie J "Domino" (1 week)

98 David Guetta feat. Sia "Titanium" (4 weeks)

99 Gotye feat. Kimbra "Somebody That I Used To Know" (2 weeks)

100 Nicki Minaj "Starships" (5 weeks)

101 Carly Rae Jepsen "Call Me Maybe" (2 weeks)

102 Marina & The Diamonds "Primadonna" (4 weeks)

103 Rihanna "Where Have You Been" (1 week)

104 Loreen "Euphoria" (3 weeks)

105 Cheryl "Call My Name" (3 weeks)

106 Katy Perry "Wide Awake" (1 week)

107 Florence + The Machine "Spectrum" (6 weeks)

108 Little Mix "Wings" (2 weeks)

109 Taylor Swift "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (3 weeks)

110 David Guetta feat. Sia "She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)" (1 week)

111 Rihanna "Diamonds" (3 weeks)

112 Girls Aloud "Something New" (8 weeks)

A close guess from Jade - 'Video Games' was not #1 here but 'Born To Die' was the first one of 2012! A lot of artists getting their first Multichart #1 in 2012, including Jessie J, Sia, Nicki Minaj, Carly, Florence, Taylor Swift, and more. Chart turnover was pretty high, with the longest-running #1 of the year happening at the very end: 8 weeks for 'Something New'. Only David Guetta, Sia, and Rihanna had multiple #1s, and none of them could match Girls Aloud's 8 weeks at the top.

Also, it takes almost exactly 6 years of Buzzjack's existence to reach our 100th Multichart #1, courtesy of 'Starships'.

Ooh okay! 'Born To Die' was Lana's first chart topper for me too (with 'Video Games' stalling at #2) so I was in sync with the forum there *.*

a great start to 2012 and I also wholeheartedly approve of the fortnight where 'Somebody That I Used To Know' was at #1 wub

suddenly had a flashback to the time when many 'Something New' related signatures decorated the forum, so no surprises that it had such a mammoth run!
