Miley was never Katy Perry big either tbf so I don’t think it’s surprising that her core fanbase isn’t as big. This is her first album in a long time without a hit and the general public don’t even know she has an album out.

For comparison, 'Endless Summer Vacation' started the Monday midweeks with 11,370 sales (6,259 physicals, 1,960 downloads, 3,151 streaming).

Miley's previous first week sales:

I feel like people are surprised at how low Miley's sales are in comparison to her star power each time she releases an album, but these first week sales do show they're pretty consistent. I must admit I thought she'd have started off better than 5k this time around though (even without a big hit attached to the album, a 50%+ drop is very significant).

Miley's album has kind of went (to the general person) unnoticed. My friends weren't aware of the album at all when I mentioned it at the weekend. She's always been popular but more on a casual kind of level but besides the Dead Petz era all of her projects have at least one hit attached to them so i'm hoping something from Something Beautiful takes off which in turn helps the album itself out. She should at least get another top 10, if not top 5 album here though I've just downloaded on iTunes to help her out! If she was chart savvy enough she'd hopefully restock the UK site but I honestly feel she doesn't care about chart success 😆

The label hopefully will see the UK chart update! The stores not updated for weeks now pretty much the day it was announced and you could pre-order the signed stuff went instantly and no more got added 😄.

Tbf dead pets was weird as wasn't it free for ages initially so was chart ineligible

Also not thats its a huge factor but the other albums had proper campaigns so not really had time to rack up preprders

Even with a few of them having number 1s her albums haven't exactly been huge sellers, Breakout is the only platinum one and younger now hasn't even gone silver yet, she probably done the right thing releasing on a quiet week get a higher chart position regardless

However it's wrapped up, there is no denying that the Miley album is a bit of an under performance, following the under performance of her singles.

I think she is an easy artist for the media to get stuck into so it feels like she is a bigger pop star than she maybe is.

At the same time, she's still #1 on the midweeks, so that's something (even if she is unlikely to stay there).

I'm still kind of annoyed at how they messed up Bangerz from the point the album was released by somehow stupidly choosing 'Adore You' as the next single and letting the era die after that :/

It had so much more potential.

I think like you touched on earlier, Miley's album eras have a tendency to end soon after the album is released and leaves so much untapped potential. 'Angels Like You' and 'Jaded' not getting proper pushes is a travesty.

There was sure signed stuff somewhere cos I remember reading about it.

The colours are nice but there's no picture disc / Zoetrope or alternative artwork, I don't know I just feel some of her releases could of benefitted from the modern way of merch bundles / alternative covers etc...

She did have signed items but they sold before the album was even announced on her socials and lasted a few minutes if that in the UK (Again just standalone signed vinyl and CD) so there couldn't of been more than 1k copies.

I feel like she's the type of artist that could easily sell a signed poster (Art Card) bundle with a CD/Cassette or Vinyl bundled with the CD / Alternative cover CD etc..

There was also no pre-sale code for a tour (I know she's unsure on touring at the moment and doesn't seem to want to) but if she had a rollout like most pop acts I genuinely think her sales would be at least double.

Thought Miley was doing well, I might be missing something here but it isn't as if there was much fanfare for her new album. I weren't aware she was releasing an album this week.

I don't know, I'd say Miley and Katy are at a very similar level of popularity/fame? The Bangerz era was absolutely huge AND Miley is coming off the back off an 18k first week sales figure, whereas Katy's was a follow up from Smile, which sold 8.5k in its first week.

I just don't imagine Miley will get the same headlines as Katy because she's much more well liked and not a media punching bag anymore.

Katy’s peak was much bigger and lasted longer than Miley’s. Prism and Teenage Dream both debuted with ~54k, Miley’s absolute highest was Bangerz with 30k. Teenage Dream is 6x platinum and Miley’s best selling is only platinum. Miley’s career has had more peaks and valleys than Katy’s but I’d say Katy’s music is definitely more known overall.

Numbers are ridiculously low for a huge name but there has been very little interest. End of the world was really good and it didn’t go anywhere so I guess that was a sign it wasn’t going to sell much

I love End of the World but I think she killed any momentum she might’ve had by releasing Something Beautiful first.
