This is a pretty weak comeback - "most other people" appears to be two or three other posters. I don't understand comparing artists' sales to anything other than their previous work, and any general

  • That moment when having more realistic expectations makes you the one who is 'miles out of touch'

  • We stan the implication that Lorde is a big enough artist for a 13k Monday midweek figure to be disappointing.

Official Charts Report

Lewis Capaldi is heading for a sixth Number 1 single with emotional comeback track Survive. It’s currently leading by just over 3000 chart units after 48 hours of release.

Its release was bolstered by a surprise set on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage on Friday which captured the attention of the nation, and could also send Lewis' first Number 1 Someone You Loved back into the chart this week (44).

Meanwhile, MK’s Dior ft. Crystal holds firm midweek at Number 2, while Ed Sheeran’s Sapphire (5) is tracking to earn a new peak this week, up seven places on the First Look.

The Giver by Chappell Roan (6) could ride back into the Top 10 this Friday, having previously peaked at Number 2 on its release in March. We could also see a rebound for Tate McRae’s Just Keep Watching, which is up two to Number 18.

Just outside the First Look Top 20, more Glastonbury performers are visibly on the ascent including Lorde who performed an early secret set on Friday on the Woodsies Stage, which - combined with the release of her new album Virgin - sends her single What Was That rocketing 29 places to Number 27.

Also climbing fast is Luton singer-songwriter Myles Smith with Gold, up 26 places midweek to Number 33, while Pinkpantheress’s Illegal lifts six to Number 30. Plus Irish singer and musician CMAT, a hit on the Pyramid Stage on Friday, leaps 14 places to Number 43 with Take A Sexy Picture Of Me.

Glastonbury’s full impact on the Official Chart is likely to become more apparent as the week goes on.

The Official Chart: First Look offers a first glance of the Top 20 ahead of Friday’s Official Singles Chart Top 100. The chart is based on preliminary sales and early streaming reports.

Albums

  1. Lorde

Expecting the Rod Stewart ‘Ultimate Hits’ to do really well this week with the various formats and signed bundles.

However, there seems to be a problem with the CDs and they’ve sent an email saying their Will be a delay to shipping which will obviously seriously dent its first week sales if not resolved.

Last time Lorde - Solar Power peaked at #2 with 12K sales... I remember I thought she had a chance at #1 cos it was mid-summer, no other big releases, but then Olivia Rodrigo released some vinyl version of her album and stole the #1 from Lorde :/ yes, very Taylor-esque :D :D :D :D

Who else is releasing? I’m sure Lorde will do 20k minimum. She’s been in the UK a lot and is steaming solid numbers

I'm sure I remember being surprised 'Solar Power' was as high as #2 (with it not having a CD release + generally feeling like there was not that much interest in the era). It feels pretty anomalous that it's her highest charting album considering it's almost universally considered her worst. The reception to 'Virgin' seems to be a fair bit better.

Didn't 'Solar Power' have that whole "there's no CD in the CD case" thing? It was a really bizarre roll out iirc. But just in general there's way more hype surrounding this album. It should clear 'Solar Power' sales quite comfortably I'd imagine. The position just depends on who else has released this week because it feels like there's always a random re-issue or some dad indie/rock band that has 30k pre-orders or something lol

EDIT: Oh and ofc the Glasto effect which tends to benefit albums a lot of the time!

think she was more of a vinyl seller anyway, hipsters don't buy Cds :D

she did release a CD for Solar Power but had no CD inside :D just a download link :D

I was thinking there's surely no way it isn't at least the highest new entry but Triangle putting it into the air that it might be outsold by a random Rod Stewart greatest hits is giving me fear

(and I guess there's some chance something or other from Glastonbury might contend? not sure though (and ofc she herself was at Glastonbury))

Lewis has the number 1 in the bag! 99p singles and a decent streaming debut.

Im gonna wait till day 3 before I put me eggs in the basket when it comes the streaming, and can he still shift a load of cds without them being signed , we seen Ed cant anymore

I think he'll sell a decent number because he's getting so much coverage after his Glasto return. I also think he'll get a good chunk in iTunes downloads to make up the difference.

^But bare in mind the release of the physicals is July 11, not this week. Of course that's on paper. They can always change it.

Just checked and 1 out of the 3 CDs is already sold out so either good sales or very few on sale.

Also checked on albums, and there is some competition for Lorde. There is a Rod Stewart-Ultimate Greatest Hits out on CD and vinyl

also some Lost Tracks from Bruce Springsteen release. It's out as a 9 vinyl/7CD package for the die-hard fans

but there's also a 2-vinyl/2-CD version for the GP

Ahhh yeah I totally forgot about that release date! I'm still pretty confident he'll get it with everything combined (iTunes, The video is out etc...) I guess it just depends if his streams crash and burn.
